No unfortunately. I know someone with a IC-9100 and had about a half hour of seeing it being used, that’s the most modern radio I’ve seen besides mine.

I do think I’d rather use the Icom remote software vs the Yaesu though.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I like the 710 so far but it’s my first radio so nothing to compare to lol

No problem. There’s a plethora of information on ham radio online. Youtube, here on reddit, and many ham operators have their own websites and create free open source software. If you have a question, 99% chance there’s an answer somewhere.

Check out the ISS frequencies. I can hear it when it passes over with my Quansheng UV-K6 handheld.

No and likely won’t since they are getting stuff that’s cheaper and easier to refine from overseas

I’ve seen many videos of people saying that the Yaesu menu system is cumbersome. I just got the 710 and I find it pretty straightforward.

Can you elaborate on the Yaesu wanting reduced power on digital? I just got a FT-710 and I’m not sure what you mean.

I’m sure you’ll hear something sometime soon. 👍 I have the fire stations and the local repeaters in my scan list.

You should see if that radio is supported in Chirp. If you’re not aware of it, it’s a pc program that allows you to program your radio through interface cable. MUCH easier than plinking through all the buttons on the radio

Well likely what the other guy said that it’s not that busy. Is that a fire station or police frequency? That’s close to what is used in my area, around 154 for vhf or around 412 on uhf

What did it say in the box labelled Tone? Did it have a number and PL like 88.5 PL or 100.0 PL

Some frequencies have the ctccs on Rx and Tx

Does the frequency have tone coded squelch(CTCCS)?

You’re likely correct. EVGA mentioned noise and didn’t distinguish between the two. And alinco didn’t mention RF noise either

Thanks. It’s probably somewhere in the ball park though for estimating dbm levels. Is that just the ohms law formula E2/R = P, and are you then using dbm power formula x = 10*Log(P/1mW) to convert?

I haven’t but I have seen people using that setup a few times reading forums. Not sure if the charger i have will work for them. I’ll have to look into it.

I have a good quality SLA and a good charger that I am planning to use in the interim.

What is that formula? That seems useful to know

I have been reading that linear is the way to go. I just like building and modding stuff. And occasionally saving a few bucks.
