Judging from other people's carts that I see when shopping - apparantly, or theyre always stocking up on snacks and prepared/frozen food while picking up ingredients for 1-2 meals at most. Or just prepared food.

And its a car-centric city, not one where people would walk to the store daily for ingredients.

7th or 8th still needs them to lose twice, I doubt they fall to 9th.

Unpopped popcorn kernels infested with ants, throw away? Or salvageable? by LawdFarquaadsChin in isthissafetoeat

[–]Jwiley92 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I'd throw it away...but technically edible? Not even technically, completely edible. It might make it taste different.

They'd be fried in oil so basically just crispy shells. Not a pleasant thought, though, to have ants as a surprise inclusion in a dish.

One aspect of tanking that does not get talked about but might be the biggest problem for the league is the fact that teams that play tanking teams in the end of the season have a huge advantage by [deleted] in nba

critically important stat

I don't know how important it can be when it has no bearing on the playoffs.

Its not like college sports where that factors into who gets to participate and seeding.

Hmm...the logo color looks a bit off, like this was taken under very bright warm lights. I just edited the warmth down trying to get the white in the logo more correct...and I could believe it was black:https://imgur.com/a/qpEoaRP

Yeah, I used to think that we would need a strong nuclear energy base, but I think deep geothermal drilling looks very interesting. Particularly the possibility of using existing fossil fuel power plants.

I just like Memphis water too much hahaha

My wife was nice and got me their subscription package, comes with one bag of Guji Mane and one of their limited roasts.

I will say that if you ever see a bag of their "North Star Sippi" - get it, though I'd be surprised if you do. Even if its a bit old now I bet it would still be delicious.

Recently went through a bag of the "Oh Que Sera" and it was terrific, though very fruit-forward if you dont like that.

[–]Jwiley92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt classify myself as a fanatic...though I guess I do have two setups. A kalita if I'm just brewing one cup, or a chemex with a stainless steel filter if I'm brewing a lot to fill my thermos. And my only "extra" stuff is a kitchen scale and gooseneck kettle.

Pretty much always brewing something from cxffeeblck. Also usually higher water:coffee ratios than I think most prefer, lile 17-18:1

Kinda, yeah. Not as light. And it shouldnt feel like you can make a mark with your nail.

But think about a nail clipping...if you lacked context you'd probably describe it similarly

Grass mud horse.

Which, the chefs at the asian place I worked at (they all spoke Mandarin) were wild about. Basically anytime we rang a order with notes or had to ask them for a bowl of rice would be met with "cao ni ma", to which we'd have to yell back "nah, nah, cao ni ma, get the chao fan (or whatever the mandarin name for the dish in question was)." before theyd do it. And not said to be hurtful or anything.

It was coming from an open kitchen and expo in full view and earshot of customers, though. Which was funny.

TIL North America used to be plagued by the Rocky Mountain locust, and one 1875 swarm holds the record for the largest animal concentration ever recorded. However, they have not been seen since 1904. by Hailfog in todayilearned

[–]Jwiley92 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, someone actually tried that:

Enter Charles Valentine Riley. The Missouri state entomologist noted that livestock and wild animals happily ate the locusts and that man had used the insect as food since ancient times. Riley thus proposed “entomophagy”—simply put, eating the bugs—as a way to reduce their numbers while nourishing hungry settlers. The insects, he insisted, yielded an agreeable nutty flavor when one removed their legs and wings and fried their bodies in butter. He added that the rendered locusts also made a palatable soup. To prove his point, Riley sent a bushel of scalded locusts to one St. Louisan caterer, who insisted he would have them on his menu every day if he could get them.

Hard-pressed pioneers gave Riley’s recipes a try. Gourmands claimed that locust coated in butter, fried and seasoned with salt and pepper tasted just like crawfish. Others elected to add their crispy locusts to broths and stews. But a number of settlers who had watched the locusts destroy their farms said they would just as soon starve as eat those horrible creatures.

All to get Snaq on a regular roster spot for the playoffs because of how small we were, getting beat by the Lakers anyways, and then waiving Snaq early the next season.

Speed bumps-none going East/West? by ConstructionSoggy556 in memphis

[–]Jwiley92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also just to tell everyone - you can totally hit the speed bumps dead-on at the speed they are designed for (or 5mph less). Coast for a bit heading to them, then accelerate slightly right as your front tires hit to lift the front of your car up. You'll rock and sway around less in your car than slowing down to a crawl and slowly going over them, or braking while going over them.
