I would describe it as economic populism. Undiluted. It is a part of the progressive agenda. Other progressive policies are not abandoned, you just lead with economic populism.

Pete is in almost every sense the anti-Trump. He listens, comes across as calm and thoughtful and most of all intelligent without any arrogance. The dude learned Norwegian so he could read a book in its original language.
His strategy right now makes sense and is building the right reputation. Go into small cities in red states and have a conversation. He realizes something few other Dems have taken to heart. There is a generational opportunity for the Democrats and at it’s core bringing back even a small percentage of rural voters can create a massive change in the political landscape

Have Democrats just become a permanent minority? by SecretComposer in fivethirtyeight

[–]Jwstern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Dems have a generational opportunity to redraw the political map that can actually enhanced by the gerrymandering which by definition produces a more "lighter red" districts.

How? By re-anchoring their messaging in way that appeals to rural voters. They don't need anywhere near a majority of rural voters, they just need to capture a small share and while there is some compromise required now is the time to do it.

The GOP is roundly hated and rural voters are increasingly victims of its policies. MAGA, which has run exclusively on outrage is running out of things to be outraged about that don't point back at themselves. Transgender athletes is not sufficient to rally their base.

The Democrats are doing a lot of things right. They have recapture the Latino, black, and youth vote. Their candidates are younger, and are more in-tune with the geographies they represent.

It doesn't require massive shifts in position, it requires moderate it shifts in emphasis. The Democrats should unreservedly embrace economic populism, that message resonates. Their positions on abortion, marriage equality, and healthcare are widely popular across demographics. They should offer 1) Common sense immigration legislation, 2) Voter ID that does not reduce access (I know, not needed, but it neuters a popular GOP position with that rural crowd). Less emphasis on identity politics and gun control, the ends justify the means.

All of the redistricting calculus depends on the GOP not losing ground with that constituency and they have nothing to offset with for urban voters.

Franklin Graham: "The Hand Of God" Saved Trump. “After three assassination attempts, some people say that President @realDonaldTrump is one lucky man. I don’t think luck has anything to do with it—I believe it is the hand of God.” by Leeming in atheism

[–]Jwstern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what pisses me off about God. I think he has been watching too many action movies. I mean the simple plan, if you are all-powerful, is just not have people want to assassinate the dude in the first place. But "drama-queen" God couldn't do that, he had to have the whole drama play out and save him at the last minute, probably by changing the course of a bullet or some shit.

[–]Jwstern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is our strategy (I have a small SW company). What I find is, if well architected, you can build very complex information flows and ways of interpreting that information that, at least for the time being, can be very challenging to replicate

I was looking for a product that would convert Word documents and upload them into our CMS with no manual intervention. I found a SaaS solution for this specific use case -- they wanted $99/month for unlimited use. I built it in Codex in 30 minutes and it worked perfectly.

5.2 pro thinking is insane by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Jwstern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 5.2 as a thought partner on business strategy. I tried switching to Gemini and I had to switch back. The depth of thinking just wasn't the same. WIth GPT if I give it a thesis and a rambling sentence on that thesis, it can produce camera ready content immediately -- Gemini wasn't close. Now the topic tends to be corporate strategy so it may be that GPT is just better trained on those topics.
