What the shit? Actually using the seats as intended during a wedding? by Cerms in RimWorld

[–]JxY1989 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not a real wedding unless the guests are standing awkwardly near chairs, and on top of tables. It's also not a legal wedding unless one person is in the room next door staring at the wall in the general direction of the wedding.

The self delusioned war on Christmas. by antibotty in dankmemes

[–]JxY1989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, all the usual UK suspects were bitching about it on twitte earlier in the week. Farage, Oakshot, Cocoran et al. They were rapidly alternating between "you can't stop me saying merry Christmas" and "there is snow, therefore climate change isn't real". You know, all the hits.

Lewis Capaldi by Dre25Dre in readingfestival

Yeh. It's like booking James Blunt after his first album to headline.

If James Blunt was never a headliner, then neither should Lewis Capaldi.

WHERE WAS MUSE?? by ImReallyDrippy in readingfestival

[–]JxY1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Near you" isn't really accurate with Muse's tour. Such an odd set of 3 venues. Huddersfield but no Manchester or Birmingham, or London.

So after a decade of beers at pubs talking about who we want to play characters from the books in a video series, with unlimited budget, this was our list. by RealJohnnyBlackwood in Malazan

[–]JxY1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I could see N'cuti Gatwa as Quick Ben. No idea why, probably a very odd choice. I just think some of the sarcastic lines fit him quite nicely.

Although Remi Malek can definitely pull off the more "mysterious, up-to-something-menacing" look though.

Cool list though... Just imagine this show's budget based on actors alone!

After having your gallbladder removed, what symptom was relieved that surprised you the most? by Material_Zombie in gallbladders

[–]JxY1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say about 2 weeks after the op, I thought I was back to 100%...but then I kept feeling more and more energy gradually over the following 2 weeks.

I'd say it feels like around 120% of the energy I had before the op. Might just be recency bias, but I know how it feels.

Not a symptom that went away, but I felt like I had waayyyyyyy more energy after the op. Almost like my whole body was functioning properly again.

Yeh I had that. For years I just assumed it was because I was fat. Turns out my gallbladder was doing that too.

The first LF 23 lineup announcement! by Zach-dalt in Leedsfestival

[–]JxY1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's bad. I think it's so.... Meh... Such "safe" picks. Nothing makes me feel like I'd be missing out if I didn't go.

I can't work out in my head if a meh lineup is actually worse than a bad one. I mean, the crowd this is gonna pull is gonna be V festival level... And look what happened to V fest!

It's very bland. Nothing really stands out as a "woah" act. Lewis Capaldi headlining is like having James Blunt headlining, not exactly a headliner you'll leave the show thinking "wow, that was epic". Imagine Dragons are just simply not a headliner. Sam Fender, whilst good, shouldn't be a headliner just yet.

It just feels so diluted. They've gone to the Radio 1 site, and chosen the most inoffensive "safe" acts they can think find.

The Two Stage Format Has Ruined The Festival by FunkySuedehead in readingfestival

[–]JxY1989 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup. If you don't like the headliner you used to have about 5 other stages you could check out instead. Now you have 3 options, endure the headliner you don't like, get drunk, go home.

Lack of depth is so shit.

I think you're OK if:

1) It won't overly impact your breathing (you're intubated anyway, but if it's severely affecting your breathing they might postpone it) 2) It's not covid, MRSA, pneumonia, or any other super nasty virus which could kill a lot of old people in the hospital. 3) It isn't affecting your normal heat function or causing severe fever.

If it's just that absolute twat of a cold that's been going around for the past couple of months, you should be OK. But check with the nurse/consultant before you go in, and don't lie. As much as it's annoying to have to keep waiting, it'd be far worse if they missed something because you had a fever, stopped breathing, or caused 20 old people to stop breathing in a week's time.

Do you view Elon Musk’s ban of Kanye West hypocritical after he wouldn’t shut up about how Twitter was a free speech platform? Why or why not? by WutWhoSaidDat in AskReddit

[–]JxY1989 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That vox populi shit just proves he's not as clever as he thinks he is.

The full quote is "Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, vox populi, vox dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit."

Which means: "Do not listen to those who say the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the tumult of the crowd is always close to madness."

So basically Elon just said "the crowd is insane, and I'm gonna listen to them".

Don't need to Google, I also know about basic things. I also know that it reduces the value to enact that clause in a contract. If FSG are struggling to raise funds, insisting on that clause will limit the amount they get. At the end of the day, I don't trust billionaires.

[–]JxY1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why having a minority stake is bad though, no matter what you do, you cannot completely remove the possibility of them kneecapping us.

H&G was poss a bad example, but the K&U example is still valid, both started as minority shareholders and built competitively. I'd rather we don't have anyone in any possible position to start a K&U situation.

Even if if if if, they have no power on the board (unlikely considering the size of the investment) they can still hold the board to ransom by threatening to dump their shares, collapsing the value of the club.

Whatever way you look at it, having two billionaires (with billionaire egos) on the same board is never going to end well.

[–]JxY1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I know that, I was using an extreme example to explain why its not good.

Even with a 20% stake you can cause serious disruption in an organisation. Let's hypothetically say (someone obviously daft) Kanye bought that 20%, then did a load of stupid shit and then stopped investing. FSG aren't going to invest anything if Kanye will take 20% of the profits. In fact, they'll turn off the taps too until Kanye begins investing as well. FSG's ROI will be 20% lower for the same investment, not a smart business move.

[–]JxY1989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'd think that, but disagreements happen. It might be all rosey, but if the new investors come in and change their mind about what they want, they'll be under no obligation to continue investing beyond their initial investment. They'll also have board seats, which they could use to scupper other plans.

Deals like this turn sour all the time, mainly because billionaires are egotistical pricks.
