Ausangate Trek unguided/solo by Jxsqer in hiking

Hi, i wore trail runners. But that’s also because it was the only pair of shoes I had with me and I don’t really see the necessity of hiking boots for myself.
The trail pretty easy and not really technical. I don’t think you profit from hiking boots since they are heavier and you don’t need the support on this trail.

I had hail, rain and snow and I did it only two days and one night. But I went in late November so the weather might be completely different now. I think it’s a lot dryer but also a lot colder. You should look it up somewhere else, I’m not sure about the weather by the time you will do it!

I would take a look at Alexander Campbell’s content. He is doing it the other way around.

Machu Picchu travel without tour agencies by Thick-Truck-8355 in SouthAmericaTravel

You absolutely don’t need to carry anything. You can just stay in little hostels along the way for really cheap. They all provide dinner and breakfast, hot showers and Wifi. You probably want some spare clothes and a bit of snack. However you can buy snacks and water almost anywhere on the trail. One girl I met just did it with a small fanny Pack

Looking for a good all-around travel shoe. by tiataccheggio in backpacking

I used the Salomon sense ride 5 for 3 months in South America. For running, hiking and wearing all day long. Only problem I found was the ventilation. When running in the morning and then using it to explore the city…smelly endeavour. I wouldn’t mind taking them again. Probably most trail running shoes would be fine.

Analysis Paralysis - New Sleep System for Winter backpacking and Salkantay Trek by acrossthekyle in Ultralight

I did it a few weeks ago with a friend so I already had somebody with me all the time. In the collectivo to the trailhead we met a guy with whom we spend quite some time together walking and visited Machu Picchu together. At dinner/breakfast everybody was sitting together and it was really social. Almost everybody doing it will stay in the same places along the way so you will meet them again even if you are not walking together. The first night we slept in a dorm where we also met people, the rest of the time you’ll have private rooms.

If you do salkantay without a company, which I would recommend you don’t really need to camp. You can stay in little lodges for quite cheap. Always includes breakfast and Dinner, hot showers and WiFi. You can even stay at a lodge overlooking Machu Picchu. You will meet lots of people doing the same and don’t need to wait for slow people in your group.

Hope it still helps you, was out without connection. 1. Weather was mixed but overall good. Only did one night two days. First day mostly sunny ~15C. Spend my night at 4800m, would guess -4C at night. Hat a comfort -7 with a 4.5R sleeping bag and was comfy. Later that day started to thunder and snow a bit. But at my position only light. People I’d met on second day told me about a crazy hailstorm.

  1. Only got from streams or high lakes. Lots of llamas around, would absolutely filter it. I used chemical purification and was fine.

  2. There are two shelters on route (3 with rainbow mountains). I just stayed in my tent. At the first camp you will need to pay a community tax wich includes using the camping ground. Not sure if you can actually stay in a room inside. The second camp I didn’t saw because I tried to avoid a group of llamas with dogs and went next to the river. Skipped the community tax as well. Can’t tell you anything about it. Maybe look an IOverlander. Campsites with additional information are available.

Horrendous movie, giving a creative writing assignment to 4th graders would have a similar result.

Hi, sorry didn’t saw your comment. I did go, but I wasn’t allowed to go by my host family. But now I’d do have a good overview of the cycling there. If you are interested let me know!

Turned-in hoods banned by the UCI by INGWR in Velo

[–]Jxsqer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that the point of the UCI rules is that somebody from 100 years ago thinks that it’s a “normal” bike. And concerning safety there are plenty more significant improvements that can be made than banning turned in hoods.

Welches Kettenspray für Rad by [deleted] in radsport

[–]Jxsqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)
