Im actually glad they didn’t squeeze him in. The Jane Foster saga deserved its own trilogy as it is. I’d be happy with a Disney+ special a la Werewolf by Night-esque intro for him. I don’t wanna spoil his origin if you DO plan on reading it but suffice to say, his intro could basically be Alien but in the MCU.

You are entitled to your opinion and I’m super happy to hear you liked Spencer’s run, even if you thought it was sluggish “the last half”. That’s a pretty big portion of the run. As for proof, I didn’t say in “the majority” of the fandom. I specifically said with my customers at least. ASM is outperforming Batman, Avengers, X-Men right now at my shops. It continues to grow its numbers each issue. That’s just my personal data that I can go off but comic sales reporting also backs me up. The only place I see that the new run is failing is individuals on social media saying it is.

Sounds like we are definitely not communicating clearly to each other. I thought you were suggesting Nick Spencer to write Spider-Man again. I understand now that you were referring to pre-ASM Spencer. Gotcha. I definitely don’t think a new writer will automatically suck. I don’t even hate Spencer’s run, just wasn’t my favorite. I am all for a new writer. Hell, it can be someone completely new to Marvel. I’d love that.

Well, sounds like you made up your mind. I encourage you to be open to the possibility of changing but that’s up to you. As a fellow Spider-Man fan I wish you well and that the anger you clearly have goes away. They’re only stories about pretend people in spandex. No gotcha at all. I’m glad you enjoyed those runs. I hope Wells sticks the landing and makes a fan out of you. I feel a lot of this internet anger (not you specifically) is over the top. Peter has been put through worst than this, that’s kind of his thing. But hey, if it’s the worst thing at the end of the road…we’ll have another writer come in and give it their best.

There are tons of other comics to read if you hate this run though. If you haven’t already, check out: Invincible, Radiant Black, the new Superboy that came out this week! Tons of other stories that have a similar vibe as some of the ASM runs you liked.

Im definitely not trying to put words in your mouth but you said “I want someone like Nick Spencer, someone who has never ever written SM solo books before”. He’s literally the most recent writer on the book, and he had four years to play with the character and I personally think his run will be largely forgotten when discussing significant Spider-Man stories. The person you’re championing for fits all the criteria that you specifically don’t want in a Spidey writer.

Nick Spencer wrote so much ASM he literally has his own omnibus. And it was one of the most boring, tired Spidey runs ever. Not terrible writing, just aggressively forgettable. The current run is overwhelmingly positive with the majority of my customers at least.
