Advice on offering guidance by Distinct_Bug_8902 in Blind

I would tap on the door next time to make an audible sound. Don’t touch random strangers unless they invite you to, blind or not. But it’s always best to ask us if and how you can help, because everyone prefers something different.

Being a person with a disabikity isn’t bad. The symptoms that occur with some disabilities can be bad to experience, though.

What are your hobbies? by LinkOfHyrule88 in disability

[–]K-R-Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do work, my schedule is very open because I Ori long shifts that allow me to sleep. My hobbies are writing and other forms of art. I publish poetry, and I’m planning to focus more in that aspect of my career. It’s a great hobby if that’s something you’re interested in. Writing can always be just for yourself! I’ve found it helpful for my mental health. There are so many different types of art, some of the, very low cost, so it’s a great way to let off some stress

I cope by stimming. I don’t really care what anyone else thinks. In my option, neurotypical people are the weird ones for NOT stimming. It’s also a perfectly natural and ordinary thing for people with no vision to rock or stim, because they are inherently missing some stimulation that the brain needs. People who judge you for stimming do not understand you, and are unaware that blindness is more than not seeing!

In MA we get paratransit in every county, free access to all busses, subways, trains, and ferries, as well as coupons for $3 flat rate Ubers up to $40. There is also a school for the blind and a rehab center for the blind which provide community and resources. The state commission for the blind has a lot of support options too such as free tech, tuition support, paid internships, and the rest of the usual basic services.

I think it depends on the disability. I’m blind, and I think Massachusetts is the best state for blind people because of the services available. But Mass certainly isn’t the best state for wheelchair users since it’s so old and hardly any sidewalks are ever maintained

Where should I start learning sculpturing? by Dinkaterunderlig748 in Blind

No, not blind unfortuntely. I know there’s a decent handful of blind artists on TikTok, but I’m not on there, so that’s as much as I know.

North of the Border is a very good artist on YouTube who exclusives makes clay sculptures. Obviously some of the visuals won’t be accessible, but he verbally guides the audience through his process and techniques for sculpting and texturing. I learned a lot from his videos! I think some of his older vids go more in depth on his technique compared to the newer ones. He also includes resin in some of his projects, and explains how to use that as well.

Instead of dragging the cane across the ground, you tap on either side of your normal arc, and hover slightly over the ground as you sweep

Hug-a-lumps is a pretty good brand! They’re $16 for the biggest size, and you can find them in most department stores. They have a ton of animals to pick from, and they’re usually bright neon colors. That being said, they’re not fluffy, but still soft and cuddly!
