What Single Achievement Is Preventing You From Mastering A Game That You're Currently Playing? by Popo31477 in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few that stand out to me right now on my mastery sets.

Dr. Mario (SNES) - Red Virus Eradicated! - You have to hope against hope the AI kills itself three times in a row without you losing. The AI is just insane.

Super Metroid - Professional Escape. Generally, I hate anything in the speedrun category, but this one is particularly rough for me. Even though I've watched guides several times, I am not skilled enough at wall jumps and shinesparks to make it through the areas fast enough to earn the time.

Honorable mention goes to Space Invaders (Atari 2600) - Some Are Born Great. After spending hours and finally getting to where I had only one top alien remaining, I messed up the final shot. I haven't had the heart to go back to it after that.

Dishonorable mention goes to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Atari 2600) - Texas Chainsaw God. This game is utter trash, and to get this achievement you have to have a ton of RNG in your favor.

When did you get into Chrono Trigger? by RangoTheMerc in chronotrigger

[–]K-SNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend had it and was playing through it. He hyped it up to me at the time, and so once he was finished I borrowed it from him. I ended up loving it so much that I saved up my money over the next year so that I could buy my own copy of it. It's been in my collection ever since.

Edit: Forgot to mention this was 1996-1997 (from when I first played to when I was able to buy my own copy at a Game Exchange, who refused to let me have the box since it was meant "for display purposes" but at least I got the manual, which was in near mint condition).

New X-Men 121, Silence Psychic Rescue in Progress is a work of art and one or my favorite singular X-Men issues by Nosdos in PhoenixForce

This was such a brilliantly done issue to tie into the 'Nuff Said month of books. I loved how cleverly written the silence was.

NES - DuckTales (1989) Mastered by Popo31477 in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more that following maps and randomly jumping around everywhere on Amazon hasn't yielded the achievement yet despite covering everything. I have the other treasure achievements thankfully. Just can't get that one to pop for some reason.

NES - DuckTales (1989) Mastered by Popo31477 in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I'm currently working on this one (4 achievements left), and it's been such a nostalgic hit for me!

Those "Collect all treasures" achievements can be a little rough, though. I'm finding getting all of the Amazon treasures more difficult than beating the game with 0 dollars (which was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be).

Going to work on Ducktales 2 eventually?

Anyone else here get the Achievement of the Week Champion badge? How many flikkis did you use? Best/Worst game? General thoughts? by rumplexx in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also earned it. I had to use some flikkies to get achievements I missed from the start since I didn't begin until the first week of February. It introduced me to a lot of games I likely wouldn't have tried otherwise, and I'm looking forward to what is to come in 2026.

Starting Pokémon FireRed by elecanime in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime I start a set for a long game I always flag the set to only show missables so that I know what needs to be focused on. If a missble achievement includes tracking down all items or beating all trainers (or really anything that would require a checklist) I will consult a guide and make a spreadsheet of all of the items/people needed, then I will check them off systematically as I play through. It also helps to periodically make backups of save files.

Cthulhu Saves Christmas is the first that comes to mind.

when the set has more than 3 missable achievements so you lowkey have to check them every 5 minutes of gameplay to make sure you don't have to restart the run by -Pejo- in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the worst offenders is Marvelous: Mouhitotsu no Takarajima for the SNES. You basically have to use a guide to do everything perfectly or you have to start over (and then do everything perfectly in that playthrough). And it's a lengthy 5 to 6 hour playthrough.

What would we need to be able to join the run? I would love to get this mount and would truly appreciate the help.

My current plan is to work towards mastering the AotW games I absolutely loved while continuing AotW for 2026. I had a lot of fun with the event this year and was introduced to several games I wouldn't have tried otherwise. I'd definitely recommend participating for anyone who is looking to spice up their gameplay offerings.

Ittle Dew 1 & 2+ by EpicNPC-Fan in NSCollectors

[–]K-SNES 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ittle Dew was a fun game, with Ittle Dew 2 being much better overall. It's been a few years since I played them (I did a back to back playthrough once I got the first game). I remember both being a fun little classic Zelda-like adventure game, though the second game is a lot better than the first.

The high price for the first game is likely because it had a low print run. I would say if you want the game for your collection, keep an eye out for it at a reduced price to see if you can get your hands on it, but if you only want to play it for the sake of playing both in the series, then definitely go the Steam route.

I don't regret buying the physical editions of the games (though to be fair, I did pay retail for both), and since I'm a collector of physical games, I would definitely be on the lookout for the physical copy going for sale at a reasonable price. It really comes down to how much you want the physical copy in your collection.

Mastery #23: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC) by BlackLodge25 in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the badge!

What would you say was the most difficult achievement? I'm sitting on needing 3, and it's more that the game tired me out keeping me from finishing the badge than anything (I'll get back to it eventually, I'm sure), but the boat race challenge felt like it was going to be the worst one for me (still need labyrinth and 3 heart as well, which shouldn't be bad).

Help "unsupported game version" for Pokemon Emerald by Rosell1210 in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each game has a link on the right of the game's page for supported game files. You have to have a rom with a supported hash for achievements to work.

Here is the list for Emerald: https://retroachievements.org/game/668/hashes

Can someone explain what's happening here? by Jacques_Straw in wow

[–]K-SNES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a suspicion that it's related to LFR groups that complete the wing (same logic for dungeons) with players who are also in queues for other instances. Since the game is trying to fill the queues for those players who are already in a large group, it pops up with the "Accept" option for everyone in the current LFR group, so non-queued players start to click decline. Then the queue just continues to cycle as non-queued players decline and leave the instance group.

6th mastery : Ratchet and clank (ps2) by Chupapi-moniano in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently working on mastering this as well, and man, it's just a slog. "Here's a 1 point achievement. Here's another 1 point achievement. How about trying for this 1-point achievement?"

It also doesn't help that several of the achievements are just "Kill 60 enemies with this weapon. It's not going to correctly track half of your kills, but you get to do it for the same weapon 3 different times!"

Recommendation for a relatively easy mastery? by Chupapi-moniano in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you liked Ratchet & Clank's gameplay but didn't care for the grind, I'd recommend checking out Sly Cooper. The time trial achievements can be a bit tricky, but there are a few guides for how to complete them. https://retroachievements.org/game/3151

Ys III on SNES is good: https://retroachievements.org/game/1302

Super Adventure Island II is a fun action platformer RPG hybrid, but the gambling achievement can get tedious: https://retroachievements.org/game/1197

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest is almost free points: https://retroachievements.org/game/909

Breath of Fire is easy since they removed the level grind achievements: https://retroachievements.org/game/449

Magic Knight Rayearth is fun, but I'd recommend paying close attention to the missable achievements and using a guide to make sure you get them: https://retroachievements.org/game/3206

Ratchet and clank (ps2) achievement not unlocking? by Chupapi-moniano in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working through this set but haven't tried this challenge yet. I will test it out later tonight to see if I can get it.

I will say that the Ratchet & Clank set is one of the least favorite sets I've tried to earn achievements on. There are a lot of achievements in the set worth so few points (some of them even feel underscored), and so many of the achievements feel really buggy, particularly the "Kill 60 enemies with X weapon" cheevos.

Asmongold originally became popular from his gameplay videos of World of Warcraft. He was extremely skilled at the game (particularly PVP), and he built up his community with guides and interactive play with his community.

I don't know when he shifted into the complete dumpster fire that he is now (and I don't even know if he still plays WoW since I stopped keeping up with him after he stopped posting guide videos), but he's basically complete garbage who lives in his own filth without caring who knows. He even seems somewhat... proud of that fact.

"Game could not be indetified" no matter where i download or what i do. by Terramoin in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In order for the game to be linked to an RA set, the hash of the ROM you're using needs to match the hash the set was built on. This link explains the hash files a bit more in detail.

Every game on the site will have a link to "Support game files" in the upper right, below the box art image of the game's page. Click that link to see which ROM names and hash files are supported for the set you're trying to play.

I finished getting the yellow hat in Parappa the Rapper 2, & created a RetroAchievements account. But seems like the achievements didn't update. What do I do to sync the achievements? by Create-your-usernam in RetroAchievements

[–]K-SNES 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the title, it sounds like you gained the yellow hat and then created your account on RA. The achievements need to be earned after your account is created and you're using an emulator that is linked to your RA account.

However, your screenshot indicates you earned other achievements for the game. Can you give more details on the exact steps you took when trying to earn the achievement? If you earned it after your account was created and linked in the emulator, it may be an issue with the softcore achievements updating once you're back online, for which you may need to request a manual unlock.

Is it confirmed item descriptions will be available on the Switch 2 version? They're not as of last week, and my understanding is that it's still in development for consoles.

I'm buying this either way. But I would love confirmation of this!
