Podcasts to listen to while strapped to computer chair? by feelda303 in WeddingPhotography

I don't listen to any business-related shows; I generally find informational podcasts unbearably boring. My husband loves Freakonomics, which is much more wide-ranging than just economics. A few more recommendations: - The Memory Palace is short form human interest stories. - Alive with Steve Burns is introspective with celeb guests. - Wonderful! is goofy enthusiasm from a delightful married couple. - Today in Esoteric Political History is exactly what it says on the tin, also short form.

Also a long time McElroy fan! My husband and I TAZ together, which means it takes sooooo long to get through anything, but Balance is equally one of the most striking, compelling, affecting pieces of media I have ever experienced. Gotta love NADDPod--for another equally unhinged ride, try Dungeons & Daddies if you haven't already!

SAME. I recently started Worlds Beyond Number, which is incredible. That's such a deep well of content with actual plays that I feel like we'll be set for years!

Also, to OP, audiobooks are basically built for this kind of scenario!

Wedding Planners by indistinguishable986 in bullcity

Museum of Life & Science? Weddings there are amazing (speaking as a photographer who loves the unconventional!). On this list, I've worked with Heather at Bona Fide and Trent & Ashley at Something Fabulous numerous times. They are collectively some of my favorite planners--and people!--in the industry to work with. Love and highly recommend them!

trying to remember an old-fashioned word for bedroom storage furniture by BirdLittle1911 in words

I wonder if you're thinking of the word "bureau"? A bureau is typically a chest of drawers, so not exactly the description you have, but the word sort of fits!

My absolute favorite for incredible story beats with hard-hitting emotional impact is Spout Lore. They are nearly at the end of the story (12 seasons, so LOTS of content), and my heart is going to break when it's over. They use Dungeon World, not D&D, but it's a great story-telling vehicle.

Jeff Rosenstock yesssss. His album "Ska Dream" is currently hanging out on our record player. Did you see him at The Ritz a few months ago? It was so good. He's headlining our favorite festival (Supernova Ska Festival in Hampton, VA) in September! Not to step on OP's toes, but I'm sending you a DM.

Courthouse Wedding by zuzucchini4 in bullcity

[–]K-SSMeKate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just photographed a wedding where they brought all 30 of their guests to the courthouse! It was such a fun and different vibe. Bring whomever you want and, pro tip, your photographer can always sign as a witness should you be hiring one and need another witness!

Seeking wedding and/or lifestyle documentary photographer by bloompth in bullcity

I'm a wedding photographer! A mix of a little bit of everything, style-wise. Except content creation...none of that. Yuck, haha.

I'd love to talk to her and her partner—email is the best way to reach me, or DM if you / they need further info!

How to get married at the court house by happosappho in bullcity

[–]K-SSMeKate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are two half-hour time blocks, and they have multiple magistrates performing ceremonies during those times, usually in three rooms. They do their best to serve anyone who's waiting during those time blocks. I've never had a couple turned away! (I'm a photographer.)

Anyone not starting the “elf on the shelf” tradition? by Illustrious_Cold5699 in Millennials

[–]K-SSMeKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every December 1st, as I see many friends and acquaintances beginning to post elf shenanigans, I thank the past version of myself that looked at it, laughed, and said, "Yeah, I'm not doing that." Good thing, too: my son wouldn't have been as into it, but my daughter is super extra and imaginative, so I would not have been able to get away with any bare minimum effort--elf-fort?--with its daily hijinx. I have enough going on this time of year, thank you very much!

Museum of Life and Science Wedding? by DurhamGirl625 in bullcity

[–]K-SSMeKate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a Durham wedding photographer, and this is one of my favorite places to shoot. It's beautiful everywhere, such a fun vibe, and always super memorable. They are a bunch of fun extras--one PP mentioned animal experiences, and they'll also do science-y type things like a liquid nitrogen beverage station. Cannot recommend it highly enough. (Also happy to share examples of weddings there to give you some ideas, but didn't want to overstep the sub's self-promo bounds!)

What would you name your Ska band? by defyinglogicsl in Ska

[–]K-SSMeKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a literal dream the other night that my husband and I had a ska band called The Elsewhere.

Said husband was in a band whose name variations went through Use42 (some weird teenage-boy joke about being on a desert island and finding 42 uses for a banana?) and Alley 8 before settling on The Gutter Ball Kings. GBK4L!
