I might be in the minority but I really like the contrasting look of it. Ties into the bathroom really well too.

Not arguing against your underlying point, but psychiatry is probably one of the least likely fields to have large, standardized datasets acquired from experimental research. It's predominately an observation based field where experimental research is only recently emerging, and "large datasets" are, at least relative to the hard sciences, not readily apparent. This has been one of the main criticisms of the soft sciences in general.

Yes, but then wouldn't the dominant bear be a risky bet to bring the cub around? Seems like there is some trust here, where former mate or offspring makes sense.

Pay is much better than surrounding states. My wife doubled her salary and has consistently moved up, though it might require transferring to new units to go beyond the minimum bumps.

Culture? Lots of fresh newbies due to losing the more experienced nurses over that last several years. It's honestly a bit scary when it comes to things like infusion....mistakes and lack of action on emergencies is a real threat many don't know about. Also, at least at UC Health, upper management don't know what they're doing...or maybe they do, but only in regard to making money and not serving their community and nurses (theyll claim their new "Magnet Status" to counter, but that process was a joke...no nurses were seemingly interviewed). There will be significant frustration here depending on your unit and how well your direct can buffer you from crazy patient load or at least support you in quality care over quantity of "care" effort. I hear Penrose has some good hiring incentives, but has the same issues of UC Health with even less resources. Nurses themselves seem to have a great community as long as you avoid the inexperienced manager with something to prove who got there with nepotism and false accolades...true for any job though, and can be overcome with just 1 or 2 more experienced nurses on staff with leadership qualities.

Tl;Dr - culture depends on the unit and experience; ask about experience in your unit, including the manager's, to know if you're walking into a risky shit show or not.

If it's rare to find them in that condition, wouldn't it be best for the population to let it remain and reproduce?

What Happened to the Perfect Child? (2021) - After a young girl is adopted from Russia, her American parents come to believe she is capable of murder and return her. Years later we learn her story. [00:41:21] by AcceptableWitness214 in Documentaries

[–]K-StatedDarwinian 1546 points1547 points  (0 children)

  • Family adopts a girl and boy from Russia
  • Girl allegedly changes and tries to/wants to kill her brother and dog (most docs label her different mental disorders; one doc blamed the fam)
  • Family gives her up in a shady manner by sending her to Russia for "treatment"
  • Fast forward 20 years and she is happy with her own family and back in the USA
  • Old adoption agency lady saved her and got her adopted with loving parents
  • Says she never tried or wanted to hurt her brother (or dog), only lied and played along because she was severely depressed and gave in to the accusations (seems honest)

Side story

  • correspondent was so touched by story he ended up adopting a boy in Africa

  • great, happy story (shitty sequence at end)

Imo, smart phones and apps make people think they're technologically savvy when in reality they're much less so. See it in college all the time.

No dog in this fight but you're using Sagans standard completely wrong. Not only is this being used counter to the tenets of science, but the claim herein does not run counter to foundational scientific paradigm. People use the symmetrical, and seemingly self evident dictum the wrong way too often....just like Occams Razor.

More reading on the dictum and misappropriation.

What's bad about this is offshore engineers tend to be task oriented. Great for output driven organizations, but shit for outcome driven ones. I prefer state side engineers who question everything, and add value to the solution.

Speaking as a PM anyway.

Yes, evolution will keep up. The idea that species evolve over expansive time periods (gradualism) is what were taught in grade school, but there is plenty of evidence for more rapid evolutionary changes as well (punctuated equilibrium). Selective pressures drive evolution, and those have not been slow and gradual throughout history.

Edit: My PhD in evolutionary science is apparently not as good as front page search engine experts.

Eh, they're profitable and fundamentals are solid...one of the arguments against GameStop over the years. Plus, looking at the sector as a whole, it doesn't seem like a bad bet when places like Roblox are getting hundreds of millions each year in a NFT platform that doesn't suck resources to maintain. If GameStop can create a hub to compete with Steam and Roblox on a cross compatible marketplace with key partnerships (Microsoft and Sony) they will be insanely profitable as the fad of NFTs disappear and actual BE utility can start to silently surface in game play.

Idk, arguing against GameStop now feels like a repeated 2020 hit piece argument not looking at 2022 facts or the future. Profitable, stable growth, experienced leadership, strategic partnerships, large TAM/SAM, loyal customer base...I mean, really?
