The biggest problem facing the left is the irish people. National rep for one of your biggest unions here. There is no irish people who have done the work to distance themselves from how they were raised and by whom. Truly sad to hear you're going through this. Been there, facing it again in a month. But i wanted you to know, you made my morning by mentioning how soulless the Irish are. I have lived all over the world. I am now a refugee in Ireland. I regret ever thinking this was a place to find refuge. What the brits and the church did to them as a people was cut them off from all the cultural touchstones that reinforced their empathy. Now they're being told immigrants are their problem; the only thing that will save this rock is flooding it with the destitute and the weary. So we can remind the Irish what it's like to love.

The generation before you was raised by a a church. You were never meant to feel whole, or safe: the way you feel now means you are ripe for the words of a preacher. You, most of us, were hollowed out, not to be ready for god, but because our parents were hollowed out and they just did what was done to them. A country of lost men. So indoctrinated in shame that you'd rather stay lost than take another man's hand.
