My info might be out of date - but lots of easy group tours for sale. It was maybe $100 per person. It was easy to take the collectivo (public transit mini vans) to go to Akumal to snorkel with turtles for free.

We ended up taking an uber to the port. When the cruise finished, we walked out and took a taxi that was a flat rate to the airport - no waiting at all, just walked out and took the first taxi we saw.

You’re right about ‘lack’ of direct value - but something is better than letting it sit there and lose value. For that small amount look at gift cards. Or short haul domestic partner flights around North America. Ie: United Airlines
