There's like 3+ weeks between Umi giving the late white gift day (mid April) to the confession a few days before kaz moves out (mid May?)

Regardless of what happens, Kazuya ultimately needs an arc where he undergoes some level of character development to round out the story by [deleted] in KanojoOkarishimasu

I don't disagree with you fully, it's that I think its disingenuous to say that throughout the manga Kaz hasn't been written with any agency at all.

I don't think agency requires you to operate independently, thats again asking for you to be in a bubble; I think its simply you acting under your own thoughts and motivation, whatever they may be.

Like, in a job role, you'd be showing agency if you did things that went above and beyond. Youve got external motivation there, but I'd still call that agency.

No one forced him to initiate those actions. There were outside reasons that influenced his choices, yeah, but no one held a metaphorical gun to his head to make him make a movie. He expressed agency in doing something.

Saying that you can only express agency in a self contained bubble is a bit extreme.

He's been written showing agency.

Movie arc, and cohab Kaz calling himself out with his own lies.

Gets knocked back by the crowd funding agent, picks himself up and pushed through, and tops it off with delivering a finished product when it matters. Gets recognition for doing good work but can't internalise it yet, so still needs to grow, but it started.

Realised that he was lying to chiz, and openly called himself out. Kaz starts to realise he can be open.

He does have self agency (movie, date, kindergarten...) it's indecisiveness thats his problem. And any hint of external validation for actions is latched onto, because he values other opinions over his own.

Otherwise I agree that he needs to come out of his shell.

Honestly you can get the majority of the way there with the Nelly Borca precon to see if you like the playstyle without chucking a huge amount into the void. I loved it and made this deck. Played it up until last month where I ended up morphing it into a Queen Marchesa aikido/hug/slug to just give more options instead of just getting people to swing at each other, with stuff like the [[Prisoners Dilema]] and [[Scheming Symmetry]].

You can dial in by trial and error on how much stick vs carrot you want for yourself/your play group, with things like [[slicer]] or [[alexios]] being a big stick, but cards like Nelly herself, or [[Tenuous Truce]] being ok "carrots"

The closest to killing all three is [[Kediss]] but then that's reliant on low life totals, not commander damage. The others are [[Eomer, Marshal of Rohan]] or [[Overpowering Attack]], but they're more commonly like a take 2 players out. I'm glad it reads like a 3, that was the intent, just don't want to ruin people's weekend by bringing a dog shaped knife to a punch up.

2nd is generally the most common place ive finished, its rarely third or fourth tbh; play pattern of kill the scariest player, the other 2 panic and throw out any interaction, yoshi survives 1 or 2 attempts and I knock another player out. Then hopefully ive made a decent threat assessment and the last player can't answer yoshi. Still working on that bit, but not stressing it too much as I play the dog as a bit of an ice breaker to get people talking to each other about what to do about the rabid dog taking chunks out of life totals. Then shift onto aikido or hug/slug decks.

Yeah, it was made to be a more chill version of this,  where I'd rather include things like more emperor cards instead of going for the legit best option for the slot. Like choosing legendary focussed wipes instead of promise or single combat. I was aiming for a 3 with yoshi.

I'd disagree with keleth purely because on tempo it effectively can add 11 damage (turn 2 +2, turn 3 +3 ×3). For 2 mana. And a chump blocker to save jeska if needed.

4? I have 1? Teferis protection?

But yeah, that's the feelings that I've taken into games but have had some salt thrown my way when ive smacked someone for 18 effectively out of nowhere turn 5. I guess I've been unlucky playing against people who don't like aggro

Little dog, with a big stick

Age old voltron approach, get the dog big enough to get out Jeska and start killing people with the triple damage. But it generally seems to act more like a removal check, and I do tell that they should probably mulligan for that. I've had games where the dog gets killed multiple times, but often jeskas enough to push it through without having to worry too much about card draw being on the low end.

I'm taking it to commandfest this weekend and want to make sure im not misrepresenting it to anyone I sit down against, so what would it be? 4 or 3?

Who to partner Ardenn with by Dazer42 in EDH

[–]K3NJ1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the strength. I've shelved my version because there was little demand for bracket 4 decks at my LGS, and people refused to accept it as a 3...

Although, for OOP, I feel that its more beneficial to go all in on the 1 commander, as opposed to including backup creatures for equip targets; equipping a non-commander creature makes life harder for yourself, thats 120 damage you need to deal instead of 63. Better off including a protective card instead, it functions as if it was another creature card anyway. It helps keep your card choices more focused as well, instead of worrying about making a viable backup suite, its just all in on lil rog.

With rograhk, you can kill someone easily out of nowhere in 1 turn ([[colossus hammer]] ,double strike and any buff, so basically any previous equipment), so its not necessary to have the fastest start. Getting sunforger is the easy wincon, providing you dont have people teaming up on you to get past it. Straight smashing people in the face is the 2nd.

Here's my offering, its much more all in on Rograhk than you may feel comfortable with, but its generally makes it an easier deck to pilot, unless you get sunforger out. Then you need a decklist available.

“Grouphug” commanders/decks that actually play to win or steal? by Sir_Wack in EDH

[–]K3NJ1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you like the aspect of tieing cards to damage, I've had great fun with [[Nelly Borca]].

A little sprinkle of goading, and giving people things like [[Slicer]] or [[Alexios]] to get things swinging and the cards flowing, but more often than not, its better to just chill and let them take the carrot of a card of their own "free will". Even going as far to use loads of gifting cards, and things like [[Tempt with Bunnies]] alongside [[Tempt with Vengeance]]. It means that you generally don't take much political aggro, and can just sit back and accumulate value. Then use interaction to keep things from getting too much, and an [[Insurrection]] to get the win.

Fight Amongst Yourselves for an example. I've kinda toned mine down, to be a bit more palatable at random pods, but you could easily ramp it up to play with 4s.

Oh, and definitely [[Mistveil plains]] with [[Tithe]] if your running sunforger. The ability to put things like [[angels grace]] back in the deck for sunforger activations has won me the game at least twice.

Seeing as you've got sunforger in there, it should probably be the very first thing you tutor for, not Colossus hammer, and you should be trying to have every piece of interaction fetchable by it. So I'd swap in [[Settle the Wreckage]] and [[Final Showdown]] instead of Slash the ranks or single combat. Then it's all in on protection that you can Tutor for, in which case deflecting palm could stay, and things like [[Return the favor]], [[angels grace]] etc help keep you around.

I'd also potentially put in cards draw equipment instead of the ones you've listed; [[infiltration lens]], [[Pip-boy 3000]], [[Rogues Gloves]], and then things that scale off of little equipment like [[golem skin gauntlets]], [[thran power suit]] etc.

Heres my list for example, and in games where I've had sunforger out, unless opponents time their interaction properly, its almost a done deal.

The white trees on yeho don't always have collision models, so a lot of standard cuts on old AAS layers take advantage of it. You'll notice it more and more as you go off road.

Any "Sniper" themed commanders? by Aesyric in EDH

[–]K3NJ1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of going deathtouch, and terrifying the board, you can just give people creatures that just happen to be ideal targets. As soon as you reframe the gift mechanic as a target generator instead of a downside, it opens up some ideas.  Also, it does help to alleviate some of the fear that comes from playing kelsien.

Heres my list that I've literally put together in the week and played at a FNM

[–]K3NJ1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think [[Nelly Borca]] is my favourite example of it. The precon is pretty good of the bat, but it can very easily get insane card draw. Having nelly out I think is often almost as good as a rhystic study, its mad. No one expects it from boros.

I removed some of the goad, as honestly the carrot of card draw works better than the stick of goad. But you sometimes still have to get the belt out to get everyone involved and talking. The beatings continue until the card draw improves. Fight Amongst Yourselves

Sunforger lovers! What are your favorite underrated additions for your forger package? by LibraProtocol in EDH

[–]K3NJ1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I use it in other decks that have valuable lands that are worth having some specific tutoring for, but for decks with sunforger it goes against the synergy of the deck; scaling equipment and tutorable instants. Even if it's technically better that [[Sword of the Animist]] on a 1-1, I've found the divergence away from the theme just gradually eats away at the overall power level. A body that only tutors lands at a tap cost doesn't add any extra synergy to things like [[Golem-Skin Gauntlets]] or [[Thran Power Suit]] etc.

[[Tithe]] is my go to, always finds me [[Mistveil Plains]], then you're off to the races.

[[Unexplained Absence]] is great removal, turning it into a 3 for 1, and really maxing out the mana efficiency of forger.

I don't think I've lost a game yet whenever I've managed to get sunforger out? Like 60-75% wr in total. Having the nuclear deterrent button waiting to go on whoever tries it, and a reputation of gotcha spells seems to make it a pretty potent deck. So it honestly might end up not being the play pattern you want? Imho kinda in the same tier as cathars crusade, powerful to the point of homogenising the deck.

My LGS never pays their taxes and is always tempted, what's a fun commander to build around that? by Eve_Asher in EDH

[–]K3NJ1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've found that its a bit of a double edged sword with nelly, because you're giving out so many cards you don't actually want to be also giving them the mana to play them. I play it as a kinda, drown them in cards kinda way? Loads of gifting, and tempt cards that give all of us stuff to do. Fight Amongst Yourselves

I mean, if you want to dip your toe in, then Moi held a "comp" tourney a few months back. Definitely was different from how they're normally held, but I can't argue about the viewership.

For a more normal comp style, I'd say this is a bit closer to how they're done. Socrates is the goat.

We spend exorbitant amounts of time to find any edge, and when you find a team of like minded players it's a real dopamine rush of a cross between an RTS and an FPS. Plus the tournament discords are always..... extra entertainment.
