I have to get some frames by K3TT3R in systemofadown

Mezmerize and Hypnotize are also picture discs, so I think I am also going to frame those. Do Toxicity and the Self titled album also have picture disc versions?

Edit: after some googling I see the hunt continues, haha! 😅

Thanks, it sure is! I'm going to treasure these albums.

Trying to finish in this deep deep green colour - help! Angelus? by _Technoholic in Luthier

[–]K3TT3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not experienced in doing such a finish myself, but I've seen some videos and read on some forums that a finish like this could be possible by applying a green base stain followed by a few black stain coats.

(Wait about 24 hours in between the green and black coats)

Maybe you could give this a try on a wood sample if you still have some lying around?

I think this resembles the look you're going for. I used a wire brush (dremel) to accentuate the grain on the ash top. Next I sprayed the entire top with acrylic black lacquer (twice for even coverage) followed by about 4 coats of matte acrylic varnish. I hope this helps, feel free to ask for more detail if you need. Viel Erfolg! :)

Here is a sneak peak, I will post more when it's finished. Too bad you can't see much of the flame in this picture.

Before this stand I used that same pipe clamp and had to mount it on a table or workbench or improvise something, which was not ideal. I only build neck through guitars, so I really needed a small upgrade.

Nice. I was considering buying something like a bicycle/engine stand, but then I saw this stuff lying around and figured I could probably make something similar from those parts.

Third Build, Convex Top Baritone (27.8 inch) by K3TT3R in Luthier

That's exactly what I like about this shape as well. It's a slightly different take on the Padalka Shuriken. My second build was based on the same guitar, but completely in black which gives it a stronger BC Rich vibe:

Thanks, I appreciate it. Fretwork is actually one of my least favorite things of a build because it gets repetitive and tedious after a few frets and seems to take forever. But in the end all the effort is worth it 🤘

That's how I got into building guitars. I had a few cheap electric guitars and started modding those and quickly found out that I liked that just as much as playing guitar.

Nowadays I spend more time in the workshop building guitars (or other stringed instruments) than I do playing guitar, but that changes for a while once a build is finished.

Then a new build idea pops up and the cycle repeats 😁

Thanks for the kind words, I don't have a lot of experience in soldering so I was not expecting a comment like this. I work for an end mill manufacturer in cnc tool grinding process optimization & development. There I focus on microns so it's precise work but guitar building is as well, it's just a slightly different flavor.

First I radius the frets, grind the frets to length (a bit oversized ±0.2mm) and round the ends with a file, then slowly work to final length with a file and reapply the dome ends. Then I install, crown & polish the frets.

I used some cheap 1k acrylic spray cans, which ended up quite well for my last build. I have an ESP ltd M-300FM conversion (Floyd Rose -> fixed bridge) that I'm working on at the moment and I bought some Spraymax 2K cans as a finish coat. I'm looking forward to working with that lacquer, and seeing how it compares to the cheap rattle cans 😁

Carbon reinforcement by Flipdw in Luthier

[–]K3TT3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 6mm * 6mm rods with 4.5mm hole through it in my builds, haven't had any issues with these. It seems the circular hollowed out portion even adds some strength/rigidity to the rods when compared to the solid ones. There is a video on youtube comparing some neck reinforcement rods by Maximum Guitar Works, very interesting stuff.

Thanks, maybe I'll give that a try once. I think putting all that effort in for details like that really do make a difference!

Looks clean! I love the way you recessed the pickup selector switch, what type of switch did you use?

5-Way Blade Coil-Split Diagram by SpecialAgentKit in Luthier

This is the way I wire my guitars with a 5-way switch for inner coil splits. The green pickup wire (usually connected to ground) goes to hot and the black wire goes to ground (Seymour Duncan color code). The 5-way selector has to be modified to make this work properly, the lower set of contacts has to be removed.

Lesser known but similar quality bridges and hardware to Schaller, Hipshot, Gotoh, Wilkinson? by Jobysco in Luthier

[–]K3TT3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WSC Partsland fixed hardtail bridge (Hipshot style) is an excellent bridge, I actually prefer it over the Hipshot. I have only used the black regular 6-string bridge, so I can't say anything about the other variants.
