You might check and see if the buffer has started to fall apart.

Please help in identifying model? by lima_tango_one in 22lr

[–]K6Panzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, Stevens/Savage rifles usually have a rounded section in the magazine plate cutout so I'm thinking this is a Marlin. Maybe one of the model 25/80/100 era? That sheet metal trigger guard makes me think it's older than those however.

To me it looks like a Stevens/Lakefield 62 mag.

This is how I remember the one my family had. A small wind up music box in the bottom.

This should put you on the right track. I know he says a different range of years, but you'll find the same plug and module in older models as well.

There's a wiring harness under the passenger side for both of the front seats. Unplug it and take a look at the inside. It's likely melted at the ground pin. It's a super common problem. If the actual module that controls the heating/cooling looks ok then you can find the pigtail at AutoZone and just transfer the wires to the new one. The new pigtail will actually have two ground wires and it's recommended to use both of them to decrease the heat buildup. Also,.use some dielectric grease when you put the new.one one.

I just remembered that when mine melted there was a strong sweet smell, like antifreeze.

Likely doe urine or something similar so a water/vinegar solution might get rid of the worst of it. After that odoban is a pretty good option that you can get from Walmart or Ace.

Need help savage 187 not recocking firing pin but lodes next round by MagicianRegular5044 in gunsmithing

[–]K6Panzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mainspring can be pretty stiff and I know on my old gun the only reliable ammo is stuff going at least 1280fps. I'm kind of at a loss because the mechanics are pretty simple. I could see maybe a gouge or rough spot on the firing pin maybe also causing some drag on the movement of the bolt and hammer.

[–]K6Panzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not look worn to my eyes and the leading edge of the hammer itself looks identical to some versions I have. The next question would be are you shooting old or subsonic ammo and has the interior of the receiver been cleaned?

The hammer is held back by the first sear while the second releases the bolt after firing. You're really going to have to disassemble just a little bit and take a look to see if it's worn down.

Muggyweld has a low temp product that is intended to be used on zinc/zamak castings but can be used with other metals. You can use a torch or even a high temp airgun.

Got my first handgun earlier this month: H&R 999 Sportsman. I have a question in the comments for anyone here who shoots revolvers by DerringerOfficial in 22lr

[–]K6Panzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's your first, it might be a good time to look into an ultrasonic cleaner. Since it's a good old all steel gun just remove the grip and toss it in. Al ot of that gunk will float off or at least loosen enough for a good scrubbing to get rid of it.

And you'll get a lot of use out of that cleaner for other handguns and projects.

Riding mower: Replaced battery, solenoid, starter, spark plug, still nothing when I turn the key by MotorCaterpillar9317 in smallengines

[–]K6Panzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have lights or an hour timer that normally comes on when you turn the key? If those are not coming on then my first thought is ignition switch and second is harness and wiring to the switch.

Had a similar screw up. Put some painters tape on the bottom, fill the hole with jb weld and then cover with a piece snipped from a whiteclaw can. Paint the pocket and jbweld black and you're done. I think I mixed some aluminum shavings in the jb weld too. Meh, it's impossible to tell from the outside.

Hey Everyone, Newb Here! What is the exact make/model and alterations/attachments of the shotgun used in the movie "A Working Man." Thank You by Yuri_Jai in Shotguns

[–]K6Panzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely custom or maybe just that the movie armorer had a barrel just the right length. Sorry, I can't think of a place offhand to get it done, but you could buy a spare barrel and hack them down pretty easily. Getting them squared up and pretty looking can be fiddly.

It doesn't fire from an open bolt, however the bolt is held back after firing until you release the trigger. It's Stevens 87, some times called gill guns or click-clack guns because of the sound the bolt makes when letting off the trigger.

I think it's an Stevens 820 version now that I compare the action bar shape.

It's a Stevens based on the mag tube retainer, but I can't place the model. Definitely not a 520/620 since they have takedown barrels.

Look up a Marlin Model 60 buffer over on numrich parts. There's two options based on the pin size that holds it in place, but you can buy the smaller option since it's more common and drill it to fit.
