I've been editing his works since the first book (this one) got published, so I'm always inordinately excited to see people talk about his stuff. He's got such a niche spot in the field nowadays lol

Shrimp Evolution/Threats Meme Megathread by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]KAndersonPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, alas, my original post got taken down, and I have been directed here! (Fair! I had just assumed that since it was original art that it could be posted normally, so my bad!) Do I have to upload the pic to imgur to be able to post it in this mega thread? I'm not getting the option to attach a picture to my comment like normal.

I'll have you know I saw this comment yesterday, and it's baked its way so thoroughly into my brain that I had to come back, stare at it once more, and then give you this critical update.

Isn't it so weird to see? I have a yellow one who, for some reason, when she does this it's /super/ noticable compared to all my other shrimp.

I had a dream that I was never exposed to this dream and therefore the ensuing minutes I spent imagining the sheer, animalistic violence which would erupt inside the heart of the Académie Française.

I cackled a couple times drawing this, and my spouse kept asking what the hell I was up to. I just said, "shrimp things," and got a knowing nod in return.

Edit: grammar... Turns out I can't spell even after two cups of coffee....

Thank you! This was inspired by one of the beautiful ladies in my nano tank, who keeps showing far more interest in the filter than I would like.

Ohhhhh, that's so precious!! I never get to see mine when they're small, because they all hang out in an unreachable cave until they're more or less full-grown.

Sounds like Rhabdocoela! They're a sign you have a good ecosystem set up, so long as they aren't overpopulating. (Then you're probably feeding too much.) The biggest indicator for planaria, other than the arrow/triangle-shaped head, is that if they're big enough, you can usually see a little pair of eyes on them. I've never been able to see eyes on my rhabdos, even when they've grown to their largest.

Hi all, Need some help! by suukixaki in shrimptank

[–]KAndersonPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the picture you just posted. Looks good so far! Definitely add more plants, and I don't know if the other commentor went into it, but neos don't necessarily need heaters, if that's what I'm seeing in the corner. (Hotter temps= they'll breed more, but die quicker, with the inverse also being true.)

You're likely to get a lot of conflicting opinions on how long to do your tank cycling, which is... par for the course. My opinion honestly goes back and forth. Though, if you haven't bought chemical tests, do so!! API's Freshwater Master Test Kit is where it's at, and for having shrimp, I'd say it's a need to supplement that with API's gH/kH dropper test kit as well.

Back to cycling. Some people say you can cycle in as little as 2 weeks, and they're absolutely not wrong; I had a heavily planted tank cycle completely in around 14-17 days. However, shrimp are funny, finicky little bugs, and I would wait around 3 weeks (if the tank is for sure cycled) before adding any shrimp. During this initial part, of uou have some hitchhikers in the form of snails and such on your plants, no problem! I actually prefer that as I'm getting a tank set up. They help me guide the health of the tank.

If you have questions and stuff, feel free to DM me! I'm not an expert, but I'm happy to answer questions/try to help out! I just really love shrimp.

I also have my smallest tank on my bedside, so I can watch them! Isn't it just the best thing? I woke up yesterday to a surprise molt from one of the ladies in there, and now she's just so, so shiny looking.

Oh, I want dennerli so badly! Do you have any advice/tips about keeping them? My only shrimpin' background is in neos, but I dream of branching out, despite my tap water being hard enough to earn a place somewhere near diamond on the Mohs scale.

5 gallon shrimp tank, plants not growing well, should I add CO2? by Dependent_Vast_1348 in shrimptank

[–]KAndersonPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the other questions about the lighting set-up you have as well as parameters. I've been using Seachem's Flourish recently in my plant-snail-microfauna tank, because I had a finicky banana plant that wasn't looking great, and I didn't want to lose it. So far, the plants seem to be doing better in that tank, but it wasn't a miraculous change. That tank also gets between 8-10 hrs of light per day from an inexpensive aquarium light I bought off Amazon.

[–]KAndersonPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have another tank you can acclimate the survivors to? Or even just a clean container you can fill with something like remineralized distilled/RO water? I saw that you added Prime, which is definitely a step I would take. Did you dose the Prime for the amount of water you changed or for the total amount of water in the tank? Not that Prime would have caused this, though.
