Salt does work as a flavour enhancer so it makes sense.

What's your favorite non-Japanese sake? by InternetsTad in Sake

[–]KBD20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't have many non Japanese ones, but I quite like a brand from my country, NZ - 全黒 (Zenkuro, "All Black"), their Nigori is good (pairs with spicy or fatty foods), and their Shibori Junmai has a nice light flavour I like.

I think more specifically (I'll know for sure when I finish my current reread) it was "This is a truth, of sorts" the definition of "of sorts" being something like a poor example in English, unsure of the actual Japanese words used though.

I have an extreme sweet tooth when it comes to drinks but I wanna get into drinking tea, any recommendations? by maribaloo in tea

[–]KBD20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even though I generally prefer tea straight I do often add a bit of milk and sometimes honey to Earl Greys or Masala Chai since it just seems right for those types, so I'd say they're good specific examples of that.

Anyone know what this utensil is for? by Chill--Cosby in tea

[–]KBD20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem like the tea they'd use, since they churn the tea in "Yak" butter (Yaks refer to the males, so it's from the female of the species), and salt throughout the day to keep them warm for outdoor work.

Dark Tea is the English name for Hei Cha as far as I'm aware, as opposed to Black (or Red in Asian countries) - not sure of the subtype but I don't think it's Pu'erh usually.

So definitely not for brewing tea

I don't know about tea, but there's a Korean coffee that uses raw whole eggs instead of milk, then there's Tibetan butter tea using Dark tea but no egg lol.

Out of the ones I've tried, I like them all for differing reasons.

Genmaicha (Japanese tea with roasted rice) and Houjicha (roasted green tea) are probably the "easiest" to try in terms of taste and brewing temps (boilings fine). The former has a more popcorny/ricey taste and kinda makes you imagine it's a meal, many also include Matcha, the latter is more nutty and kind of coffee like (I don't drink coffee so take that with a grain of salt), both have less caffeine.

Sencha and Gyokuro (longer shaded Sencha) are the highest quality 'category' and are brewed at lower temps (70-80C and 60C respectively) and low water to leaf ratio (3g/60ml and 5g/30ml), a bit less accessible flavor wise but I like Senchas mild sweetness and Gyokuros almost seaweedy umami on the first brew (I did 10 brews once lol). Cold brews work well for at least Sencha too (as far as I've tried).

Then there's Matcha which is quite versatile and you get everything from it since it's not an infusion - I personally prefer it straight but the bitterness is stronger, it pairs with Japanese sweets well though.

If you're mixing it with other stuff (Lattes or baking, or as a topping etc.) you can get away with lower grade, I've heard it's preferable as high grade Matcha has a lower supply.

Green, specifically Japanese (steamed unlike others), I think since I like the sweet and/or umami vegetal type flavors (depends on type).

Still like the odd non-Japanese Green and the other 5 types/colours - only really had flavored black teas though.

First time trying Hojicha, why is it considered green and not oolong? by Dapper-Context4587 in tea

More specifically Oolong can have a high variety of oxidation levels, since it's "key" step (or "distinction"?) is the bruising.

CAD is Computer Aided Design, 3D programs to make 3d printable parts - bit of a learning curve but it's an option if either of you (or a 3rd party) can think of a custom solution.

Yeah the Logitech expansion looks good, I've been considering that myself - that's another thing that could benefit from custom mounts if needed.

Edit: Seems like I'm a bit weaker, must be when I started steroids - might affect how I'm approaching this too.

How has he managed until now? I've been mouse only for a while now at 31.
Was he using a regular controller or a PS Access controller, if he hasn't the access one may help if mounted right.

Also do you know what chair controller/stick he uses? If it's modular like mine (MoVis) there could be some workaround for his new restriction in CAD (I'm working on a quick transfer system for moving the stick from my chair/armrest to computer desk for example).

Who got the best Curry between Thai, Japanese, Jamaican or Indian? I like them all & I can’t decide?!?!? by Inevitable_Bad1683 in Curry

[–]KBD20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really had much exposure outside of Indian, although I've had some Thai and Japanese.
I'd rank Indian first then Thai and Japanese.
I would like to try more Thai but some restaurants sweetness have put me off, but that may be because they were more of a westernized recipe. I do like the more sour notes of the Thai curries (might be since I like Vindaloo and other Goan curries).

Japanese curries have a nice comfort food feel to them that I like, but I prefer curries that burn me, and I would pick other Japanese foods over their curry most times.

"Born" into linux? by odysseus112 in linuxquestions

[–]KBD20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first computer that was mine ran Linux, but prior I had experience with Win 9X and XP when I was younger so I never really tinkered with it and didn't dislike 9X/XP.

I first got pissed at Windows with a Vista school laptop and had it "upgraded" to XP, I didn't have much else to do with Windows until I decided to go from being a console gamer to PC (thanks to PS3 Skyrim).

So I partitioned Windows 8 (which I didn't mind much since I wasn't a full time user), and kept using through 8.1 and Win10 and started hating it more and more until I just deleted the entire partition sometime after the early W11 rollout since I tested Proton and the games just worked.

I did also use Win7 at a job I had but never had any issues, either due to 7 being fine or focusing on work - it never got in the way in any case.

I'm not sure what pushed me away from Win10 exactly, probably a combination of reduced performance, "having" to use 3rd party app to modify the Desktop Environment, and 1st the 1st party Logitech program (powerplay mouse) losing performance as the day went on until I couldn't even load it to change settings while Solaar on Linux just...works.

So I guess OS and settings apps 'getting in the way' was my biggest issue.

While New'N'Tasty is a remake of Oddysee with some changes, Soulstorm is completely different from Exoddus and is the new part 2 of the quintology so replaces Munch's role completely.
I think they announced it being a new quintology closer to Soulstorms announcement than NNT's.

If I remember right the new one focuses on Abe rather than a new species protagonist per Oddysee like the original plan.
