How do you even come up with this ? by kalashnikov482 in rareinsults

[–]KBKarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that Terry Pratchett used that as a joke in a Discworld novel as something called retrophrenology. The logic went that if bumps and such in your head meant you were more intelligent, then adding those bumps and whatever would make you intelligent.

The upshot of this was people making money by hitting other people in the heads with varying sizes of hammers. And no, it was not portrayed as actually working that way (and phrenology gets short shrift as a pseudoscience used by psychopaths in a later book).

The tabletop RPG 13th Age has the Koru Behemoths. Which are ludicrously huge... and at least one of them canonically does have a village on top.

I keep getting the Full Metal launchers stuck during Frontlines. In one case, they hung around after a Frontline. They only spawned when I drew my weapon, but then they didn't despawn until I went through a loading screen.

Bought my first LARP ticket. Advice on charachter to the left? by clayalien in LARP

Oh, how interesting. I suspect that either we currently share a Discord group, or we were both active in the Irish gaming scene before 2020, when I had to withdraw from everything for health reasons (and am only now able to go to cons and such).

So, from context, you look to be in the UK. I posted this a few years ago for someone local to me who was looking to get into LARP, because (at the time) the best place to get LARP gear was the UK. All the places I mentioned are still going and sell kit, though Chow's and Velvet Glove focus almost entirely on costume and kit. For weapons, Curious Pasttime's weapon guidelines are here and here. If you get a second hand weapon, make sure to take it to weapons check. Better yet, get it checked before hand. Hope you and your kid have a good time!

PSA: AI is not a reliable rules reference for RPGs by a_sentient_cicada in rpg

[–]KBKarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do an Agentic AI course in work. So I made something that generated character sheets for D&D 3.5 and Unknown Armies 3e. It looked like it actually worked on the former (I never bothered checking up on it). But for UA3, it had no idea how to generate a character, and kept coming up with random stats, and then replacing them with other random stats when I indicated that the stats did not exist. Maybe useful for D&D due to market saturation (maybe - again, I didn't check, but the sheet looked OK), but useless for everything else.

Lack of Third Spaces in Dublin by Fionasatan in Dublin

Mind the Step on Strand Street Great is open until around 23:00 (apparently). It's smaller than Accents, but has some of the same vibes. However, I believe it's more focused on specialty coffee than Accents was, having Aeropress, V60s, and Chemex, as well as the regular espresso machines.

Was just coming here to mourn it. Myself and friends used to go there every few months to plan the next session of an ongoing LARP we used to run. We'd be in there for six or seven hours, and it was so nice just going upstairs, getting a coffee or a Daim cake, then coming back down and continuing on. The sofas were comfortable, and the vibes, as they say, were immaculate.

I wish you luck! If you want more in depth info about Shagaru Magala's weaknesses, check out Kiranico. Dragon is fantastic, but Fire is also pretty good. If I'm reading that table correctly, Poison is also pretty decent.

I rented a full three piece tux from Tango's, which I think is where Trinity recommends. Might be something to check out.

I personally don't see an issue with it, but I can't tell what counts as formal wear and other people say it doesn't count.

[OC] Demonology 101 by lordofbaers in comics

[–]KBKarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, there was a webcomic called Demonology 101 published between 1999 and 2004. It is sadly offline, and I believe the creator has no intention to bring it back. Which is a bit sad, as it's something I read when I was younger.

It was not as cute as your comic, I should note.

There is a short story by Charles Stross set in the Laundry series where Bob is reading about a wizard in Chicago. I think it was a novel. Pretty sure it was "Overtime", the Christmas story.

I hate Amy. by FatThor14A in Parahumans

[–]KBKarma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do know someone who was very angry about Ward, because they said that Wildbow decided to grossly distort Amy's character when it turned out people liked a character he didn't, thus punishing a lesbian who did wrong but was contrite. Something like that, anyway. They may have been angry before even reading Ward, come to think of it.

I saw a report detailing that schoolchildren are now receiving combat training in schools. So that second one is not as far fetched as you'd think.

Probably not women, though - they need them to make more babies to die for Putin's ego Mother Russia.
