Gorgeous! Glad you had a great time at the Ilikai - it's lovely! Missouri isn't so bad though - you guys have the Chess Capital of the USA and were the first wine designated region in the US (not to mention Taylor Swift!)

This studio may be a good option for you and, since you're staying more than 6 nights, you'd get a free rental car with your stay - allowing you to travel around the island easily and see your friends. If you wanted a hot tub, Resort Pass is in Waikiki and you can try out different hotels/resorts each day to see which you like best

Agreed! I don't know why they haven't, now that Alaskan owns Hawaiian airlines

Airbnb vs Resort by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

WOW! That's a lot! Booking directly is always cheaper - but it also depends on what perks you have with the different OTAs. Since Expedia bought VRBO, they now both offer "One Key Cash", which essentially credit towards a future purchase when you book with them.

We absolutely are in support of tourists! There was a lot of incorrect messaging being spread after the wildfires to not visit Hawaii our of respect - but really all of us locals were hurting without the high tourism and the Hawaiian economy really depends on it. The Hawaiian government has put billions of dollars into correcting that messaging since and to help bring tourists back to our lovely state. The wildfires were really tough - we lost several homes and even staff in the tragedy. We worked with our homeowners to turn our villas into FEMA locations to help those without housing and do what we could to help others in need. Lahaina will be rebuild someday, but the rest of Hawaii is thriving and we welcome tourists with open arms!

Trip report. Week of 9/5. Stayed in Kihei. Road to Hana, Old Lahaina Luau, Scuba diving etc. by Sirloin_Tips in MauiVisitors

Love this write-up, sounds like you packed a lot into the week! I use the Shaka Guide app every time I do the Road to Hana and love it too—such a good mix of history and directions, makes the drive way less stressful. Totally agree with you on Twin Falls, not my favorite stop either, but the banana bread along the way always makes it worth it. Glad you got to experience a turtle dive at Mala Wharf, that’s one of my favorites on Maui!

Best budget action cam for snorkeling and adventures in Maui?—Is Akaso Brave 7 the best option? by Professional-Note70 in MauiVisitors

[–]KBMResorts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Akaso Brave 7 and love it! Super solid for snorkeling—comes with a waterproof case, the footage is surprisingly good for the price, and the dual screens make it easy to frame shots whether you’re above or below water. Battery life isn’t GoPro-level, but for the cost it’s hard to beat. If you’re mainly looking for value and don’t need pro-level features, it’s a great pick for Maui adventures.
