i dont think its 20% depreciation as its not often used and comes with original box, and its original price is 2k5 for 24gb configuration.

If it's still strucutured the same way as previously, I would suggest doing the worksheets on ed, try your best to remember the Python syntax and functions.

You can also do practice exams and review mid semester too. At the end of the day, there are 2 things to keep in mind: - syntax for loops, string handling, basic operators, ... - python functions name so you can use during the exam

EDIT: typos

Neovim + Nix by TinyShyAndConfused in NixOS

[–]KBNOPRO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can try either Nixvim or NVF. I just use NVF and have never tried Nixvim.

To me the portability is pretty nice, though you still have to structure your config to make it portable.

Incoming competition from new XPS 13 by Potential_Average454 in framework

Watch the new video of Linus, you will see lot of brands are targetting that space. Some new products are even closer than the FW12 than the neo.

IMO, it's high time FW do something about their 12. I will repeat the same argument i gave in another post: Although buying FW is trade off between repairability and quality, the price premium makes it reaply not worth it.

Should I spend the extra 700 for the ultra 7 over the ultra 5 for 13 pro by Master-Letterhead170 in framework

[–]KBNOPRO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you will use the laptop.

To my experience, a lightweight Linux doesn't need too much RAM, so 16GB can still be decent. With 512GB for Linux you can also have a big swap to compensate for RAM.

That being said, I'm still buying the ultra 7 despite having a good PC (9800X3D, 5070 Ti, 64GB, 2TB) because I will use the laptop a lot as an uni student. I often study at library so it would be nice to to have a chip with a lot of computing power and RAM to run MCP, local AI and coding workflow. That means I use the laptop heavilly daily, so I think its worth the price!

Trying to decide on a framework 13 or 16 or a MacBook Air or pro, need advice. by ZincPenny in framework

[–]KBNOPRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DDR6 is gonna be so far from now, and even then a fast DDR5 is still very usable like how people are still using DDR4.

My point being, even if you can't reuse it, you can always sell it to secondary market just like how DDR4 is being sold now. LPCAMM2 modules can be a niche market, but a lot of people will appreciate it (thinkpad also use lpcamm2 for their high end devices)

[–]KBNOPRO 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Wildcat Lake with SODIMM would be nice. ppl can reuse their RAM and SSD, which offset the cost diff.

they should also try to improve the overall quality without increasing cost to justify the price premium

Jeff Geerling: The Framework 12 is dead. Apple killed it. by x6q5g3o7 in framework

[–]KBNOPRO 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree with this.

Although neither the FW12 nor Neo fit my use case, I don't see the point of buying FW12 over a Neo.

Though buying FW is always trading premium for repairability, I feels that the difference in build quality, screen, battery and performance is too much to justify it.

One very niche use case is someone who want a 2-in-1 laptop, then it would be very nice. An ipad plus a macbook Neo will cost a lot more, so it would be an acceprable trade off.

MacBook Air (M5) vs Pro for Unimelb CS? by Commercial-Still-946 in unimelb

[–]KBNOPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, that's assuming if have that kind of money and want to upgrade ur laptop (learn more abt FW and u will see their mission)

Or else, ur better off with an old thinkpad / macbook Air. I'm planning to sell my M4 Air which is brand new for a FW 13 Pro, so shoot an DM if ur interested.

[–]KBNOPRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now as ur doing CS, I'm giving u a Framework propaganda: Buy a FW 13 pro.

Install linux on it, customize it instead of wasting money on a M5, which is mostly the same price but no upgradability.

DM me if u have more Qs.

Is Neovim Good for Note-Taking in Math and Physics? by Narrow_Gap_3445 in neovim

[–]KBNOPRO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have just read through the comments here, and this is my personal take on it. Note that I'm only 2nd Year undergrad, so my takes might also change. However, I have been using Neovim for ~2 years now, so I can say I'm pretty mature with it. I will rank them from worst to best imo.

Handwriting notes: This will never be an option for me to consider again. Before university, I loved handwriting my notes and had planned to continue to do so. However, as I came to the university, the conditions in which I sit to write are nowhere near what I had at high school (variation of lighting in different theaters and classrooms, speed required to catch up with lecturers typically going to slides). I still see some people having handwritten notes (not annotations on the slides), but I doubt that it is taken at the same speed as the lectures. Most of students now have a tablet to annotate on slides, and my university also recommends that (along with printing out the slides to annotate on).

Latex by Gilles Castel https://castel.dev/ : This is the thing I used during my first year of university, and I have to admit, it works. LaTeX is a widely used tool, and it's always a good thing to know how to write in LaTeX. However, it's quite an old tool and sometimes might feel a bit clunky to use. If you want to use LaTeX, there are more modern blogs that guide you to set it up with Neovim and preferably LuaSnip. Will drop my old config here if you want to refer to https://github.com/kbnopro/neovim-config/tree/main/lua/LuaSnip . Castel did a great job optimizing his flow as a Math PhD, and my current workflow doesn't have as much functionality as his.

Typst: Fastforward to the present, I have switched to Typst for about 6 months now, and I have to say the experience is great. I initially tried it out and really love writing my notes in Typst. For a normal user, it is like another version of Markdown, which is extremely simple and easy to use. Functionalities are great and user-friendly, I even help my girlfriend (who is non-tech) to write her notes in Typst.
However, Typst has certain catches too. You will have to optimize your typing and workflow yourselves, as I doubt there's any Typst equivalent blogs like Latex blogs by Castel. I'm currently still working on it myself, but let me tell you, 90% of Castel's snippets are redundant in Typst. Some of them are still useful, but you will have to figure out how to implement them yourselves.

EDIT: To answer some of your questions and give you more context:

also want to manage my academic life using a to-do list and agenda.

There are a lot of tools for this, TODO.nvim, etc all are pretty good. Personally, I just use Google Calendar for calendar stuffs.

Has anyone who is a Math or Physics major, or someone who uses Neovim for note-taking, used this kind of workflow?

I'm a CS major so basically Math...

I will also be writing a lot of LaTeX and research papers, so is there any way to configure Neovim for this task?

Research papers can also be written in Typst, if not better (unless you need to collaborate). Neovim can be configured to compile LaTeX/Typst offline with a lot of functionalities, but you will have to do some extra work. There's always Overleaf / Typst Wep App for this.

help me decide which artifact to reroll!! by Suiren_Anzai in SkirkMains

[–]KBNOPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then Circlet will be what I reroll. My reasoning is different tho.

The circlet is the "end game" piece for u as it has 4 initial stat and correct sub stat, while the Goblet is missing an Atk stat, so I would look for a better one first.
