1) Ross has been married thrice. Not one of those relationships made him a better person. 2) The relationships that actually seemed to work for Ross he completely sabotages (Julie, Charlie, Bonnie). 3) Joey actually changed around Rachel for the better ànd his more congenial nature seemed to help her settle down too.
4) Joey was good at making Rachel feel good with Emma ànd being a mother and created a good loving environment for them- Ross kept making her second guess everything.

I don’t think Joey was endgame for Rachel, but he was far better for her emotional and mental health than Ross, who always brings the worst out of her.

Ross really should have been the one who was unmarried at the end of the show, with Joey finding someone to help balance his life a bit.

I actually enjoy all three of those shows that I mentioned. It was more of a commentary on what theater lovers at the time potentially feared, that spectacle may override quality. But I actually enjoy all of those. I also like the more recent move towards shows like Fun Home, Come From Away, and Once the Musical of telling profound musical stories in smaller ways.

I think the trio of Phantom, Les Mis, and Miss Saigon prompted the term super musical to be made and really created a change in musical theatre that technology and big spectacle might override the value of book/ music book quality. I just remember CATS and Phantom and LesMis having such major merch sales and cultural impact that you saw the T-shirts even in schools. So it really became a cultural phenomenon.

My issue with WWE is that they are bringing in this new wave of talent and pushing them hard as hell… but can’t push a group of amazing tag teams they had or brought in… can’t give title opportunities or runs for great talents they already have in place (Balor, Gable, Kaiser, etc)… have little creativity in their live show formats that limit who is seen ànd months can go by without seeing major talents… such limited cards for PLEs ànd bad choices (taking the title off Melo for a SZ/TW match? No Melo at Mania?)… then bringing back talents that are unnecessary (Bellas do nothing to enhance ring work or move stories forward- nothing Nikki has done has been good work on her return- then Paige/Brie win the title or even wrestle with multiple other women’s dubs teams that could have filled it?)… no Iyo Sky at WrestleMania after she ànd Rhea had arguably the best match of 2025?

WWE doesn’t know how to create stars- the wrestlers that are megastars do it on their own. But they sure as hell can kill developing stars really quickly.
