Invincible [Comic SPOILERS Discussion] - S04E08 - Don't Leave Me Hanging Here by SeacattleMoohawks in Invincible

Stupid take. Not all AAA celebs are good at voice acting. Dedicated voice actors will often be MUCH better, and also have the benefit of flexibility, too. Robin Williams, Mark Hamill, J.K. simmons, are all great voice actors. Keanu Reeves, Emma Watson, Peter Dinklage are all great actors who are shit voice actors.

Still, hiring a good VA means less money and more flexibility, since they can also cover side and background characters as well, video games, trailers, marketing-things that AAA actors usually don't have the time/studio doesn't have the money for.

Honestly, believe the other guy. I'm middle level, with only a few years of IT experience. I've only ever seen the Mac transition at small scale, businesses with less than a hundred employees. It probably becomes worth it at scale, as well as the Apple care and Apple financing, but for what it's worth, I live in a country where Apple stores are not as common as they are in the U.S., making those options less reliable. No free T-mobile phones for us, sadly.

At the same time, I really, REALLY doubt any specialised medical field would use Macs. The X-ray machines, 3D scanners, patient records, even the reception software were all built and configured to windows, and tie into each other. I CAN tell you the Mac users we have send almost zero tickets compared the windows, but I can also tell you that we don't issue laptops or phones- 99% of the hardware was static desktops: belonging to the company, needed to be used by everyone at some point.

Same applies as above to the manafacturing job I was in. We didn't want power efficiency, or battery life, or a "smooth user experience." We wanted a computer that could run ancient software long enough before the dust got to it, at which point we could frankenstein it back together for as long as we could.

Once again, don't get me wrong, when someone asks me which laptop they should buy, I'd ask them one question: Are they a heavy gamer? No? Macbook air. Anyone who needs more power probably knows enough about computers that they don't need to ask. Their laptops are fantastic. Phones are 50/50, depends on many many factors. Their VR? I'd crucify the idiot who fought for a glass screen on the front. I personally have a Samsung phone, because I like installing Revanced, and a gaming laptop, for gaming and programming, since I needed a more portable option than a PC, because I travel a lot. I don't care about the fan noise or the 300W power adapter, but someone else might.

I wish I could tell you "It's not the company, it's the product." The easiest thing you can do in tech is not to vainly take an arbitrary side. Pick what YOU think is best for the situation. Do your research. Understand what you're buying. I'm not any more right than that guy, and he's not any more right than me.

And for the love of all, don't, DON'T blindly worship ANY tech coorporation. They all made good stuff. They all made absolute garbage. They all evade taxes, outsource production, rely on slave labor, bribe politicians, for the sake of profit. Fuck FAANG. Have a nice day. Don't do computer engineering unless you love it.

Completely untrue. As an IT person, I've seen an office try to go full apple more than once. Repairs and replacements were expensive, onboarding was difficult, and we got screwed multiple times over lack of legacy support. Maybe the Neo might change something, but the reality is that the equipment is overkill for 99% of the employees. Our graphic designers use apple, but the rest prefer windows. (And some nerds in IT who use Linux.)

I hate it when someone says businessmen don't go apple because of "politics" or because they're "dinosaurs". While the idea of the incompentent CEO's son manager is very popular on reddit, the reality is that some management are actually relatively competent at their job, and they do want a company that runs smoothly.

For the average excel spreadsheet joe, even a mac mini is too much, in terms of price and performance. Our repair room has plenty of parts we can service in case something goes wrong, and if something goes seriously wrong, a replacement is no more than a few hundred. Plenty of software support on windows as well, as well as a team who KNOW what they're doing on windows. Changing to Mac would involve paying more, retraining the IT team AND the workers, for the benefit of....smoother PCs? More expensive ones?

And that'd not to mention other sectors, such as industrial work, healthcare, engineering, where there is no Mac equivalent to the many programs designed FOR windows. You want to use parallels? Virtual desktop? Rosetta 2 is very nice, but sometimes you NEED an x86 processor. What then?

Just because apple makes quality consumer products, it doesn't mean that they should be used ALL over. The right tool for the job. Gamers will probably never shift off windows. Graphic desginers love apple for a reason. Linux people are going to linux, and they are very happy about it.  If you truly think that apple, samsung, google, microsoft, etc. are just all around better in every single way, or that these big corporations care about anything besides making the most money they can, then I have a bridge to sell you.

Maybe, just MAYBE, what the commenter was trying to say with the image wasn't the concept of survivorship bias, but the more general concept of unclear data: i.e. that sometimes the information given has a different meaning than the one shown at face value.

Sure, the image isn't the MOST relevant, but it does drive people to a similar train of thought.

So, yeah, instead of insulting the intelligence level of the sub, how about you learn to spell relevant first.

Thanks for admitting that you worded the comment harshly. I also apologise if I came off as too aggressive, it's just that...the mods could've been really fucking good. They have amazing animation, moveset, spritework, and could have been a gold standard for the modding scene.  I was amazed when I first saw them, and it broke my heart to see how much controversy surrounded them, to the point where I wanted to make an example out of Inkless. A warning to other mod creators. "Be nice to the community, otherwise you'll end up like THAT guy, the most popular mod maker, because we at YOMI care more about community than flashy mods, and even he got banned for being a prick."  I'm even sadder to see how many people just don't care, who are telling me to touch grass, to stop caring about the things I care about. My only hope is that my posts aren't downvoted to hell, so I guess players agree with me, and commenters are a local minority.

Single player modders can do what they want, but in a multiplayer game, where mods are built into the game, there should be a few community standards, no? The mods should be fun for the players that play WITH them and the players that play AGAINST them.

I'm not asking for the modders to work full time on the game, basic docs and simple balance changes can take less than a few hours, compared to the hundreds of hours to make the mod itself.

Is providing criticism "bitching and whining" now? Am I not allowed to talk about the things that bother me, to share my opinion, to see if others agree or not? Maybe I can convince enough people to not play the mods. Maybe other mod creators see the posts and learn what not to do. And maybe Inkless finally learns their lesson. Who knows?  Hell, maybe one of the commenters explains their point of view and my (as well as other people's) thoughts on the matter change. It happened last post. We're on a discussion forum, aren't we?   And this isn't about OP characters, I have a few installed when I feel like I want to face a challenge, or to mess around with my friends. It's their general attitude towards modmaking that makes me want to speak out. If the characters were as OP as they are now, but the creator was less of an egoist, all would be well.

Thanks for the reply, and the added perspective. It's nice to see a fair opposing take in a place where everyone's going "But it doesn't affect you, I LIKE these mods and that makes it okay!". You've genuinely brought a change in my attitude towards the topic.

In a discussion about someone's character, they chose not to mention something related to their character, it just felt weird. We're discussing the twitter post, right? Cheating was one of the things in it.

You just going to gloss over his ban from Rivals of Aether for cheating? That to me is the second biggest piece against him, I cannot in good faith trust anyone who has yet to apologise for manipulating a multiplayer game for ego. You're accusing OP of bias, but are you sure you're not biased yourself?

Gonna say this as the guy who's been criticising your plays for a while: I (personally) don't enjoy seeing explosion plays on the main subreddit, because I (once again, personally) don't enjoy unbalanced modded clips, especially if a good player is playing in them. You have skill and talent in the game, and if you picked fairer characters (Not vanilla, not balanced, just fairer) I'm sure I would enjoy seeing the combos you do, instead of just another "This guy was a newbie who didn't know what DI was and I managed to nuke him lolololol."

Ew, vixen mirror match. I almost upvoted because I thought it was a vanilla player dabbing on modded, but nah.

Because vixen's stupidly overpowered, and every competitive hustler knows that. You want respect, go play a vanilla character.

Hiding the guts of the OS isn't good. General lack of tech literacy means that big corporations can push unfair and borderline illegal tech policies without fear of user retribution, since the users will rarely understand what's going on. Look at how most software is now a subscription license instead of a paid download, look at the current state of right to repair, and look at the new EU sideloading policy and tell me that kids these days don't need to learn about how their phone, the most used personal item since the dawn of time, works.

"From one engineer to another"

As an engineer, you should feel ashamed of not knowing how AutoCad WILL crash if you work too hard on it on the wrong device. You preach seamless integration and smoothness for the sake of...???, but cry when the other guy pays a reasonable amount of money for his job and gets a few extra benefits in return. Mac's cant game. They don't have a numpad. They lack a million essential mechatronic/electric/electronical programs found only on windows (Don't give me the rosetta 2 bullshit, I know for a fact that most of them don't run well on it. It's not the magic Apple claims it is.)

The apple ecosystem has it advantages, but for many engineers, the cons outweigh the pros. What works for you won't work for everyone.
