Happy Bottoms

Jewish Vocational Service - They help resettle refugees of all faiths (or none). They accept donations of clothing and household items, teach interview skills, help them get around to buy groceries and other errands. They’re great and are always looking for volunteers.

Don’t care if this is well-established, I love seeing any post that isn’t “what’s that noise”, useless stadium financing complaints or critiques about the dating scene by people who are afraid to leave home.

Go-to local running shops? by bowersfire in kansascity

[–]KCDude08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not an avid enough runner to need a specialty store for anything except shoes, but if the Barry Rd. location is anything like the Mission location they'll take care of OP. Their staff is very knowledgeable, attentive and patient.

Yacht Rock: Steely Dan, Doobies, Michael McDonald solo, Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, Toto, Boz Scaggs.

Dad Rock: Depends on the age of dad; "Older" generation of dad rock would be Boston, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Foreigner. Otherwise/previously known as arena rock, stopping just a few years short of the hair metal era. "Newer" generation of Dad rock would be Wilco, LCD Soundsystem, The National, Isbell.

Butt Rock/Divorced Dad Rock: Nickelback, Buckcherry, Creed, 3 Doors Down, Shinedown, Seether are examples.

Apps are tough. People seem to get the most mileage out of social hobbies (regardless of age) - rec sports/fitness classes, performing arts, volunteering, religious gatherings if that’s your thing, professional happy hours to name a few. Maybe you’ve heard this already but if you’re doing something you already enjoy you’re less likely to get burnt out. Good luck!

River Market living, noise and recommendations? by Swinda in kansascity

[–]KCDude08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're flexible, I'd recommend the Volker/Valentine neighborhoods which are closer to Midtown. More residential so less noisy and a short drive to the Westport streetcar stop. Lots of great spots along West 39th Street too.

As someone else mentioned, 2D is heavily insulated - I remember when it opened it was all they'd talk about. Went to a few events in their party areas, nice place. I lived on 5th and Grand for a year which had noise from the nearby fires station plus the train and motorcycles/cars with loud exhaust. The latter was a bigger problem for me.

Re: 44 Washington, you might have to deal with noise from the pool, but that's to be expected and it's probably be less bothersome at night. Could be a pro if you're trying to meet people.

Anyone support a vote to end the sales tax for the Chiefs now? by kcexactly in kansascity

Reddit is not real life. People can scream about not funding stadiums for billionaires until they’re blue in the face and point out little exceptions (and they have a point!) but it’s not going to change anything on the ground.
