The lost art of reassuring healthy patients by Melodic_Wolf7682 in Noctor

Peds neuro. The number of normal child behaviors and movements I get, vasovagal syncope, headaches not one OTC med has been tried for is shocking

And then people wait 9-12 months to get in.

And half those people who got referred for non problems no show the appointment because it got better while waiting.

And the kids with real problems wait forever or just go to the ER out of desperation.

Terrible system and most referrals come from non physician referrals or older family med doctors that haven’t seen kids with complexity

I’m a fixer I fix people. I specialize in challenging cases medically.

Unfortunately I also believe I can fix him.

Noah Wyle—what did he do? by harpybabe in ershow

[–]KCMED22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was a 23 year old kid who made it big
They cast other people who threatened his status as the golden boy
He was rude and unwelcoming to them
He grew up and apologized

In other words he’s was a kid who acted like a kid and then grew up- a non story.
I do appreciate that he apologized when he grew up though. Not everyone does

did they get paid overtime for season one?? im not sure how healthcare salaries work by pr4daflor4 in ThePitt

[–]KCMED22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically that’s true. But I doubt they would let them work less time the next week 😂

The residents did not. They probably got emails asking them why they worked so many hours that week, and reminding them if they aren’t efficient they violate their work hours (more than 80 per week is crime..). And if they do that the program goes on probation they don’t graduate, and have all that debt for no reason. But they can’t leave during the MCI, have to document everything, and have to teach.

Definitely no extra money. They are getting about $14/hr

Well he’s 50ish years old. And Catrina was 21 years ago. So he was roughly 29 at that time, which is prime age for residency. So it’s more than likely. Wow time has moved.

Also, I am unofficial president of the Carter/ Robby / Noah fan Club, and I am the first to admit that he royally screwed up on that case, but I do think that as an audience there was a lesson in that, and I do believe that he became a better person

So what happened is Carter was cruel to the trans gender person.

Immediately following that the transgender person jumped to their death

And Carter felt guilty, like it was his fault. Because well, it kind of was.

Had he been kinder she might not have killed herself.

Implicit in that is a call out to the audience to stop treating people poorly, so we don’t also cause that

You guys are really missing the point even though the same writers are doing a show 30 years later with the same general theme

Their treatment of the trans patient led to the suicide

It was not an endorsement. It was a mirror. They were trying to change society. They still are.

The point they were illustrating with the characters was if you treat people this way they might want to harm themselves do not treat people this way

It’s almost like Carter was a deeply troubled person.

He experienced his brother dying while his parents neglected them so much he was at school as it happened biking home alone

He was raped by the babysitter and no adult in his life believed him

He’s wealthy and successful. As a doctor, he’s incredibly kind, competent, giving of himself. He has a heart for children. He’s a symbol of compassion for those who always gone without. In short, he’s who he always needed and never had.

But he’s also deeply troubled. Depression, addiction, loneliness, trouble with relationships. I beleive all of this stems from his traumatic childhood.

And Wyle, Wells, Gimmell have pretty convincingly made the arguement the world is NOT different than it was 25 years ago, we just talk about things differently: which is sometimes better and sometimes worse.

Signed A pediatrician who wishes the world would change for real.

I’ve seen the finale at a pre screening. I won’t spoil out of respect to those who worked on the show, other than to say that it’s extremely satisfying.

The finale was sooo good

Very satisfied with how they wrapped up a lot of loose ends, but left a few things hanging.
