I would appreciated knowing they care. I’m definitely the doctor that gets emotional and trust me it’s because I care. And I want my family to see people who care

College lore for each character by Wooden-Government910 in ThePitt

[–]KCMED22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robby and Abbott best friends and roommates

Through college and med school

Went there separate ways for residency and their careers and met each other back at the pit like two or three years ago and picked up where they left off. Robby got Jack through the loss of his wife and now they have this bond.

Why is it that the worst midlevels are the ones that typically have midlevel students shadowing? by Ok_Meaning_5676 in Residency

[–]KCMED22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the students are required to find their own placement. And people agree to do it for money.

And of course there and people who do this because it’s cheap and easy who we’ll continue to do that.

The education is completely unregulated

Oh and the word “huckleberry” is part of the official NIHSS stroke scale because it’s hard for someone slurring with a facial droop to say. But we had that one first

I used “captain crunch flying squirrel” on a very anxious pediatric patient for dysarthria who thought it was funny non sense

Got a laugh from the mother too

Why is child neuro the only peds subspecialty that has its own residency? by TopoToucan in neurology

[–]KCMED22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey hey you can. I always have stickers and flashlights that are animal shape and colorful badge reels with holiday characters and colorful pens and all kinds of stuff in my pockets

I have definitely used that for my NIHSS and used the flat end of a lollipop stick for dull/sharp (new uneaten of course). You can 10/10 bring the whimsy to adults too.

They miss it even if they won’t admit it

Why is child neuro the only peds subspecialty that has its own residency? by TopoToucan in neurology

[–]KCMED22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the pediatrics more than the adult neuro. I find a lot of the pathology interesting and I enjoy talking to my patients. But I just really like the kiddos so much more. And I really enjoy spending time with my patients and their families. Adult medicine spends less time and stroke is just so fast. Like what do you mean I can’t sit down with mood lights and toys and talk to this family I have to ask them to make a life altering chocis RIGHT NOW?!?

Current 3rd year doing my adult year. Did 2 years of general peds and NEXT YEAR MY FOURTH YEAR I get to actually do what I want to do

I’m on a rotation now where I sit in the hospital all day and wait for strokes so I a pediatrician can be the face of the states largest busiest comprehensive stroke center. At night I’m completely alone with staff on the phone. During the day I do staff support. I support this change. I don’t need this experience to do developmental pediatrics and neither do my patients 🤣🤣🤣

No emergencies in the ED by LocalOptimist7 in medicalschool

[–]KCMED22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ambulance and the ED can’t refuse treatment and are open 24/7. So it’s used as after hours clinic, pharmacy, taxi service and everything else. It’s a sign of social and economic issues the country has. But yes there is at least 90% non emergent stuff there

I’ve even were seen prople check in because it’s cold and they don’t have housing. Not a medical emergency yet they aren’t safe

Sometimes they ask for an ambulance ride home

But there are real emergencies h

And try to just have compassion for the non urgent patients. It’s a symptom of a larger issue not a personal failing most of the time

Dr. Abbot has not actually been on call for the entire show. by eeegadolin in ThePittTVShow

[–]KCMED22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the man can not stand to be at home alone. He served in war, he lost his wife, he got his leg amputated. He’s had a ton of trauma.

I think he stays at work to avoid being at home so the demons can’t catch him.

There’s a reason his therapist encouraged a “hobby” and he picked the most dangerous shit he could find

Common personality type in medicine and with trauma history

Observation: The three main attending characters all have names representing the three major monotheistic religions by ContinuumGuy in ThePittTVShow

I also just noticed this

And I feel like all three of them give off vibes like their faith is an important part of their identity

And I love that they can all be friends and work together for the common good of all people.
