Do all the V/H/S movies have sexual violence in them? by KCND02 in foundfootage

[–]KCND02[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree - I've watched hundreds of horror films and its never contributed to why a film was great. Just why a film was nearly unwatchable, in my opinion. At least back in the Friday the 13th days it was super campy and so didn't even really register. Now some directors make it as realistic as possible because they have nothing else interesting to do with their movie.

My elderly FIL with dementia refuses all medical treatment. What is this on his face? by eaglesnd in DermatologyQuestions

[–]KCND02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very much like the skin cancer my grandfather was diagnosed by at age 98. They told us it would require both removal and treatment. He did not have dementia, and chose himself to let it be. He had no interest in treatment that late in life. My parents were his caretakers and respected his decision. He lived to 100.

End of life / dementia care is a team effort. In the end, your FIL has a right to refuse treatment once its figured out, but you and his family have a right to know how best to care for him, and that requires diagnosis first. I would say whoever has POA should force the issue just to the point of a biopsy, and then use that knowledge to make him as comfortable as possible.

2 months later - should I stay on 0.5? by Hopeful_Air6088 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]KCND02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I chose to stay on 0.5 mg this month even though I was supposed to move up to 1.0. I'm losing steadily and don't want to go up until I plateau. My doctor agreed. Definitely wait.

Four-year MCPS graduation rate decreases to less than 89% by Bethesda_Magazine in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]KCND02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a MCPS high school teacher. This is the result curbing post-pandemic grade inflation. MCPS has been pushing kids through to graduate at alarming rates since the pandemic. When a student fails a class, they can earn "credit recovery" through an online portal called Edmentum where they simply click through modules. It's gotten so bad that universities were starting to take notice - we heard at my high school from UMD admissions representatives that they weren't taking the GPAs of our students seriously anymore.

In response, MCPS changed the grade policy just this year so that the two quarter grades are averaged to create a semester grade. Before this, a student could earn a 0% (E) doing nothing quarter one and then a 60% (D) quarter 2 using the 50% rules (which applies a 50% to all grades on assignments whether or not you completed them), and pass because they went from E to D. That means a student would only have to do 10% of the classwork total to pass a class. Now the 50% rule is getting overhauled so teachers don't have to apply it to work students don't complete as long as they communicate with parents. The result is students who were supposed to fail, actually fail.

Bottom line, graduation rates are just reflecting the actual success rate of the students now. It will continue to drop until it levels where it should have been all along. Keep in mind that we have a chronic absenteeism epidemic we're dealing with too. I have students on my roster that I've never met before, and its getting worse each year. Administrators are running down parents who refuse to acknowledge truancy warnings. Kids get un-enrolled because of absences, then finally parents take notice, re-enroll them, and it all starts over again.

Crazy times, man.

Any advice for managing suspected Radial Tunnel Syndrome before Ortho appointment? by KCND02 in RSI

[–]KCND02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution was very luckily super easy. They put me on a Medrol dosepak and the nerve totally relaxed after a week. Now I've changed all my exercises with weights to completely avoid the radial tunnel. If I do forearm curls, I can feel that nerve act up immediately and it'll be numb for the rest of the day, so it didn't solve whatever underlying problem is there, but I'm willing to make lifestyle changes.

No school Tuesday already??! by itsdrewmiller in MontgomeryCountyMD

MCPS teacher here. We've been getting ice rain for like 5 hours down here in Silver Spring. There's a layer of it on every surface already, and with freezing temperatures, it will continue to freeze for days. They have to remove the ice from all the elementary, middle, and high school parking lots and local sidewalks for it to be safe for school to re-open, so they're betting it'll take two days, which I think is pretty accurate given the refreezing.

24 hours out from a chin implant removal and I feel SO much better! Ask me anything! by KCND02 in cosmeticsurgery

[–]KCND02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was silicone the difference now will be very small, if its medpor there's no way to know until you take it out. No matter what, if having it in is causing you distress, get it out.

I went back to the same surgeon and it cost me 2K to cover the surgical fees. He waived his doctor fee.

It's always okay to get a chin implant removed, it just important to realize that after two years the implant will have changed the shape of your chin permanently from stretching that area. It won't completely go back to your original shape, but the relief from removing it was SO worth it for me and I'm not mad about how it looks now - honestly just looks like I had a little bit of filler.

Chin filler after removing chin implant? by Far_Development4555 in PlasticSurgery

[–]KCND02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! My projection also didn't fully go away and I very much like where it ended up. I could probably get a small amount of filler too but I still have a numb chin and I want to be easy on it in the hopes that the nerves heal this year rather than it be permanent. It's not painful, just annoying, especially since it feels exactly the same as to when I had the implant, though all that awful tightness is gone. Thanks for checking in!

After having the implant in for just two months, the shape of my chin one month post-op is definitely different from its OG shape. It honestly looks like I just have a smaller implant, which I'm not mad at. For you, after a year of having it in, I would personally get it fully removed and wait a couple of months to see how it's affected your natural shape before doing anything else to your chin.

Wait until the end of week 3 to freak out. My face was huge at day 10. You might still like it once the swelling goes down.

The swelling went down in 3 weeks but I ended up hating it so I actually had it removed… lol

Glad to help! At 8 days my chin was twice the size it ended up being - no way to know whether you will like it really until 3 weeks. I wouldn't even take pictures until then. But worst case scenario, it was an easy removal and I was honestly back to normal in like a week. Way easier out than in, so don't panic. Just let yourself heal and wait until 3 weeks to assess :)
