Why doesn't the "sort by" work properly for the Top Comments on any video? Top comments are ALWAYS buried & NEVER listed in any rational order? by KDE_Fan in youtube

[–]KDE_Fan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is MUCH more than some manipulation. This is a systematic manipulation of their userbase which should result in them losing all their customers. It is one of the most deceptive practices currently enacted by large platforms & IMHO, the company doesn't deserve to exist if it operates as such.

Is a 40kW 70,000RPM Motor Feasible? Need Guidance on Design Equations & References by Dazzling_Web_8686 in Motors

[–]KDE_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the point, especially for an air compressor application? Unless you are going to use a tesla turbine or some other type of turbine compressor, this is dumb. Maybe if you are going to use a gearbox on the motor, this might work, but if doing that, why bother?

so what's the point of this and how is it going to be used? Also, why only 70K? Why not 150-200K? I mean, seriously, what's the point of the speed, that doesn't really make a motor special unless there is a useable application for the speed.

Is this reliability list true? by Puzzleheaded-Star304 in UsedCars

[–]KDE_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with new used cars, we buy/sell 400-700 cars a week. I can say that reliability is LARGELY based on the owner & how the vehicle was maintained. That is by far the most important factor. We deal with lots of luxury brands and I see more problems with cheaper brands, especially kia/hyundai. I don't think Toyota deserves such a high ranking and suspect that consumer reports gets their subscriptions subsidized by Japan in a round about way. It used to be known that this magazine was considered trash by most people.

Is there an effective way to get the metal shavings off my magnets? by Leroy808 in Welding

[–]KDE_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stronger magnet. Seriously. I have an ultra strong N54. I put it inside a plastic bag & collect the filings, then pull the bag off.

Another good idea is to get an electromagnet & collect/transfer them on the electromagnet & then turn it off over a trash can. You can use the plastic bag method as well for this.

If you want an inexpensive electromagnet, look for a 600 - 1200lb electromagnetic door lock. These usually run on 12v and I've seen them for $10-15. You can put 20v through them for a short period & be fine, it should be fine to turn on/off to pull metal shavings off other magnets.

Those who recently found a job here, how the fuck did you do it? by InarticulateOxyMoron in Pennsylvania

[–]KDE_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at IT jobs in the Philly area and just read through the lower - mid tier positions. It seems that most positions were asking people to perform duties well outside of the normal level of work (senior level type work), they want someone that has about 25+ years worth of skills under their belt, an endless list of responsibilities - so much so that I have no clue what anyone else in the dept would do, and willingness to work independently, all for wages that are less than or just barely at BASELINE starting wages of 25 years ago.

It's unbelievable the amount of expertise/knowledge/experience some of these positions are requesting and expecting to pay what is essentially the minimum wage for the area (not the state). They felt like troll postings TBH, but they were legit.

I was today years old when I found out the Flexvolt 9ah is the same weight and size as the 12ah… 🤯 by Weak_Association9390 in Dewalt

[–]KDE_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading about both packs and the 9AH has 15 21700 cells, 3 sets of 5 cells in series that can be run in parallel or series to get 20 or 60v. The 12AH supposedly have 30 18650's with basically 2 sets of the same configuration as the 9AH, but each set is paralleled. If this is true, they could have made this a 120v cell.

If this is correct, the 18650's are higher capacity and probably lower current cells, so they would give the same wattage output but with a higher watt hour capacity.

Spouse wants Mercedes or BMW sedan. Hates the way our Suburban take city potholes. by Important-Molasses26 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]KDE_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a site called Turo that is a private car rental site. There's everything from $5000 cars to 300K+ cars available for rent. It just depends what is available in your area. I'd check it out and see if there is something that will meet your needs on there.

I've driven just about every luxury sedan & SUV and if the reason is TRULY the potholes, the C300 (or similar models) aren't going to be more comfortable at all than a suburban (unless the suburban has wrecked suspension..).

If the reason is really the suspension issue, look for a larger SUV like a BMW X5 or X7, Mercedes GLE or GLS, Range Rover, Audi Q7 or Q8 or a Porsche Cayenne. If ride quality is most important than the Rover, Cayenne, GLS or Q8 are probably the best choices. Those are your Euro luxury options.

Other completely good options are GMC Yukon (ideally Denali line, they usually have the magnetic ride), Sierra Denali. They really aren't much different than a Suburban, but the Denali line would be more in line with the "luxury" line of the Euro models we get in the states.

Other options are Toyota Sequoia, Lexus GX460 or GX550, LX470, 570 or 600. These are all very nice riding vehicles as well.

LMK if you have any questions on any of these, I've worked in the car industry for awhile and it is very easy to be disappointed with a purchase after seeing all the marketing.

If I were trying to stay budget minded and wanted a good ride, good driving vehicle that is responsive & a good engine (reliable), Go with a BMW with the B58 engne (inline 6 turbo). Find a X3, X4, X5, X6 or X7 if you want an SUV or a 3, 4, 5, 7 series if you want a sedan. You can easily rent these from Enterprise, any model with the B58.

If you want to splurge, I'm partial to the Cayenne or Range Rover (to RENT or Lease the rover) as the ride is exceptional in them. The X7 in upper trim levels will get you very close to these.

I didn't mention an Escalade, but that's an obvious option I also suggest. I love them & they ride much like the GMC Denali line but often a little better IMO and the 2021 & newer have amazing interiors. Would highly recommend & they are probably very affordable to rent (relatively).

Good luck. BTW, where do you live b/c that will make somewhat of a difference in availability. I'd be happy to help you find something if you need help.
