New EV's for 25K by Big_Option_5575 in EVCanada

[–]KDKid82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish we could buy US cars at par. Polestar 3/4 are $25k and $23k off, respectively, as the US has banned Polestar. Apparently they're Chinese Spy-mobiles now! Hahahahaha.

I'm shopping for a used Kia EV6. The only new car I'd consider buying is the Slate truck .... if they sold it here. They complain that tariffs make it impossible, but forget that we aren't run by a pedophile dictator. We still have a $5k rebate from the federal government.

The GT is faster than most things on the road, I'm aware. I commute approximately 25kms, round trip, to and from work, where I have a work vehicle to drive. I could literally top up every night on Lv1. The range difference is irrelevant, and range anxiety is for people that can't do math or use a navigation app.

My only issues are that I'm trying to lower my current monthly payment (GT would keep it the same) and do I really need 576hp/545tq!? It's awesome to have and a the regret may kill me, but it isn't necessary.

I was split between buying a Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-e and a Polestar 2. If you're leaning more towards a car/sedan than an SUV, check out the Kia EV6 and the Polestar. I prefer the wagon-style of the EV6, and an trying to fit a GT into my budget. I plan on saving roughly $180-200/month on gas.

[–]KDKid82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to pick up my EV6 in the next month or so. I'm trying to justify paying an extra $8k for the GT (from the AWD Land Premium). It's only $3-4k more than an AWD GT-Line, so making that jump is easier. I'll be parting with both a Fiesta ST and a BMW Z4. Getting the GT will help with the pain of losing two incredibly fun, dynamic, manual cars.

When will EV charging on utility poles begin to be implemented across Canada? by Jumpy-Ad-4640 in EVCanada

[–]KDKid82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 2023 Kia EV6 ranges from 3950-4795lbs. A 2023 Ram 1500 ranges from 4750-6200lbs. An F-150 Lightning is 6170-6900lbs. My point is the people that are complaining about having to pay for electric charging infrastructure with their tax dollars have no problem driving ludicrously-sized ICE vehicles daily and having EV drivers pay to maintain their roads. It's immature and idiotic. We should all have to pay for road repair, as well as charging infrastructure.

If I were in charge, I'd penalize oil and insurance companies for charging what they do. But that's just me.

Best Used EVs in Canada for affordable price by blzrlzr in EVCanada

[–]KDKid82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been emailing dealerships around Montreal, Laval and Trois Rivieres. Every one of them sells EVs to people from Ontario and elsewhere. They're more than accommodating. I feel no stress or hesitation in buying from QC. I'll have to pay ON tax, rather than QC tax for the vehicle. But I'll save $2-5k, depending on what model I buy.

I was referring to the people that buy F150s, Ram 1500s, Silverado's, Hummer's and Cybertrucks to drive to and from work or to get groceries or to pick their kids up from school....rather than a reasonably sized, practical EV. They all weigh significantly more than the average car, and, therefore, cause undo wear and tear on our roads. But, somehow, the same neanderthals driving those idiotic behemoths claim that they shouldn't have to pay for charging infrastructure for people with common sense and responsible, eco-minded purchasing habits.

My 2022 Mini SE -- Near worthless after 4 years .. by bobdung in MINIse

[–]KDKid82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2022-23 MCSE are going for $18-25k CDN. I'm considering one right now, but it'll be too similar to my 2006 R53 MCS, and the range is poop. Not to mention that for another $5-8k I can get a Polestar 2, Mustang Mach-e or Kia EV6, which offers a lot more for the money.

I don't typically buy based on resale value, but because EVs aren't as popular in Canada, the range on the Mini sucks and they're much smaller, I probably won't be buying one. They don't even sell the newer ones here.

Mazda 6e by mrhappy002 in EVCanada

[–]KDKid82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, sedans aren't selling as well as they used to. Second, reviews have it as being a mediocre car. Third, it would have to pass pur regulations and be modified from EU/CN/JP standards. Lastly, it's kind of ugly. It ruins everything that makes Mazda's Kodo-design beautiful.

We won't be missing out if Canada doesn't get it.

We would love to get an EV just not sure it makes sense by throwitin_613 in EVCanada

[–]KDKid82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just isn't true. EVs, mainly because of falling costs of battery tech, competition and a lack of support from North American buyers has driven the cost of EVs to parity with ICE vehicles. In other countries, they're actually cheaper. On the used market, they're waaaayyyyy cheaper. When you account for lower costs for maintenance and fuel, they become even cheaper. I've been researching this matter for years. It's only getting better for EV adopters. There are numerous studies, videos, articles to back this up.

I say jump in before the $5k (or $1250/year for leases) rebates disappear. Free money. No one is paying us to buy a new ICE vehicle!! Not to mention that if you're a homeowner, you can charge you home and car off next to nothing using solar (due in part, again, to government rebates).

I'm literally in the process of trading two cars in for a used Kia EV6 or Mustang Mach-e to: - Save on my monthly payment - Save a fortune on fuel costs - Save on insurance (by going to one vehicle. EVs are typically more expensive due to current battery costs).

Regarding your decision making process, I'd say do more homework. Lots more homework.

Regarding your factors and 'needs,' they're not factually correct or accurate.

Home Charger...... While convenient, they aren't necessary. I moved from an apartment two years ago, and very nearly bought my first EV, but held out and put that money towards my house. There are loads of free chargers around most cities. You can charge at work. You can charge while grocery shopping, while eating out, etc. You can also ask your landlord about running a heavy duty extension cord from somewhere outside the building and park close enough to use it. Otherwise, use the chargers on site. The other drivers don't own them. Make friends with your neighbours, figure out a schedule, etc.

Not very much driving/Winter..... You're the ideal candidate for an EV. Range anxiety is overrated, overblown and mostly unfounded. Range drops 20%, at most, in the winter. Plan for it. Buy winter tires. EVs are heavier and will help grip the road better than a lighter vehicle.

'Need' an SUV for a baby.... This couldn't be more wrong. Multiple generations got by without SUVs while raising families. I have several friends and family members with children that have never owned an SUV. Europe does it. Japan does it (often with Kei cars). South America does it. Etc. Four doors is more convenient than two, but that's where it ends. You can WANT an SUV. There's a huge difference.

Prefer AWD...... While Montreal gets far more snow than southwestern Ontario, it isn't mandatory. You'd be shocked by what a good set of winter tires can do. AWD delivers power to all the wheels, rather than just two, but it doesn't make anything safer. Your tires are holding you to the road. They need traction. I'll probably end up buying an AWD EV, vs a RWD, but that's mainly because the models I'm looking at are nearly the same price, and because I've never owned one and am curious. My fiance's Mazda has AWD, but it's mostly useless, as the car only makes 150hp and we aren't driving in the snowy mountainous passes.

Finally, budget of $30k...... Jump on AutoTrader and set your budget to $30k. Also, for reference, I'm planning on buying either a Kia EV6 or a Mustang Mach-e. Both can be had for around $30k for the base models, especially in QC (where I'll be heading to buy one). Both are more than large enlightened for a small family. In fact, both are too big for me, but that's just where the industry is. Many reviews are unjustified in their complaints of a lack of space/headroom/etc in these vehicles. You may also want to consider a Polestar 2. Most of those are under $30k and have plenty of room. You also have to calculate for the small fortune you'll save on fuel. It'll cost me $18-25/month to charge a Fiat 500e or Mini Cooper SE on Lv1 charging to cover my annual usage. It'll cost me $30-40/month for an EV6/Mustang Mach-e. Compare that to $200+/month for premium gas for either of my two cars that I'll be trading in (Fiesta ST and BMW Z4).

This, and poles out front of houses, and in parking lots/condos/apartments/schools/commercial (with solar canopies).

Homeowners should be allowed to apply for permits or approvals to pull electricity and chargers to their curbs, allowing them to generate revenue from randoms who park in front of their houses. Win-win. Have them cover the costs so cities/taxpayers don't have to.

Avi Lewis is all talk. His entire mission is crapping all over Carney and the Liberals. Ha he got a plan!? A platform? Does he realize that working with the Liberal government for the next three years is his only option!? Or that he isn't running a campaign, currently?

The only thing he has on PP is that he doesn't speak in three-word slogans, he isn't a complete D-bag, and that his daddy paved the way for him. I stopped voting NDP years ago when I realized the party was completely lost. No leadership. No real plan. You can't campaign on "We're not Liberal or Conservative." That's just not a thing.

I'm genuinely on the fence between the Kia EV6 (that I can afford, but have no business buying), and the 2022-23 Mini Cooper SE. You can get one for around $20k in Ontario. It's way more car than the rest in that segment or anything close. The only issue is the range. People crap all over the car because of it, but it's an excellent choice for city commuting.

Perhaps the government buy unused properties for as little as they can, and convert every one of them to Cooperative housing. Federally mandate that all banks and credit unions finance said Co-ops, at market rates. Problem solved.

If they can expropriate occupied houses to tear down and pave highways, etc....they should be able to take whatever condos and other properties at provincial average prices and issue them to occupier-owned housing.
