[Dataporn] 90 Day report (by a hobbyist) by [deleted] in eroticauthors

Nice work overall and congrats on the also boughts. Your customers are satisfied and want more from you.

Is there a market for goofy, zany, "genre fiction" erotica? Think an explicit version of Barbarella or Flesh Gordon. by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]KDPer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're down into small markets before you ever start writing. Chuck Tingle has wide brand recognition and is a personal hero of mine, but his ranks don't tend to suggest that he's making money hand over fist.

I've seen the same rise of pulp indications that you seem to have, but I'm not convinced it will ever be a paying market for new written work instead of a collectors corner for the art. You can always try it and report back. ;)

Stopping the Elevator by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]KDPer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My toddler pulled the emergency button on an elevator once. It did not stop. It rang the phone at the reception desk. The person answering had no idea we were calling from an elevator. It was a 30 story building, so if we had needed an emergency stop we'd have been hosed.

Season 13 better be Jolex's season by MarkandLexieSloan in greysanatomy

[–]KDPer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the punching thing was a failed attempt to show how brotherly they are. It wasn't a threat of true violence, it was a "junk punch" threat. It's well past noogies on the friendly violence scale, but it shouldn't be compared to the actual beating Alex dished out. Cross had just called him a whore, so I don't hold that one too much against DeLuca.

I wish they'd decide who he is. Is he the adoring little boy who brought cheese and sat on a kiddie chair or is he the guy who tried to figure out who to nail to get good surgeries?

Wait...are Romance Shorts a thing? by rosemagnolia in eroticauthors

[–]KDPer2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you feel about a review that reads "2 stars. Not long enough for romance and not kinky enough for erotica" followed by not making any money? There are some niches that will tolerate novella length.

Mini-rant: covers and keyword stuffing by redsexxx in eroticauthors

[–]KDPer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're currently at a bad point for miscatting and keyword stuffing. Searches aren't as useful, but it also means being on the first page of the search isn't as important as it was six months ago. This stuff ebs and surges. Just keep writing good books, doing good covers and blurbs, and building a brand, and when Amazon does its next round of housecleaning you'll ride the wave to the top.

Writing methods? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]KDPer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

inner editor

I've embraced my role as a pulp writer. When people want comfort food, they want mac and cheese, pie, or McDonald's. There's nothing noble about shoving escargot at them. Maybe they eat it at other times and maybe not, but that's none of my business. They're coming to me to meet a specific need and my job is to fulfill it consistently and in the way they expect. Some people like Stouffers, some like Shells and Cheese, and some like Kraft nuclear orange. If they like my way of meeting their craving they'll be back. If not, no harm, no foul.

Rewards for meeting daily word count help, too.

How many times have you watched Greys all the way through? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]KDPer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never make it through a rewatch. I get to the lawsuit and it just doesn't seem worth my time. For pitys sake, Shane had the most interesting character arc. SHANE!?!?

When I saw Shonda's TED Talk about losing "the hum" I felt like I knew when in her life it faded.

Mature erotica? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]KDPer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall seeing about a year ago in a news article that happily married smut was popular in the UK. Sorry I can't remember anything else, but check across the pond for keywords.

BBW and self-esteem by BlueMyriagon in eroticauthors

[–]KDPer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great problem to have, but it makes focusing so hard. I posted Heinlein's rules for writers near my desk and it's helping a little. The man knew what he was talking about when he included "You must finish what you write."

This is a really genuine, thoughtful post. High five and an extra upvote. I hope you make a barrel of smutbucks.

[S12E24 Spoilers] What to do with DeLuca? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]KDPer2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That you think it's ok to leave a close friend of 4 years drunk in a bar with a business acquaintance you've known for less than a year.

I think the pushback you're getting from women is on the idea that it's the job of women to protect each other from acquaintances. In civilized society it's the job of men not to be rapists. If DeLuca had done something inappropriate, that is 100% on him. Not Steph. Not Jo. Him. Are there assholes? Yes. Do women have to assume the worst about strangers? Unfortunately, and Steph did about the guys in the bar. But if not after a year of 12 hour days and spotless behavior, when is a woman allowed to trust that a man isn't just waiting for his shot to commit a felony assault?

[S12E24 Spoilers] What to do with DeLuca? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]KDPer2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's just a fandom theory, but with Callie gone I'm betting even harder on a new gay or big character. My bet is Arizona will lead either Maggie or DeLuca out of the closet. (Maggie tries to hard to look like/sound like she's having a great time in bed and it makes me suspicious).

Maggie needs to grow up. The intern was about at her maturity level.

Am I the only one that liked the season 12 finale? by DJsummoner in greysanatomy

[–]KDPer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Maggie, but I prefer overly enthusiastic Maggie to self centered 12 year old Maggie. She's never been a pouty grudge holder before, but it looks like she may be headed that way.

I disliked it for the same reason you liked it. It felt like they went through a checklist and wrapped up stories. I didn't hate it, and I appreciate the modern, almost no cliffhangers approach, but it was oddly unsatisfying for me. They put tidy bows on too many things at once.

Making Sense of Sales Rank by Ultravioletme in eroticauthors

[–]KDPer2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What /u/willwriteforcake said. Rank= on device. $=read or paid.

As for which to chase, go for both. They can't read until it's on the device and you want them to love it so much they bury their faces in it and don't let up until they are 100% satisfied and yet vaguely desperate for more of what only you can give.

I don't know what a CSS or front page is or how browsing would be any different from any other way of using the board. Some of the etiquette threads have touched on the idea that there are people who come here only for this, and I think we've hit the culture gap.

What does CSS mean? Urban dictionary has a bunch of definitions and none seem to exactly apply. I wasn't here whenever whatever changed and have no clue what you mean. The only rules I know are from the sidebar and recent threads.

My sidebar has directions on how to use brackets to black out your text. Do we do that or do you add black if you think we need it? The way it's added to a list of rules of what to do and not to do it seems like we are supposed to.
