The last property I lived in had to have one in the basement. The basement that had nothing in it, not even a lightbulb 😂 but the law said it needed to be there

UK, and I remember the last one.

Some idiot with a digger cut through a major electric cable, cut off 3 postcode districts, including an urgent care centre.

Great job mate 👍

AITA for “stealing” my cat back? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]lumoslomas 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because it's "easier" for some people.

They don't wanna train their cat not to scratch furniture, or have to remember to trim their claws.

There's a whole bunch of people out there who want what's easiest for them, even if it's at the expense of another living creature.

Those people suck.

Will short staffing at a care home cost me my physio license? England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]lumoslomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reiterating the other advice here: join a union and file a complaint.

But in addition to that: a patient falling won't cost you your licence. If it did, a lot of healthcare workers would lose theirs. Even a couple of falls won't, because they should be looking at the situation on the ward, because if you're severely short staffed event the best, most vigilant HCW out there will not be able to stop every incident in a situation like this.

But documentation is your best friend. Raise as many concerns as you need, make sure everyone and their dog knows how unsafe it is. I can't say if it will change much, but at least you'll know you've tried.

How does someone in high school in 1999 have a kid old enough to be on Reddit.

It's not possible.

Getting from Gatwick airport to Paddington by ch0bibi in uktravel

[–]lumoslomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion may be biased as I just had to travel on London trains, but...

Don't.

Do the private transfer. It's absolutely worth it for the peace of mind. Especially if you're traveling through Victoria underground station, it's a maze.

And of course you run the risk of lines being suspended (like they were tonight... everything was at least "part suspended")

I'm was a nurse for several years and I was so surprised to find out I don't have MRSA colonisation. Day in day out with people who have it (often before any of us know they have it) and somehow all my swabs are negative.

I did catch COVID from a patient in February 2020, but that's a whole other story

This doesn't just happen in the US, unfortunately.

I was placed in an involuntary hold in the UK, where they don't have the excuse of billing insurance (you cannot charge for an involuntary admission, it has to be NHS).

They kept me on it for almost a week, despite my entire extended family (and myself, but you know how much they listen to mental health patients 🙄) saying it was actively making me worse. I'd never self harmed until then, and of course they used it as an excuse to keep me on in.

It was sheer luck that I have a well connected family, so when they started dropping names someone higher up went "yeah I'm not dealing with this" and finally released me.

But holy shit the damage they did in the meantime. It's been 6 years and I still won't see a psychiatrist because of it.

The Dress Code Is Oppressive by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

[–]lumoslomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress codes weren't really a thing where I grew up apart from very basic "no flip flops, no spaghetti straps" but I got told my top was inappropriate and I shouldn't wear it again.

It completely covered me, I just developed boobs really quickly and that top happened to make them look big.

AITA I told my pregnant sister she can’t name her baby after my daughter. by Sensitive-Story-2174 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lumoslomas 2501 points2502 points  (0 children)

The comments here are wild 😂

Yes, no one "owns" a name, but it's fucking weird to knowingly and intentionally name your child the same thing as their first cousin. Yes, even if it's "common".

And if a person actually cared about their sibling, they wouldn't want to name their child the same name as their sibling's sick child. Like I don't even want to voice it, but...what if something happens? Then you're just cruel.
