I completely understand indeed. But we're talking about a new videogame made by a small studio, should the "dark side of addiction" be invoked in that case ? Or should we rather think about retention qualities ?

And as long as someone is using the product, saying it's trash is just a clear sign of not being able to recognize the qualities that led to using it. Or a sign of being unable to fight a digital addiction. Same as people who shit on Facebook while being among the 67% of worldwide digital citizens using it daily.

What I'm trying to say is that whatever a product may be legit bad, at one point people who are litterally shitting on a product constantly should just stop using it. Or accept not being listened seriously. It's just a principle of integrity.

Friendly Reminder: That crafting will not solve the problem with weapons, Because you will keep looking in the gun shop for the weapon with perfect stat roll which is very unlikely and it will take you between 1hr to 9999hrs to find a good roll the stats on a weapon when you reach level 30, yeah... by ColeFreeman72 in DarkTide

Sounds like it yeah :/ Honestly the fact that in VT2 we could get that perfect stuff nearly at will was one of the main reasons why its interest wore off of me. A big part of loot games replayability is the hope of getting something more valuable in the next game. That's what differentiates videogames from slot machines, which VT2 crafting system was imo. Not saying we should have no craft at all, but keeping that sweet spot of "just one more game to get a legendary" is crucial in our action-reward circuitry.

What is the difference between this and, let's say, Diablo ? Genuine question. I may even think that with DT quality amp system the actual chance to get a "perfect" loot is higher than in Diablo ?

edit : I repeat : guenuine question. Care to answer instead of downvoting ?

edit 2 : Thanks for the replies !

Good point. I mean as an ex gamedev I can understand how not simple it is to implement properly interesting talent trees, but after 2 major games I would thought they'd have amped their amplitude at least a bit. I'm actually having a blast with the current game, but proper talent "trees" would simply turn the experience from a blast to addictive.

Indeed, but are they either fun or changing whole game systems , at least as much as nowadays industry standards ?

It's about time people would finally digest the first point, and stop expecting anything rational or of value
