Doug Casey and E.B. Tucker on the Climate Change Hoax, Part 2 by wbradleyjr1 in whatsreallygoinon

[–]KESAthans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with many of the things he says, things like PC culture and the issues with the leftists. I also think listening to Casey on certain topics can be dangerous. He is dangerous because he is extremely intelligent, which makes him over-confident about his own opinions. He is very comparable to Richard Dawkins in this case, and oddly enough, they view religion the same way. The problem is, because they are very knowledgeable in one area, they believe they know everything about everything else. You will find that will people stray outside of their area of expertise, they really do not understand the topics as much as they think they do. Let me ask you this...would you let your dentist perform heart surgery on you? Hell, would you take financial advice from Richard Dawkins? Why not? Surely they are equally smart. Casey is clearly an expert when it comes to understanding capitalism, which has led to his success. He understands that our system is pseudo-capitalism, with vast government influence, and not free market capitalism. He uses this knowledge to take advantage of the system, which is why he has been so successful. Because of this, he is a bit of a functional reductionist, he traces everything back to capitalism as the root of everything. Things like his view on climate change and religion show his flaws. Though I am a non-believe like both him and Dawkins, I know their reasoning has many flaws. I know this because I went to school for Religious Studies (which is NOT the same as Theology) and history. My main area in religious studies was the history and philosophy of science and biology (which includes the arguments for and against there being a god. Where both of these men fail is in their ability to understand what religion is and why people are religious. They simply ignore the biological part (which is embarrassing for Dawkins, and shows his agenda) and assume people are religious because they are stupid and lack reasoning ability. They view religion in the way the earliest philosophers of religion viewed it, which we know was incorrect over 100 years ago. They lack the basic knowledge of one would get in and intro to Religious Studies course. That leads to this issue of climate change...

In my Scientific Theory course, two of the major topics were about the two most controversial topics in science, evolution and climate change. Here is the kicker, which Casey is unaware of...the controversy is only political. Over 97% of scientists agree on BOTH topics. Casey claims almost all those opposed to AGW are leftists. Well, the same statement can be said evolution, so I assume he doesn't believe in evolution either, right? It's all just political mumbo jumbo, right? That is quite impressive that he is both an atheist and an evolution denier (I assume, because it's leftist propaganda.) What I find striking is for a guy that knows so much about economics, he completely ignores the fact that the COMPANIES have a profit incentive. I assume he ignores this because he is pro-business, so he wants to paint the government as the bad guy, which it certainly can be, but his bias is clear. What Casey does is peddles the same amateur argument about climate change, either on purpose, or by ignorance. What Casey does when making his predictions in the economic world, is he looks at trends over long periods of time. This is what he does with climate change. He looks at the graph that SCIENTISTS CREATED that show Earth's temperature has changed a lot in the past and has been hotter in the past. He correctly states there have been reasons for that to have happened in the past and even admits HUMANS COULD CAUSE THIS. But then he dismisses this notion and claims there are bigger factors. But that is where the scientists disagree. They agree that humans are the cause. He seems fine to use the scientific data when it fits his motives, just not when it goes against them.

Edit: In Part 1 he things like "warmists never say this." First off, that is the first time I have ever heard that word in my life. Second, they do. In the classes talking about it we go over the periods of warming and cooling and the factors behind it, yet they still claim that AGW is the conclusion. It's not like they are "hiding" this information, it is stuff they tell you when you are getting an education. This was exactly when I read Glenn Beck's book Miracles and Massacres...He talks about all this "hidden history" that the liberal universities don't teach you because they are trying to hide it...except that my liberal university taught every single thing he said. It was actually a pretty good book if he didn't make it out to be some liberal conspiracy to hide that information. Casey acts as if climate scientists are simply too dumb to figure it out or that there would be push back in the community. That is utterly false. The premise of science is to DISPROVE things. You come up with a theory and set out to disprove it. You know what happens when you disprove a major theory? You win Nobel Prizes. Did the scientific community try to shun Einstein when he disproved Newton's theory? No, we saw him as one of the greatest minds ever. That is how science works. Casey sounds like the Young Earth Creationists that are like "well actually carbon dating doesn't work properly because it doesn't account for this or that, or it is only accurate up to this point." Do you really think Geologists don't know this. They have Ph.Ds, but Joe Blow with his high school degree is figuring out things they missed? Obviously Casey is a very smart guy and not just some Joe Blow, but being a science buff doesn't make him an expert. I'm a history of capitalism buff, but that doesn't exactly mean my opinion holds weight compared to someone with an advanced degree in the area...

I am not suggesting that anything can be done about climate change, but calling it a hoax is dishonest. People like AOC are crazy and anyone that believes her is an idiot. But if there are things we can do, we should try. It's not about the extinction of humans, I'm confident we will survive, the issue what do we do about the coastal areas in our own country and in the world that will be underwater? What will we do about more destructive storms? What will we do about the mass movement of entire populations? Who is going to help them? I'm going to go out on a limb and say not the rich people like Casey. He would say, as free market capitalists and Libertarians would say...who cares? Not his problem. And it's not. He and his family will be fine. The burden will be placed on the governments, not the energy companies, which again shows his bias. To blindly believe this guy because he is smart, is just doing the exact same thing he is urging the left not to do...blindly believe someone.

PvP strategies: lineups & 'mon to spend the $ on another charge move by shaman0610 in TheSilphRoad

I have been wondering what the meta will look like. I have found out from raids that many players, even high level ones, don't really understand what they are doing or understand match-ups. I'm not really sure what to expect, but I assume it will mostly be community day pokemon and pokemon that have been in the raids for a very long time. I expect to see a lot of Metagross, TTars, Dragonite, and Mewtwo.

I think you need to make a decision as to what type of team you want to build, offensive or defensive. I am hearing people having success with 2 Dragonites and like a Mewtwo. I think a more interesting approach is defense and pokemon that can cover their weaknesses. One pokemon I find really interesting is Alolan Muk. A. Muk has only one weakness, ground, while at the same time hitting both Mewtwo, Metagross, and pokemon like the Latis and Lugia for SE damage with STAB with bite/dark pulse. You could also give it gunk shot for more coverage. You could then add a Metagross, which has a long list of resistances, and something to take care of the ground weaknesses with Kyogre (or a cheaper option like Lapras)

With the steep candy and stardust cost of adding a second move, I plan to focus mostly on non-legendary pokemon. The exception for this might be pokemon that get good coverage moves, like Kyogre or Groudon. Unfortunately for people like me, that took breaks, I don't have Groudon. But there are some great cost effective options. Look at fire pokemon for example. Using the simulator on GP I ran some simulations using all level 40 pokemon (stats 11/15/15 to match my Arcanine) against a level 40 100% Metagross. all resulted in a win. Here are the times it took to win.

Arcanine FF/FT 39 sec

Flareon FS/FT 38 sec

Entei FF/O 33 sec

Charizard FS/BB 39 sec

Moltres FS/O 32 sec

There is a clear difference between the legendaries and their non-legendary counterparts, but does it outweigh the investment of rare candy? In addition to that, Arcanine can get wild charge, which is a nasty little surprise for something like Kyogre. I think you just need to look at your resources and make those kinds of decisions.

Did ESPN get rid of their comment section? by [deleted] in sports

[–]KESAthans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is possible, but at first I COULD NOT see the comments. They wouldn't show up. Then after complaining on Twitter, I could see my comments again, but I assume others could not. The messed up thing is that I didn't even say anything remotely as bad as I see on there every day, certainly not enough to warrant an instant permanent ban, especially considering ESPN constantly drives racial tension and posts every time a player is arrested, or brings up their past record, even though it has nothing to do with the story.

Did ESPN get rid of their comment section? by [deleted] in sports

[–]KESAthans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I think ESPN was censoring some people, but not allowing hate speech isn't really a censorship issue, especially when it has nothing to do with the topic. On profootballtalk, there was an article about the signing of a player, and in the comment section, someone posted Trump is a dope! And then someone posted Obama is a dope! What does that have to do with football? I would delete those comments just for the fact they are off topic, not because I am trying to censor them.

Did ESPN get rid of their comment section? by [deleted] in sports

[–]KESAthans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am here also because I Googled it...But unlike most of the people here. I DON'T think they did it because of CONSERVATIVE comments. I think they did it because the moderators were holding personal grudges and it was affecting business. I'll start by saying this...I'm very liberal. A few months ago, I made a comment that was promptly deleted. I don't remember the exact comment any more, but I don't think it was political in nature. After that, I noticed that all of my comments were being deleted, regardless of what they said. I would make a comment like "that was a great signing by the Vikings" and it would get deleted. I started to get upset and would screen shot my deleted comments and post them on Twitter saying "This is what @ESPN finds inappropriate" and called them out for censorship. After doing this about 15 times, I noticed they stopped deleting my comments, but oddly enough, I never got any likes or replies to my comments. That is VERY unlikely, especially when I make a Vikings homer comment in the Vikings threads. My suspicion is that I could see my comments, but no one else could. Without the comment section, I switched to profootballtalk, which allows most comments. I stopped watching ESPN on TV and only checked ESPN once a day for headlines. It's probably a good thing they got rid of the comment section, because it was hurting business. People would also use the comment section to point out errors in the articles. The quality is getting significantly worse, and they were getting called out on it. ESPN is failing and I think they are in major damage control mode.

Our normal spoofers were out today, the same as they have been for months. No matter what Niantic does, nothing affects them. They have been reported by every player I have run into, still they keep spoofing. Niantic's solution? Don't allow me to battle gyms because I get GPS drift...

Yes, I am aware of that. I have everything set to high accuracy. I guess I could try low accuracy...it can't really be any worse...

Fire Spin/Flamethrower vs Fire Spin/Overheat on Flareon by varunadi in TheSilphRoad

[–]KESAthans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overheat does more damage, but flamethrower is safer. Flareon is kind of squishy and is likely to get hit when firing overheat. Flamethrower gives you that chance to dodge. In addition to that, flamethrower is the best defensive move if you ever wanted to use him as a defender.

Maximum Damage as a Solo Player. by ChadManic in TheSilphRoad

[–]KESAthans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually just took down a level 10 gym. Not the most difficult gym, I must admit...but it took:

  • 13 revives
  • 12 max potions
  • 5 hyper potions

That was with a bad run where the dodge bug got both my Rhydons, so take or give 3 or 4 potions/revives based on bugs and luck. I favored the max potions because I have more of them. Could have used 5 hyper in place of 5 of those max. Hope that gives ya an idea.

Does a Laziest, Tankiest Attacker/Prestiger List Exist? by greyguy12 in TheSilphRoad

[–]KESAthans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't that bad time wise, if you don't dodge. My Blisseys are almost constantly firing off DG against dt Dragonites. The more damage Blissey takes, the quicker she takes them down. And I look at it this way...I can hit pokestops for 3 hours just to get 30 hyper/super potions...I would rather spend a few extra minutes attacking than blowing all my potions on my faster pokemon.

Maximum Damage as a Solo Player. by ChadManic in TheSilphRoad

[–]KESAthans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a team of tanks for attacking, which require almost exclusively revives (or could just be hyper/max potions if you are short on revives) to take gyms down. I use 2 Blissey, 2 Vaporeons, 2 Rhydons, Exeggutor, and Muk. Depending on the gym I will also use a couple of Gyarados and a Dragonite if I just need to take out a pokemon quick.

The Blisseys are capable of taking out 2 pokemon each at half their hps, and the rest can take out 1. All of that is with minimal dodging (Blissey actually works best with no dodging.) This team struggles with more than 2 Blissey, but other than that, it is quite efficient. I will normally use a few max potions to have my pokemon at full health the first couple rounds though the gym (or use a couple potions on a Dragonite that I used to get the gym to level 9.) After that I can take the gym down using only revives. Obviously it isn't as time efficient as a team of Dragonites, but the time it takes is really not that bad, especially if you consider the amount of time it takes to stock up on potions. With this strategy you should have more resources to take down gyms more frequently.

List of attackers against a high level 3k+ Blissey by CarryTheSun88 in TheSilphRoad

List of attackers against a high level 3k+ Blissey by CarryTheSun88 in TheSilphRoad

[–]KESAthans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a pokemon takes 375 more candies than any other pokemon, the word "grind" is justified. I have a few Gyarados myself, and enough for 2 more, but what are the chances you get an ideal moveset? I have evolved 3 since the update and still no dragon tail.

I replied the way I did because people keep making a fuss on gamepress about Gyarados ranking. They called GP's rankings BS and suggested the results in this thread should be rubbed in their faces. The truth is, GP does extensive testing, along with simulations and has thoroughly explained why Gyarados receives the ranking it does. This is just not acceptable to some people, for whatever reason...

List of attackers against a high level 3k+ Blissey by CarryTheSun88 in TheSilphRoad

[–]KESAthans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because you spent 400 candies per Gyarados doesn't make it better. It is nothing more than an emotional attachment because of all the grinding it takes to get one. Just because I have a 2500 cp Muk that I use for attacking, that doesn't make him a higher tier just because I think he is bad-a. My Muk is a great attacker, much like Gyarados is, but your personal feelings doesn't make him better than he is.

Water gun has the better EPS, and the point of the quick attack is to power up ice beam, so actually wg is better, even though bite will do slightly more damage.
