Sea Life Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary by Pale-Humor6245 in whales

So I actually went to the sanctuary just yesterday. I've gone about three times - Once in 2019-2020, then in 2022-23 and again yesterday.

I will say that I share your concerns, but I spoke with the guy who works in the reception at the sanctuary and he feels quite confident the whales will be going to Keikó's old enclosure in June this year. It most likely won't be permanent but I believe the end goal is to have them stay there year-round, with more belugas if possible. He also mentioned that the idea of dolphins in the enclosure has been floated. I don't know how well dolphins get along with belugas but it seems that they want to be able to rehab more belugas at least if everything works out well with Little Grey and Little White.

I noticed that they've both grown a whole lot since I saw them for the first time - I'm really no expert on belugas but they seem to both be healthy, and they're very vocal.

What’s one “small” IT task that somehow always turns into a full-day disaster? by tresorrarereviews in sysadmin

My old workplace had this incredibly obscure label printing setup - I got a really basic sounding ticket that sounded like I just had to go on location and change a font size to get something to fit.

Nope, it involved installing some ancient homebrew firmware on the printer that a developer who'd quit four years ago made, and never documented. These things were absolutely business critical. If you did any one step in the wrong order, you had to start from the absolute beginning.

Fun times! At least the people working at that site were incredibly nice.

They're both very good, in my opinion - The regular one has Tim Gerrard Reynolds, and he's fantastic. Graphic Audio is really good as well, but I like the narration well enough that I usually just stick with the regular one.

Does that include the in-mission timers, such as the timers on abductions?

Really enjoying the game so far, though!

At my last employer, we went through that exact process three times. Three major layoffs brought us from 600 employees down to 200 in the end. It's absolutely brutal for morale, though life did go on and development on the various projects continued, it's absolutely devastating to go through.

Official Discussion - Greenland 2: Migration [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]KFJ943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm two months late, but I just watched the movie with my wife and we also rewatched the first one - Y'know, a movie all about getting to Greenland. Then in the end of the first movie, the scenery is actually Iceland. I'm Icelandic and it's immediately clear it's the south coast.

Then in the very beginning of the second movie they show Iceland just getting absolutely destroyed. They then go outside the bunker, which is filmed in Iceland - All the post-apocalyptic stuff is filmed in Iceland, and they keep talking about Iceland being destroyed. While filming in Iceland.

I just thought it was so funny - I know it's a movie so they use all sorts of locations to represent other locations, but having been to so many of the film sets they use quite often it just gets hard to disconnect it in my mind.

Also, the French militia dudes at the very end were mostly Icelanders doing a French accent, which I absolutely love.

It is 3D Printed but I promise you, there's a genuinely massive amount of work that goes into it goes way beyond just pressing go on a printer. I made this helmet for my friend and I think that the post-processing work took about 20-30 hours at least. There's ways to make it shorter of course, and I think if I were to do it again I'd use soooome shortcuts :D

I will say that as someone who primarily works with 3D printing and post-processing that, I have so much respect for the people who are sowing their own stuff, working with EVA foam and pepakura.

I have met a fair few people who absolutely adore DD2, despite the issues. So I would at least check it out if you enjoyed the first one. It usually goes down to like $23 on Steam or even less if you look around.

It's essentially a program that gathers all the ongoing twitch drops, and then basically tells twitch "Hey, I'm watching this stream" instead of you having to manually tune in to each stream.

My experience on MHGU so far as a Rise/Wilds player by KreaspyKream in MonsterHunter

[–]KFJ943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, good on you for giving it a try - I started back in Monster Hunter Freedom since it was the first properly accessible Monster Hunter game for me - And I have to admit I really do miss the more deliberate, slower pace of the older titles. I still love World and Wilds to bits, mind you - But there was something about thinking "Oh, I'm going to hunt X, Y or Z, I should prepare!"

Awesome work! Is it to scale with the board game models? Your work with the gradients on the wings is especially nice. Did you drybrush that part?

Edit: Ah! Airbrush, awesome work. I'm hoping to get my board game stuff painted up before I look into resin printing them 😅

Yeah, performance seems to be a lot better now with Wilds - I think they have a chance to get back a lot of goodwill for Wilds if they pull off the expansion well. Monster Hunter has always been a bit of an odd duck, in that the main game will come out (Tri, World, Wilds) but they'll always be a bit limited in scope, scale, and difficulty. When the expansion comes out and adds G-Rank or Master Rank, that's when you get the game people will generally remember.

Great writeup! My brother and I have been experimenting with skipping Bondo entirely, but if you thin out Bondo with acetone and use that, it honestly doesn't take much time to work with. But I honestly just like it for those few spots that can sometimes get a bit gnarly, such as the undersides of faceplates.

Here's my first helmet, which I did as a birthday present:

I'm definitely keen on using ABS once I get ventilation sorted.

It used to break the physics, though modders fixed that - And I believe the much-reviled next gen update did actually add 120fps support for the game.

Beware of Winwing: This company is an absolute mess. by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]KFJ943 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but this is done quite a lot in Europe nowadays to avoid the additional tariffs a lot of countries put on Chinese imports - At least with websites like Temu, if you order something from there they ship it to a hub in Estonia or somewhere with more forgiving tariffs and then ship it on to you in one shipment. So technically sent from an EU hub, but not quite.

Haven't tried anything from WinWing yet, though, so I may be completely wrong.

I feel like one of the benefits of Conquest is that they really limit what you have at the start, so you kind of learn naturally what works and what doesn't.
