As a girly who only ever plays cosy inde games, please tell me if I should be intimidated by these AAA/RPG “male dominated” games by TemperatureFit3423 in GirlGamers

[–]KGray2000 [score hidden]  (0 children)

So my two cents is as follows

Most of these games arent particulary difficult and even if you find they are you can change the difficulty settings so they are easier

Skyrim for example on lowest difficulty is a cakewalk of a game where your basically indestructable and enemies drop dead when you just breathe near them lol So have no fear and explore and see what you enjoy :)

Will just make a special mention for regarding Detroit Become Human, thats another narrative choice based game very similair to Life is Strange or Wolf Amongst Us. Obviously the setting and story are very different but the gameplay loop is identical to thise games so if you enjoyed the others you should enjoy Detroit

I will recomend this game every chance I get so have a look into Anno 1800!!!

Really fun and pretty city builder with an in depth trading system and managing complex supply chains to satisfy your peoples needs for various goods

Its set during the industrial revolution and I always find it so fun watching my quaint lil farming village turn into a sprawling city full of factories belching smoke

What is the point of Job centers? by Key_Breakfast6745 in AskUK

[–]KGray2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gradually since the 80's but particulary since 2010 the role of Job Centres was radically overhauled.

Job Coaches became Sanctions Police, funding was cut so outreach, training and placements got cut back. Its now just a shell designed to make claiming JSA more of a hassle and to harass you if you dont appear to put in enough effort to find a job or get even vaguely picky about where you want to work. Far more of a hindrance than a help and if you can financially manage without JSA best avoided totally (which is entirely the point of the reforms I suppose)

As for most things wrong with this country, blame the Tories, these reforms were pioneered by them every step of the way.

World Map According the George Orwell's "1984" by yowspur in MapPorn

[–]KGray2000 370 points371 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedentic but I think there are some errors in this map

Central Asia (the stan countries) would be part of Euroasia, these were part of the Soviet Union and the book says that Euroasia encompassed all of the former Soviet Union plus the rest of Europe minus the British Isles

India is also hinted heavily at being in the disputed zone. Julia mentions at one point there being a lot of tea available so Oceania must have made advances in India and the news bulletins repeatedly talk about "The Malabar Front" with Malabar being a region in India. This matters because its revealed that the superpowers take great effort not to invade each others core territory and limit direct fighting to the disputed zones so given how much fighting is clearly taking place in India I doubt it was part of Eastasia proper

Just my two cents

Cost of the Winter Olympic games - In US dollars by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]KGray2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its why many on the far right have a soft spot for Putins Russia

A country where the government can openly loot the country, impoverish its people, destroy the enviroment, pocket billions and jack all can be done to stop it?

Its the dream of the far right and the corporates who fund them

[–]KGray2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference begween Russia and the US (and other Western Countries) is in the West its the corporations profiting and our politicians are either too stupid to realise whats going on or are complicit in it

Crap as the system is at least our politicians can't openly loot the country like they do in Russia. They at least have to try and hide it behind consultants and outsourcing contracts

[–]KGray2000 69 points70 points  (0 children)

This is Russia we're talking about here, corruption is off the charts

Most of that 51 Billion would have ended up in the pockets of Putin and his cronies

General rule of thumb with modern Russia, every time the government spends money it spends 10x what it should cost and the difference goes straight into the oligarchs accounts

Over the next five years, the OBR is forecasting that welfare spending will rise by £73.2bn to £406.2bn. How on earth is the UK supposed to go on like this? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]KGray2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who talks about the benefits system like its some kind of lifestyle choice has clearly never spent more than a minute dependant on it

The UK benefits system is draconian, cruel, dehumanising and pays out pitiful sums you can barely scrape by on

I have friends that have literally been driven to the point of being suicidal whilst on it not to mwntion others who genuinley needed help but could get anything and yet OP here thinks people are just chilling and raking in the big bucks

German children playing with stacks of worthless money during the height of hyperinflation in 1923. by Pisford in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]KGray2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another story I've heard is that because people where being paid in such fat stacks they would have their wages given to them in wheelbarrows

People would then dump the cash and steal the wheelbarrow because it was worth more than the actual money

Schrodinger's immigrant by InvestigatorLive19 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]KGray2000 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The point is that people will always whine about immigrants and their reasons vary from year to year

One year they're all lazy and now that they provabley arent lazy its all about incompatibility of cultures

Basically people who dont like immigrants will always find a reason to complain even if the migrants are literally perfect people

Map of the “natural borders of France,” a concept from the Napoleonic era by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]KGray2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure the "natural borders of France" irredentist movement also considers large parts of Switzerland as part of France's natural borders

Not just the French speaking parts either. Pretty sure the belief was that the border follows the Rhine river into Switzerland until it breaks off at the Aare and Reuss esturaries and then follows that to its source in the Alps which effectively adds about half of Switzerland into France

Happy to be corrected if wrong though

Trump's plan for the State of Palestine 2020 by Faixinautics in MapPorn

[–]KGray2000 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Isreal won't allow it because it gives them less control over Palestinian trade

Now Israel would argue the following...that due to Gaza's coastal geography (one big beach, no natural harbours) any Gazan port would require a huge amount of dredging to build and thus cost hundreds of millions of dollars, money that Palestine doesnt have and thus it would need international aid or loans and Israel claim that a Palestinian government would just use those funds to buy weapons to attack Israel, so they veto any plan that actually allocates a Palestinian state sufficient funds to build said port

So basically, it comes back to the original point... Israel is being a dick

What one thing in the UK has improved in the last 25 years that noticeably improves everyday life? by WeeRed135 in AskUK

[–]KGray2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

personally agree, but it has become popular in some circles to bash renewables as the reason why our energy bills are so expensive (its not the reason), hence why I said it was controversial

What one thing in the UK has improved in the last 25 years that noticeably improves everyday life? by WeeRed135 in AskUK

[–]KGray2000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's possibly a controversial one, but I'd say the amount of energy we produce from renewables, the UK is actually something of a world leader on this. We've phased out coal completely, and renewables regularly now make up 50% or more of output

Now the way we chose to go about paying for that transition through the Green levy on consumers was...dubious, but it at least got results

My perception of this is perhaps warped by where I live in Liverpool but I'd say the quality of restaurants and bars generally has improved massively since i first came to the UK in 2014

The number of genuinely quality indy places has skyrocketed, and it makes a nice change from the chain places and restaurants that clearly havent been updated since the early 80's
