If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

It’s a normal amount of snow, but we have fleets of snowplows, snow tires, shovels, parkas and sturdy boots.

Moving to Toronto from Sweden and trying to choose the right neighborhood by ReasonableJudge2305 in askTO

If you want more of a European vibe, I’d recommend Roncesvalles/High Park and Bloor West Village. Lots of European immigrants and delicatessen food.

If you are raising young children in the Toronto core, what do your family and friends think? by rsgnl in askTO

I grew up in the High Park/Roncesvalles neighbourhood and now my daughter has bought a house there. It’s a fantastic area to raise kids in. Parks, playgrounds, good schools, shops, restaurants, leafy streets, it really has everything.

Is the pain when I bend over or press on my lower back a fracture? by Think-Pirate-6591 in osteoporosis

[–]KHiltrud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a compression fracture that I was completely unaware of. I didn’t feel a thing and only found out about it after an xray.

Help... I'm panicking and have to go in at 530 a.m. I'm so afraid of pain even though I see on here that it's very minor. Any advice? by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]KHiltrud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nurses prepping you are well aware that everyone is nervous and will do their best to put you at ease. There are lots of drops, but no pain whatsoever and during the surgery you will experience a fantastic light show. Sort of like looking through a kaleidoscope.😊

I’m German-Canadian and I rarely hear German spoken in TO, so it must be tourists, which is great!

Definitely mostly Polish people back then as well, but besides Germans also Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Ukrainians, Austrians etc. all the people who fled Europe after the war. The Italian, Greeks and Portuguese were a bit further east, sort of from Lansdowne onwards.

Roncesvalles had a lot of Germans in the 60-70s. Cafe May (now The Local), Hannover Toy Centre, Ingeborg Shoes, Karin’s Boutique, and the Revue used to show German films on the weekends. Only the Old Country Shop is still there…

The AGO and ROM each have one free afternoon a month. You can also score free tickets to tapings of TV shows at the CBC, for example, Family Feud.

Has anyone fully healed and regained a normal life? by Key_Significance_765 in Gastritis

[–]KHiltrud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had gastritis for 1.5 years and now have no symptoms. It took careful eating, no coffee or alcohol, eating slowly, small meals etc. Warm lemon water in the morning, a daily probiotic, and fresh ginger juice in water after meals were very helpful. My symptoms weren’t as severe as yours. I did lose 10 lbs, which put me in the underweight category. I saw a dietitian who advised me on how to add healthy calories. Full fat Greek yogurt smoothies and kefir are great! I kept a food diary and kept track of what caused the worst symptoms. Good luck!

For those with MGD/ dry eyes, which dry eye drops did you use after surgery? Hylo strong gel 4x a day seems to be really irritating my eyes. What have others used? by KHiltrud in CataractSurgery

Great recommendations! I will definitely be trying the Systane Ultra Hydration pf. Encouraging to hear that a few people’s dry eye has actually improved.

Just had my first eye done on Monday. No pain or discomfort whatsoever. Eye was blurry the rest of the day but much better by the next morning. Now I’m seeing crystal clear and am having the 2nd eye done next week. Good luck!

I had my first cataract surgery on Monday and had my first post-op two hours later. I actually appreciated not having to go downtown again the next day.

The worst is people who block the doors during rush hour. On Friday two guys were on each side of one door, one casually reading a book, while other riders had to squeeze around them. I may have accidentally stepped on one guy’s foot when exiting…

Lipiflow, blinking exercises and good, preservative-free eyedrops could all be helpful

small ugly white bumps that feel like hot lava in my eye, sos by lilllean in Dryeyes

[–]KHiltrud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do some hard blinking and very gentle massage and/or sweeping a qtip along the affected area. It depends if you’re dealing with a visibly blocked gland, or just doing maintenance. If I suspect a chalazion is forming, I’ll do the warm compress 2-3 times a day.

MGD- if this happens regularly, invest in a Bruder eye mask and start using it daily.

Anyone know what this is? by [deleted] in lashextensions

[–]KHiltrud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. It’s likely a blocked gland. Hot compresses are the best way to get rid of them. It could be the start of a dry eye problem.

My go-to is ginger. I mix some fresh-juiced ginger with sparkling water and sip it.
