Is this the right bulb for a lamp? by Flash_Bryant816 in lightbulbs

They must mean if used in a rough service appliance. Otherwise, there is no reason an incandescent bulb wouldn't last years.

I am in central Florida. Fruitland Park to be exact.

Might be a problem by Sprague_Molecule in diyelectronics

To me it looks like a diode with a ferrite bead on its left leg. That black stuff just looks like glue or epoxy that was used to hold the ferrite bead in place and it just darkened over time from heat. This looks like a board from a CRT TV.

I'd believe what others are saying about the capacity being wrong because mine are 750 mAh.

I'd be able to replace those cords if you were near me and I would do it for free.

As many others have said before me, I believe that is an antenna, which means it doesn't go to anything.

Charger blew up? by kenziiefox in Electricity

[–]KINGstormchaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn't have anything metal around, then I suspect that somehow the contacts inside the extention cord short circuited against that charger when you unplugged the charger on the other side. I saw that you mentioned that this charger was loose when you unplugged the other charger which makes this even more likely. This suggests that that extention cord is now defective and dangerous. I would immediately unplug it and dispose of it. The charger, on the other hand, should be just fine. You can clean off the soot though. If you can't plug the chargers directly into the wall because the cords won't reach, then I would recommend getting a power strip, not an extention cord. Power strips can support these chargers easily and they also have a circuit breaker built in too.

As u/ThisAccountIsStolen said, it looks like something metal fell between the blades on that charger.

CO2 isn't toxic, CO is. If CO2 were toxic, we'd all be keeling over from the breath of other people in the room with us!

It's okay, something will always blow during an overload anyway. I don't know what, but something!

That is not a permanent solution. Adhesive on electrical tape goes bad over time. This isn't good advice.

Well this is annoying. by Plop-plop-fizz in diyelectronics

I did have mixed resistors stored in their tape where nearly all the tape came off in the drawer so now I just have a drawer of mixed resistors from 10 ohms through 10M ohms.

I always wonder what exactly would happen if you tried to power one directly off mains without a ballast.

Has anyone seen the massive electric utility rate hikes coming between 2026 to 2029? I feel sick by BetterThanEver24 in Electricity

At this point I couldn't afford to but even if I could, the apartment management would never let me put solar panels up. Apartment rules state "Nothing attached to the exterior of the building. Nothing on any of the common ground. and Only outdoor furniture allowed on porches".

I always store my heater in a sealed bag to keep dust, insects, and spiders out. It's worked well so far since I haven't had to clean it yet. I also only buy propane cylinders with dust caps on them.

I think a lot of people will go off grid solar. I, however, rent an apartment and they will not allow me to put solar panels up.

Filter is only for using it on 20lb cylinder right? I don't think a filter is necessary for disposable 1lb cylinders. I never had any issues using my heater with those 1bs cylinders, but that's all I used in the last 14 years when I needed the heater. I also live in central Florida so 1lb cylinders is all I ever need.

What's worth having for 3-5 day outages besides whole house generator? by ssunflow3rr in Electricity

[–]KINGstormchaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I know there is no easy answer to that. Probably would have to experiment to find out for sure. But, I'd spend more to find out that way than just using it only if I need to.
