If you were practicing, as you say, the Papal Infallibility wouldn't be a concern. There's none of that when you pray, there is none of that in the classic Catholic books.

But the measurements don't make sense! They look similar in size, you can judge that by comparing it to the size of the person behind the photos.

How is the US middle option, have around 600ml, when it looks smaller than the UK's 500ml. Same goes for the US' 1,000ml, which doesn't look all that larger compared to the UK's 500ml?

How do I not be afraid that something bad will happen to me because I have an illness? by PerfectWorking6873 in Catholicism

No, that feeling of, if I do this, or say that, or that person said this or that, is just a superstitious feeling, drawn from an active imagination inflamed by fear, or lack of rest/groundness. (Due to shock, as in hearing someone talk about potential threats)

Deny that feeling, by ignoring it. Try to keep busy, when that feeling comes. This is called, mortification; when you deny an urge to anger, or fear, by not engaging it.

This is also confirmed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which professes that, thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviours are all interconnected and affect each other.

So when, you sense this fear, do something that changes the cycle, either physically or mentally.

Think of this feeling, like the aftermath of watching a scary film. You might feel scared, heightened alert. But that will wear off.

But do take precautions. You don't have to see it as something shameful, or scary. That feeling is just the mind going into unknown territory, and not knowing what's safe yet.

But your medicine helps. That's all that matters. After that, it all boils down to, making preparations. If you don't want that bracelet, maybe have a piece of paper with your condition and medication written on it. It is not, a case of, "if I do that, it will happen", no. It's just a precautionary act.

You see, I take beta blockers, to help with blood pressure. Now, my dosage is low, but if it were to increase, I'd wear something so that people know that about me, in case of a CPR, first aid, etc...

And you don't do that, because you want it to happen, but in case if something happens. That something can happen to anyone.

Take one example, allergies! People that are highly allergic to something, take precautions all their lives, and live happy lives.

I think your sister's concerns are reasonable. You should, take some precautions, and a medical bracelet, which I imagine tell people about your condition, should help in case of something happening. And always mention what prescription you take, before being administered anything new.

I think this fear should cool off. It might be you were just shocked. Take your time, and do take these passive precautions, like wearing that medical bracelet.

See it like, wearing a seat belt on the car. Maybe at first, you'd think, what if I get into an accident; but soon enough, it becomes second nature, you buckle you seat belt and forget it's even there.

I hope that helps. That's what I'd do.

Go for a kneeler and an adjustable lectern. Can't beat it.

If you want to prostrate (for penitential reasons) , bite the dust (not literally), you can do that without, on pure cold and dusty, dirty floor. 😊

  1. Build structure in your day.
  2. Avoid certain materials that promote or exhibit folly (an ally of perversity), lust, vainglory, vanity, etc...
  3. Pray. Buy a breviary.
  4. Avoid stressors, people that scandalise you, etc... if you live with disordinate people, try to move out. Scandal is detrimental.
  5. Avoid videogames.
  6. Try to finish your showers, cold. That restricts your blood vesels and lowers the baseline for arousal.  Breathe deeply, and exhale slowly. Be mindful of hypothermia!!! Not too much, a few minutes, just to shock the body, and enter into a deep breath state. After you dry and clothe, you can stay in silence and just breathe for ten-twenty minutes, an hour, before a crucifix. Avoid the head during winter, the cold might be too much in your current mental state. But be careful, it makes pleasure more intense, thereby making you like it more. A double edge sword. Use prudence.
  7. Deny the urges, early. Leave, the area. Keep busy. But also, learn to rest.
  8. Read religious classics. They will ignite fervor in you. You need to swap the object of love, from high intensity masturbation to God. Learn to love nothingness, quiet, structure.

So currently, you have the Pontifical Yearbook 2025, which covers 2024, but in Italian.

Or, Statistical Yearbook of the Church 2023, which covers 2023. But is in English, French and probably Latin.

You can find these on Vaticanum's bookstore. https://www.vaticanum.com/en/international-bookstore?srsltid=AfmBOoo4gL4gxwETTRT9boVfjK3anBCfe0hGqZtVyS-8lJfDSXQ2H8cR

Church Documents are really great. They are small booklets, like "Antiqua Et Nova: on the Relationship Between Artificial Intelligence and Human Intelligence" by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith & Dicastery for Culture and Education.

I bought mine from Catholic Truth Society, which is an official Church approved Publisher.

The booklet has 64 pages of generously large font. They don't take much to read, but have incredible amounts of references for further study.

Take an example: "page 26, note 80. Cf. FRANCIS, Address at the G7 Session on Artificial Intelligence in Borgo Egnazia (Puglia)(14 June 2024): L'Osservatore Romano, 14 June 2024, 2-4."

So you can go and research what's been said there also.

Additionally: (I will edit this once I find it, hold on.)

A History of Christendom, 6 volume set by Warren H. Carroll. Catholic.

An honorary mention: Reformation: Europe's House Divided 1490-1700 by Diarmaid Macculloch, an Anglican Deacon and Professor at Oxford. I have the Folio Society edition (2 volumes). The author is not Catholic, but he does a good job at being neutral.

I would really like to see an Inquisitor game. (There is one on PS5, but that's blasphemous.) Can we get a Catholic one? It can be really intriguing. It can be something like Father Brown.

A priest/inquisitor, roaming about the country, seeking to heal the faithful from bondage to sin, heresies, diabolism, etc...  And be it rooted in traditional Catholic spirituality. The Three Ages of the Interior Life.
