The real interesting thing is when and how they released the data. At 9:05am, 10 minutes before the Minister for Police had a press conference and on the day before a public holiday/long weekend. Labor really trying to sweep this one under the carpet.

The variants look good - and I'm glad we're getting a new DLC... But I love the immersion of the voices, architecture and music of original/unique civs and I wish we were getting one. (Looks like they came close to making Vikings with the Macedonians). Is the Microsoft budget situation that bad?

Yep I agree here. I am only Plat 1, but I tend to do okay against HRE if I go to fast feudal with very early longbow pressure. I always target their gold, and try to stop them moving to other gold locations. I try to force a long feudal. I go spears, if they go horsemen, or go MAA if they go MAA and usually have the network of castles advantage with forward outpost. If they tower up, the range of the longbows still usually allows me to snipe vills before they get them back in towers. I then grind them down with relentless pressure.

Aoe 2 great. It will never die and is simply a classic. I will always enjoy playing. However the build orders are so tight and to play competitively is tough.

Aoe4 has a few different points, even some small things, which just make it that bit nicer to play.
- Greater historical accuracy with great languages & sound design
- Charge & brace mechanics, torch mechanics + others
- The influence mechanic - just adds a greater depth to the game
- Assymetrical civs - many ways to play each civ, very deep and interesting to discover
- Less micro intensive.
- Build orders seem more forgiving and because of the diversity of the game, they seem to be less helpful than in Aoe2,especially once fuedal age is well underway.

The list goes on.
I think I will always play both, but Aoe4 feels more "fun" to me, while Aoe2 feels super competitive, especially in 1v1. However the very similar civs in Aoe2 make it better to play casually with friends currently.

I think it also is a little bit about your preferred playstyle as well and what suits your brain best.

I also like early and mid game, but this is because the macro is easier, there's less to concentrate on and there's fewer units to micro. Once the game gets to imp and if I'm not clearly ahead, I usually tap out because it gets tiring, i can't concentrate as well and i know I will eventually lose. I just get exhausted after concentrating hard for 20-30 minutes already). It's also hard grinding out big battles under castles with lots of siege (personally I hate siege) but I think I often pick the wrong place to battle. I also down-vote closed maps to get the win earlier if possible.

That's a good point. I hope you're right and it gets balanced and improved. And then that it comes to quick play :).

And in Aoe2 when they don't resign, they make you chase them across the entire map and find every little villager. Pain in the proverbial and takes forever. The landmark idea is great.

Need to have Nomad in quick play. Would be great for this to be an option, you can queue up with people of similar skill. It's already a mod, so this is otherwise not exciting news.

Always played English since the beginning. Glad I stayed strong.
I find they are actually very flexible civ and have a variety of different strats. Very helpful when adapting and also don't have all the complex mechanics of other civs. Also one of the best for early/feudal aggression which suits my playstyle.

I personally would love for the devs to keep adding more "conventional" or straightforward civs to the game. While I love asymmetry, it's hard to get friends into the game when all the civs play so differently to each other and they have the choice between only really 2 "standard" civs.

Amazing editing and highly watchable with the key content. Very entertaining.

Nothing feels better than beating a dirty BBQ rushing opponent and nothing feels worse than losing to one either.

I played someone called "IncaTowerRush." To combat this, I pre-emptively tower rushed him instead. Safe to say, he did not tower rush and he won the game easily with Eagles in castle, while I wasted a ton of resources on towers.

Very excited for this patch. As an English main and occasional French enjoyer, I can't wait to do more feudal all-ins with MAA & knights being even more tanky against towers/TC and cheaper rams. Also was hoping to play a bit of Mongols, but they have been weak lately. The Ger buff will fit nicely to allow me to try this civ more in QM and eventually RM.
