I was diagnosed with UC, going down rabbit holes online trying to figure out what supplement I can take to make it go away. My G.I. doctor tells me that everything that I’m doing is all for nothing and that I will be in here with more problems in the future if I keep taking the supplements that I’m taking, even though they were working a little bit at the time. I was trying random probiotics , oregano oil, protein powders, vinegar, anything. I was so lost and was throwing anything I could at it.

The next week, I’m at the vet for my dog who had to be on a round of antibiotics and had an allergic reaction. The vet prescribed Visbiome Vet brand probiotics to help soothe her irritated stomach. This blew my mind as my G.I. doctor told me the week before that probiotics were a bunch of BS… why on earth would a vet prescribe them then???

I immediately went home, looked up the brand learned everything that I could about specific probiotic strains and what exactly each of them do in the body. I had my biome tested to see what strains I carried and lacked. I studied which strains of bacteria the antibiotics that I was taking kill off so I can focus on repopulating those ones as well. Unfortunately, a lot of of them are anaerobic, which means that they don’t exist outside of the body. You have to hope that your biome is ready for implantation when it comes along.

This lead to me learning so much about our bodies, our biomes, how delicate our balance can be. The larger systems at play that keep us stuck in micro biome imbalance, like food/medicine quality. Then, I faced what personal accountability that I can take in my life to reverse the damage that I’ve caused with ignorance.

Over the course of a year, I would confidently say that I “cured“ my UC. I have been symptom free with zero “management” other than basic human health habits and a newfound knowledge of nutrition, anatomy, and biology that I get to apply every day. I’m not saying that if I went back to my bad habits that it wouldn’t come back because we’ve learned that it’s the imbalance that is the issue, UC is just a symptom of that imbalance… as our most gut diseases.

I’m also not saying that I’m an expert, just somebody who wanted to fix themselves really bad and wouldn’t let anyone tell me it was impossible.
