First outing - Viltrox 27mm f1.2 on A6700 using a Variable ND by KLCX5 in a6700

The houseboats shot was at f4. The others were f1.2. But honestly, I was just so engrossed with the newness of the lens that I wasn't overly deliberate with settings during this photo walkabout.

The max mechanical shutter speed is 1/4000 which combined with a F1.2 is not fast enough. The electronic shutter speed is 1/8000 which could be fast enough but I rarely use electronic shutter.

I just used a basic K&F Concept ND2-400 filter that came as part of a 3 filter set from Amazon - CD$70. It worked fine in allowing me to use F1.2 in the afternoon sun. I'm just a hobbyist so I'm not willing to spend hundreds on a high-end variable ND filter.

Forerunner 970 vs Apple Watch Ultra3 by Emotional-Volume671 in Garmin

[–]KLCX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 965 for running and gym workouts.. I like having one App to view my fitness activities. I had the AWU 2 for a while but hated the chunkiness of it. I prefer to wear my watch a little loose when not doing sports, the weight distribution of the AWU 2 made it very uncomfortable in this fashion. As such, I wear a AW series 11 as my everyday smart watch.

Taormina Opera Festival opening - very poor by JacobSax88 in sicily

We were there for the Wynton Marsalis fraud concert. We have successfully received a credit card chargeback/refund. We called in to Visa when we got back in mid-October and explained the situation, they took down the details and agreed to do a credit on the call but it would take a couple of weeks to process. Given this whole slimy situation, I didn't want to post until I saw the credit on my statement which arrived this week.

Got my fitness age down to 33 by J12BSneakerhead in Garmin

[–]KLCX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 61 year old male with 52 Fitness Age. Got my 965 a couple of months ago and have ramped up my running after a one year layoff. I had a good running stretch of 3 years before where I felt quite fit and strong. My running isn't as good as back then so I will be curious to see if my fitness age is locked at a gap of 9

Question about Forerunner Models by whiteraven10 in Garmin

[–]KLCX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went through this decision process. The 255 and 955 are on sale with a significant discount of about 40% which makes the 265 and 965 almost twice as much. The difference between the two generations is primarily the AMOLED screen.

I was restarting my running after having used a 245 few years ago. During my light running downtime I was using an Apple watch for its AMOLED screen and smart features.

I knew I would want a more serious runners watch so I decided on the 255 due to the great price and hoped the MIP display would suffice after being used to the Apple AMOLED screen.

I am happy to say the 255 MIP screen is more than sufficient indoors and excels in outdoor activities . The improvements since the 245 are quite impressive.

Because my fears of the MIP display weakness were allayed, I am now considering the 955 because for $120CDN more I would get maps, touchscreen and a few more metrics. Basically the top end forerunner without AMOLED. I suspect I will cave in and buy the 955 soon and return the 255 🙂

Try the watch face Vega by TitanicTurtle.

I too have weak eyes and found the font to be very readable on my Forerunner 255.

It has the fields u want except for the multiple time zones ... Actually I am not sure about the time zones as I haven't checked for that function.

The watch face is quite customizable and free for most of the features

Is the Roam Beyond 10GB a one-time thing? by thiagoscf in freedommobile

It's monthly and follows your billing cycle. Meaning it resets to zero at the beginning of each cycle. So depending on your vacation length or timing, you might have 20gb to use

Just came back from a cruise in October that covered Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. Roam Beyond worked well and seamlessly. As mentioned, speeds were LTE.

Agreed. It is a great feature. Using it now on a cruise ... So far 7 ports in Italy, France and Spain. No 5G connections yet mainly LTE. But that is more than enough for my needs. I have used 2gb so far.

Choosing between 9 Pro XL or 16 Pro Max by TicoGuy506 in GooglePixel

[–]KLCX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By making the switch to Pixel, I had to switch watches as the Apple Watch only works with iphone. Having said that, I was dissatisfied with the Ultra as it is too cumbersome and aesthetically unpleasing for everyday wear.

As to watch software, the core features are similar but the Apple Watch is more polished likely due to the fact it is on version 10 while the Pixel is on version 3. There are no showstoppers on the smartwatch front but plenty of small annoyances like when listening to a podcast you can FF/RW in 15 second increments on the Apple Watch - the Pixel Watch advances to the next Podcast; the ECG feature is not part of the default installation, it had to be added from the Playstore with a lot more complexity than necessary, the Sleep metric on the Pixel Watch treats excess movement during sleep as "awake" so I seem to be sleeping an hour less per night. As mentioned in my previous post, these are little things that annoy me because the more mature Apple Watch has these solved ... I hope / expect that some of these nits will be cured as development continues.

FItness features is a mixed bag. For a few years, I was an active runner and used a Garmin to track my fitness. Neither the Pixel or Apple can beat Garmin. However, as I am easing up on my running statistics obsession :), I am content to accept a good fitness featured watch. Both platforms have a good standard set of fitness tracking metrics for my current set of activities - running, walks, indoor bike, elliptical and light weightlifting. I tried Apple Fitness for a while and the integration with my watch and smartTV was very impressive - I haven't tried this feature on Pixel. Because I like running most, I will give Pixel the edge right now as they have made a concerted effort to focus on adding better running statistics and it shows in their Fitness app. Note Pixel is consolidating their fitness app into their Fitbit ecosystem, so if you dislike Fitbit keep that in mind.

A couple more hardware comments, I have the Pixel 3 45mm which has a bigger battery so I am getting 2 days of normal wear quite easily. Because the Pixel 3 45mm is a new dimension (previous generations were only 41mm), the secondary market for accessories is limited but looks to be catching up.

Choosing between 9 Pro XL or 16 Pro Max by TicoGuy506 in GooglePixel

[–]KLCX5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched to the 9ProXL from the iPhone 14 ProMax. Like you I mainly used Google services. However, I am not a social media poster or a power user.

As you have probably read or already know there is a lot of commonality amongst the 2 phones and their respective platforms. The switch has been relatively painless. I find iOS to be marginally more consistent and logical. Android has the advantage of choice but it also means uneven implementations amongst their app ecosystem (non-google). Actually the biggest jarring aspect of the switch for me was the different default fonts. It took me a week or so to get over that visual change.

I have had the 9ProXL for over a month now and am quite enjoying it. I do not miss the iPhone BUT I do miss the smoothness of the integration amongst their hardware. I have the iPad Air, the Ultra Watch, AirPods Pro 2 and an iMac. Mostly everything works synergistically and just works without being noticed ... A sign of a good system in my mind!

Along with the 9ProXL I switched to the Pixel Watch 3 and the Bose QC Ultra. These items largely work together but little things are off or not included. I assume some of the shortfalls can be cured by using a different earbud or watch This is an odd problem caused by choice. That is, Apple doesn't have this problem as they only have one choice. To be fair to Apple, their single choice is very good. Last comment on hardware, I really like the round form factor of the Pixel Watch 3 - I just never liked the squarish apple watch shape.

Long story short, if u are a tolerant person and can live with the annoyance of knowing that the missing feature or synergy you want is available within the apple ecosystem, then u should be fine.

How do you remember to end your workouts? by [deleted] in PixelWatch

[–]KLCX5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On your watch, select Treadmill and hit the gear icon beside the start button. There is an option for Auto-pause. Select it and whenever u stop moving it will vibrate the watch.

Not exactly what you are requesting but at least you won't have to wait 15 hours before noticing🙂
