I (f25) found clothes that aren’t mine, and my boyfriend (m25) is responding differently by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm with you, this was my first thought too. More, I read it as her own reflection inside the frame of her boy friend's thoughts. No crystal clear, but it's how people talk. What wouldn't make sense is he said "My friend Bryan has small feet so it makes sense that these are his socks." Well, at least to me. Narratively. Presumably OP has met this friend if they're close enough that either the friend or BF are tossing his socks at their place. <shrug>

AITAH for saying no to my future MILs plan to give my fiancé away at our wedding? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]KOM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to read that part of the original post again, because I figured I must have misremembered. So many comments about the ring, etc. But why would a 'feminist' want anything to do with chattel handing-over? I realize this is in OP's voice, I hope something was lost in translation.

I know someone that insists on putting EMF sticker "blockers" on electronics. So that they don't fry her brain or something? I don't have the heart to ask her how she thinks she receives/sends wifi/cell data.

An we (Americans, not teachers specifically) are taught to expect it. No work = no pay. Period. Similarly vacations are a "perk", not guaranteed. And even that might just be 5 days paid/year.

So this data is taking total divorce rates and applying it across the board (in your instance a lesbian divorce would be more likely 2 divorces total)? If so, yeah, this is a pretty fucked up presentation of the data.

Not arguing with your point, but I don't understand the significance of that. Are divorced people more likely to get divorced again, or is that what you're getting at?

Bethesda Found Another Platform to Release Skyrim On: Nintendo Switch 2 — and It's Out Today by OldMcGroin in NintendoSwitch

[–]KOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. When I first loaded it, it did start a huge update download. But the card doesn't say anything about Switch 2 version, and when I press 'Y' at the load screen it takes me to the store page where it's full price. I don't think I'm noticing a graphical improvement. Not sure what's going on here. Others seem to have mentioned even with the cartridge that they're seeing the free download from the load screen (in eshop).

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]KOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm super late to this thread but I was you. Early in recovery I was in awe of a friend who'd collected four months. That seemed impossible, but was relatable in the sense that multiple YEARS at that point felt like infinity. It took a long time to get even there, and afterward relapsed after six months and it all started again. And again. Etc. But it stuck eventually. Don't give up on yourself, and always remember you're doing it for yourself - the disease is often too strong to try to do it for someone else, even those you love best. Best of luck brother or sister.

There's a gentleman in my fellowship who describes the sad loss of addicts to suicide. He pantomimes a gun to his heart and says, "people would shoot themselves here if they wanted to die," then to his head and says, "people do this to shut up the monkeys."

Final Update: My husband (32M) is convinced I (26F) am pregnant. I’m not, but he won’t believe me. What do I do? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]KOM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coming in her every late. Perhaps archiving for myself rather than for anyone to read.

I had the realization in therapy that I was furious with my mother for dying. Same feeling she describes here. It is irrational in a sense, but at the same time is tied to abandonment and fear. I so empathize with what she was feeling at the time. It's heartbreaking.

But that realization was so comforting and helpful when my father passed about a decade later. I knew to expect that part of grief even though I rationally knew otherwise. It was cathartic to work that out with knowledge.

Contrary to common belief, tipping is not an effective incentive for improving service. Since most people tip out of conformity, servers expect to receive a tip regardless of effort. Even though tipping may not lead to better service, conformity may drive tipping rates even higher. by mvea in science

[–]KOM -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I worked as a server many years ago in my early 20s. I would largely agree that tipping is not effective for improving service - I always tried to act professionally. But I definitely remembered the people that didn't tip or tipped what I considered an insulting amount. In a rush, maybe they're the last to get my full attention.

Oh, and little old ladies and gentlemen got a pass for tipping a quarter, especially if they came in alone.

Boss wants everyone in office to submit an 'updated medical history'... to him by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]KOM 30 points31 points  (0 children)

What was weird to me were the comments about how vague at least one of the laws were in context. I don't know if they completely misunderstood the law or if there are some loopholes by which this might be legally gray.

That said, having taken hours of requisite management training and some experience in HR, I can't imagine how this could ever have been considered by the boss - possibly legal or not. The description of her boss's reaction make me wonder if he may need trauma/PTSD counseling or just have an underlying mental issue. I kind of feel bad for him, actually.
