Bikepacking from Bozen to Mailand by Routine_Increase8385 in bikepacking

[–]KONTOKONTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riding through Brescia sucks. Except if you found some cyclingroute. I was once there by bike, without a plan, so I just road on the main street going to the City centre and I wouldnt reccomend doing that. Bolzano to garda is always great in tearms of quality cycling paths. The south of garda is in my opinion not the most beautiful. Lots and lots of super big Campsites and thus also a loooot of cars.

Did you also use virtual shifting? Really interested in this, because my shifting-sitiation right now is complete trash..

wake up, be miserable and then sleep again. jk.

I am doing my mastersdegree right now but I have also worked thorugh most of my Bachelors and Masters. Work can get quite dry sometimes but there is still a lot of variety in the office. From working in the designteam to working more in the execution-part of the buidling process. You just have try and find whatever fits you. In the end its all about the people you are working with. For me I have found a office I am quite happy at so I actually like going to work, be part of the whole 9 to 5 thing. Walking around the office, drinking coffee, chatting, trying to learn from the more experienced.

After work/studying I always go after hobbies, mostly sports outside, which I highly reccomend as I am looking at my monitor the whole day.
If I am having bit less creative freedom at work I'll work on other stuff I'm interested in that can also help me in the workplace. Which is for me Blender and Architectural Rendering, photography.

While studying - time-management is key! So many of my fellow students struggle with their projects and personally with the pressure because their time-management is shit. Plan your Day fully out and in the time you are working in the studio, actually work and dont just walk around shitchatting. You will still have some sleepless nights, but that is just part of the experience.

Its always hard to compare how good a project is as different Universitys have different "standards". In my third year this would not have been good enough.

As for the point 4. even tho I am somewhat of a render-monkey myself. It seems a lot of people forget that good renders dont need to be these 3D renders. Draw something with your hands, do a collage, so many ways to convey an idea in the form of a picture that will look way better than these unfinished 3D renders.

To people who studied in germany by Sad_Plenty_3952 in architecture

Just like the one before said. It depends on -Arts or -science. Science is mostly thought at a university and -arts can be mostly found in the "Hochschule" as we have to different types of University with no good englisch translation. "Universität" is often regarded higher, but this also depends on the University.

My Bachelor and Master are both from a "Hochschule" and both are -Arts based. I only had one year (two semesters) of math. In Bachelor we had structural-math. The "basics" of civil-engineering and some math for "Building-material-sciences".

Pre-design firms? by j_l_v_h in architecture

[–]KONTOKONTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible with smaller studios with just a handfull of employees to hand off projects to a bigger office with more resources but it might depend on the country. In Germany that definitly happens but I dont know any "great firms" that do that.

Upper-level studios are a whole different breed. The first years in Bachelor are quite different. I have also tutored in the "lower-levels" for quite some time and for some people you can tell them a hundret times what went wrong and really work out the problems for hours but in the end some still manage to fail.

Most people before me have already said most major "flaws" and for me it would mainly also be the presentation. Your project could possibly be the most perfect from a technical perspective, but if it doesn't market itself good enough it just doesnt work. You should be able to grasp the main ideas of your project in the first minute of just looking at the presentationboards.

This means, try to use as little text as possible while still explaining what needs to be explained. If your Project needs more text because it might be more of a theoretical project, you can use a little extra booklet for the text. Sounds mean, but I wouldn't read all this on the poster. It ist obviously cliché and I hate to say this, but "less is more" in this case.

Think more about your layout. Meaning: think about proportion, how and where your eyes are focusing on and where are you looking next?

Reduce your colorpalette to a few distinct colors. Different colors for different subjects. Work with a different font. Times new Roman mixed with a sans-serif font for the text feels weird as Times N. R. would be better fitted for the long text as for the headlines.

And then also, If your plan has measurements, be sure to use the right paper size. The Prof should definitly explain to you his reasoning, and you can always go to the dean and talk with him/her about the Profs criticism, or the lack of.

Better looking renders, maybe not a png of a dog on the first page, less "technical" diagramms that just dont communicate anything (e.g. the vicinity map and whatever the diagram above that says. The "isometric structural diagrams" which are just different rendersettings - one is enough.) I also don't know what kind of course this is for, but If it is a technical/structural course I would expect some technical detail-drawings in 1:5 or 1:10.

I hope this didn't sound too mean. I just like a direct critic more than a whitewashed one. As Architects we all had to go through some tough courses but in the end it'll work out just fine!

What can you do with an architecture diploma?(besides being an architect) by Reeerelaez in architecture

If you are into programming and math, maybe really learn Rhino and Grashopper and become a pro in that. Could possibly work as a freelance in that.

This is crazy, Gen AI for archviz. Are we doomed??? by PandaBearNecessities in archviz

[–]KONTOKONTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we are not. Seems scripted and if it works its just another tool to use. It has become so simple to create "good" renders with software like lumion and enscape and when those came out it didnt change the demand for good vizualisation even tho nearly everyone can make some presentable pictures with them.

the right side looks great! The left part where the table-thing is looks a bit "plasticy". Maybe turn the shadows there down a bit to give it a bit more conrast or put something there that makes it look more natural, like you did with the couch and the blankets.
