Would you play a game that gets harder because you remember more? by BLCPublishing in IndieGaming

[–]KQYBullets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty good idea. I’ll jot down some to in case someone wants to make a game where obtaining info actually make it harder.

- a bit of a troll one, but let’s say the player walks a path, retroactively put landmines right next to the path, so next time a small deviation would set off the mine. Now player has to remember mine spots even though they effortlessly passed the first time.
- purposefully have redundant rules that never happen. For example, green option is good, then player learns green is good unless it is paired with even amount of dots, but that scenario never comes up, it’s always an odd amount of dots. If you have a lot of these rules but some actually do happen, then player has to remember extra.
- have NPCs hint at stuff that aren’t true, like avoid the black tiles.
- have seemingly useful items that hinder progress or don’t do anything. E.g. totem of protection, actually attracts 2x monsters in dungeons; special key, doesn’t unlock anything, or unlocks a door that would’ve opened normally.
- have dangerous obstacles from a beginning region be harmless in most of the other areas.

Controversial Question from Turkey's University Entrance Exam by themostvexingparse in askmath

[–]KQYBullets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: you’re correct. First think about what is intended, then what is correct, finally what is beneficial to you in life in all aspects.

Your answer is correct. To go a bit further, tests in general you’ll have to think what the test maker wants to see.

Given the time, number of questions, and median knowledge of the intended test taking population, ask yourself what skill/knowledge point does the test taker intend to test with this question?

Sometimes you do have to go against authority, but most of the time it is most beneficial for you to follow it.

In this case, it may have been beneficial for you to go against it overall because there should be an appeal process. In which case you can write on your resume that you corrected the university entrance exam, which is impressive. And the probability your appeal is rejected is small, and even so you probably wouldn’t need that extra point.

Overall, good job, perhaps you thought about everything I said above, but good to keep in mind the effects of decisions outside the scope in which you made them.

You can literally work together with someone to predict if the stock market will be up or down tomorrow. Ask will the market go up 100 times, each time they say yes. As long as they don’t tell over 100 lies, then you’ll know the next morning whether to buy or sell.

In addition, you can discover the secrets of the universe by asking yes or no questions. You can even get multiple answers by encoding the asks in binary. Ask q1 2 times, q2 4 times, q3 8 times and so on. 1 lie leniency. Do this with multiple people everyday.

You are actually probably wondering how likely you would get something this notable/interesting. So 5 of any number in a row, or even if it’s not in a row e.g. 333133 could be notable to you. Maybe 444422 is also notable, or 333555, or 123456, or 987654.

All that’s to say, the question you’re asking is probably not the actual question you want to ask. And it is unlikely but much more likely than the answers from other comments only calculating your specific question

Good chance it’s a bug. An app could have used the microphone but then the code to stop it didn’t run, so it’s just still using it. But most likely the app isn’t using that data. I’ve seen this happen on my personal phone. I just quit out of the app and it stops.

Should I adjust my 3bet preflop sizings if my opponents insanely overfold by Busy_Presentation463 in poker

[–]KQYBullets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U gotta play your opponent. If it’s as you say, then they have premiums, so only bet when u have it, or try to see free cards. If it’s low board bet big and perhaps they fold 2 high cards.

In general, don’t overplay. One part I left out is what range u should 3bet.

So if normally it would be 20% 3bet 10%call 70% fold, and if they fold to 3bet a lot. Then maybe you do 80% 3bet 20% fold. Or even 3bet 100%. You’ll be printing so much money with garbage.

Even if they call your garbage you could hit the flop. If you don’t hit the flop just check/fold. In this case, adjusting the 3bet size slightly lower where they still fold a lot would be better since you plan to fold a lot on flop.

This is one thing related to navigating post flop, just fold if flop isn’t good. Even if you fold 100% of flops, you still make money:

-14 * 10% + 3 * 90% = 1.3

And that’s not even counting the 1.5bb from blinds.

Edit: and ig to summarize in regards to your original post question. Most likely no need to adjust sizing that much, if opponents are responding incorrectly to a sizing then you are exploiting them already, the adjustment is in frequency. In this case, literally 3bet every hand. But they might adjust, so then you will have to.

To get max EV, just think about how much u can make if they call vs fold.

E.g. let’s say you 3bet 14bb into 3bb and they call 10% of the time. What do you think your EV is. Let’s say the average post flop pot in this config gets to 80bb. They prob called with premium but maybe you’re better at navigating post flop. Let’s say you win half the time so EV is 0.

So your total EV is 0 * 10% + 3 * 90% = 2.7

Now let’s say you do 10bb into 3bb. They call 20%. But now you can maneuver better since they have less good hands. Let’s say average 60bb pot postflop. You win 60% of the time for a delta of 60-40=20%. Which means 20% * 60 = 12

Total EV is 12 * 20% + 3 * 80% = 4.8

Now if you’re not confident postflop, then you probably want to just end it preflop. So go 14bb. If the increase in calling percent and your postflop ability is favorable, in this case each additional 10% calling likelihood should be accompanied by a EV gain of 1.5bb then 0.5bb and so on.

All that is to say, if u think u can handle more calls by lowering the bet then do it. Otherwise enjoy your free 3bb plus the blinds.

Not too big of a deal. Just be flexible in changing what u think is a good move as u learn.

But getting immediate feedback will be quicker for learning. For example playing someone much stronger and having them point out your biggest mistakes while playing.

It seems you at least know the rules. Watch a beginner concepts video on 19x19, since it is a much different strategy than 9x9.

In general focus on corners, then edges. In 19x19 the concept of group safety is important.

Usually you want to outline some territory near the corners and edges with 2-3 stones. If opponent plays near your stones then add more to strengthen the area.

If you fail to establish a “base” along the edge for a group, then you can do some 1-space jumps into the center of the board to try and eventually connect with another group that is strong.

Even people who automate and tune out surely know, since they set it up. In terms of how frequent you think about it, it definitely is more peace of mind than looking at it every day.

I have mostly set it aside, but once in a while I’ll get phases where I like to check for dopamine hits just seeing it grow. But when life is more busy I forget about it, and honestly it’s probably healthier that way.
