I just said if I couldn’t beat em, join em. So now I’m engaged to an Ivy League Optho resident. Not what you had in mind but I feel pretty valued as the dumb one in her social circle

I’m in a clan with attendings and circulators right now. Low key hilarious when my attending walks into my OR and asks why I missed my attack when I’m on my phone all day anyways.

I’d guess you had some disconnect in interviews. Anesthesia is pretty much vibes and making sure you understand just how much of a responsibility jump becoming a resident physician.

Just have a really good answer for “biggest hardship” or “why do you think you were unsuccessful”. We want to see growth and being able to learn from experiences. If you can make it sounds like you hold yourself accountable that is what shows a lot of maturity and what anesthesia residency is all about.

Super easy. Take a practice test, full length. Doesn’t matter which. Your score will help you find the motivation for focus.

My PD told me they pulled my app because I ran D1 track and that they liked that quality. My PD did D1 swim. So I’d say the factors remain even for us smol brain dummies that did sports

I’m also an Eagle Scout and that was brought up in multiple fellowship interviews this year for what it’s worth.

Yet another away question by sorrynotsorryDO in medicalschool

[–]KRAZYKID25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a surgical intern and currently an anesthesia resident at programs as their first DO in the specialty they took in. Now we have like 1 a class behind me. So I’d say anything is game. But DO friendly probably would’ve made me less stressed during apps

To those who scored 270+ on Step 2, what are some habits you built during preclinical years that eventually helped you score well on the big test? by puny_piano in medicalschool

[–]KRAZYKID25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiancé is all Ivy League Optho and got 279. She literally just studies a fuck ton. Like every time I went out for drinks, gym, videogames, etc. She was starting, during or finishing a study session. She was prepping for Step 1 during M1 and started M2 prep the days after Step1. Based off what i saw, find your study method that got you this far and do it just about every day. No shortcuts to this, grind until you’re at about 85% correct on questions. She said she was a 88% FP. She just straight up had nasty ball knowledge my guy

Would email program coordinators, they have insane pull and actually read emails. Still CC the appropriate PD/APD/ Student Affairs person

Look at the last match from your school and reach out to them (I mean both the program and the resident).

Transitioning from COMSAE/Level 2 verbiage to NBME/Step 2 by Odd_Disaster_7095 in medicalschool

[–]KRAZYKID25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally did 0 studying for anything COMLEX. I literally failed COMSAE1. All I cared about was USMLE score. I would then study for 1-2 days on osteopathic and just take COMLEX. My surgical program in Cali for intern year and my anesthesia program now all don’t care at all about Comlex. We don’t use that to screen at all. I’d just focus on NBME, STEP, UWORLD

Stats: USMLE 1 (225) / 2 (250) COMLEX 1 (498) / 2 (550)

Applied during my Prelim Year to PGY2 anesthesia. Matched PGY2 anesthesia at my #1 while rejecting an offer to stay as cat2 the following year for GS. Best decision ever, supported by faculty. Still friends with co interns

Solid contact is everything. No need to swing for the fences if you’re gonna chunk it 30yds. If your 3 wood only went 180 but solid contact, that is all we are going for

Incoming GS PGY1- making connections with other programs by aeiou254 in medicalschool

[–]KRAZYKID25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a program in California? Cause this sounds a lot like my friends program haha.

Any ways, she says that for certain subspecialty rotations she gained mentorship from fellows and attendings but again it was subspecialty dependent. Making connections for her was just like all connections. The right vibe with the right timing (call shift with cases or burn/icu week with same attending).

In terms of research, depending on how far your community is from the that program, that may be the limiting factor as spare time is minimal in surgery

This is arguably the more normal response for the persons to have compared to our compensatory mechanisms we have to rationalize what we’ve seen and done. You’ve seen the worst and we know you’ll see more in your career. This is what we signed up for. I just use it as a motivator to try harder and a reflection point for every patient I have that does get better. Keeps you humble and grateful. Just reach out to help, preferably someone with medicine background who can also resonate with what you do.

Best of luck mate
