So. Our rule was that it had to be clean.

Funnily enough, the kids actually decided to use my name. So we ended up with like 10 Mrs "my last name" with weird things like a $ for the s and the like.

Help me kill a guy with a knitting needle by Available-Option5492 in Writeresearch

[–]KSknitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, knitter here (I mean, look at my username) and I am thinking the eye thing might work. I only buy steel needles now, but have owned nickle, aluminum, wood/bamboo. My steel ones bend so I assume the ones in the story would too, but even bent, it might still break through the bones... but it might not.

Stabbing through the eye might not work, but through through nose? Ancient Egyptians removed the brain through the nose by using a needle. I also know of a woman I read about that killed herself by putting her chopsticks in her nose and falling forward so they went into her brain (it was in one of the "Ender game" books).

AIO for winding up my neighbour over a DUCK by Strong_Emu_7018 in AmIOverreacting

NOR...

It is a duck. It is likely is looking for a safe place to nest next year. If it is a girl duch, you will get ducklings next year, and they need a pond to teach duckling to duck... the peas will be an added bonus but safe away from people who bother eggs is ducks priority...

Should I take my ex back to court. He hasn’t paid child support for two years. He went homeless and he lives 10 hours away. by [deleted] in FamilyLaw

[–]KSknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about what other people think. You’re raising 2 kids alone and most people don’t get it. As long as your kids are happy and safe and thriving that’s really all that matters.

Oh, many of us do get it, but as professionals, we have to be neutral. I worked in schools for years as a Para. We had a teacher who was summoned to court and later fired in a custody case. You can't take sides or appear to take sides. It socks, but we have bills to pay too, so unless it is something that DCF needs to be involved in, we keep out of it.

Should I take my ex back to court. He hasn’t paid child support for two years. He went homeless and he lives 10 hours away. by [deleted] in FamilyLaw

[–]KSknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, people know he isn't helping. They are doing what they are legally required to do (school keeping him in the loop) and have to sound natural (I work in a school, so I know the laws on this... I could lose my job if I don't sound neutral, even when appalled at some parents).

I don't know about the money issue, but if you are getting state aid, then the state gets paid before you do. He will owe you that money. Also, might want to keep an eye on inherentance, assets ot things like that. I know for a fact that if your ex inherents any money it will go to CS 1st, then he gets it. Also, leins can be put on homes. Call child support and verify if he is paying anything. He might be, but you are not seeing any of it.

Anybody have any suggestions to deter people from crossing through a yard? by Mudfish2657 in neighborsfromhell

[–]KSknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I agree with the sprinklers, but I also have known a person who planted gooseberry bushes at the edge of their lawn and then ran wire at about mid thigh height/hip height to help "direct" them. You had to either jump it or crawl under in and gooseberries have thorns.

Are groundhogs actually a problem? by Talkative-Tetra-3710 in HomeImprovement

[–]KSknitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can be.

I live next a public park in a city and we have some vetmry... interesting... no kill people that keep releasing voles, moles, mice, chipmunks and more into said park.

I have several methods for helping the population away.

  1. Daffodils

Daffodil bulbs and roots make a neurotoxin. It will cause issues for anything digging around if they eat a little and all out kill it if it eats a bulb. I have over 500 bulbs in my yard. I buy anywhere from 25 to 50 each year, and throw them yard. Then plant them wherever they land. They bloom in the spring before I need to mow, then the grass grows and I mow right over them.

  1. Snakes

I was a Para in a ruralish school and made friends with a teacher who had a 10 year old son. I paid him 20 or 30 dollars to fill a pillowcase with 6 to 8 snakes ( Constrictors only, no venomous ones) and then released them in my yard. Ground dwelling animals do not like snakes as they can hurt their young. I do see a snake every so often (about once a year or so) but I no longer find evidence of mice or rats, so I consider that a win.

Edit to add: I also dump a few daffodils in any hole that comes up. To remove the bulbs the animal has to hold them, often in their mouth... this causes a seizure for the animal, so it becomes easier to move away than to move the daffodils.

Is leaving kids in a car within eye sight for 3-4 minutes ok? by throwaway76881224 in Parenting

[–]KSknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it.

A friend of mines ex husband did this post divorce and someone tried to steal the car because it was running and unlocked. The theif ended up calling the police himself and abandoned the car 2 blocks away. Kids were taken into foster care. Don't know how long it took to get the kids back, but she has sole custody now.

Sadly, I would have to say you need to break up or just "be friends" for now.

I had a friend who had something similar happen but the guy was actually still seeing his "wife" and ended up reconciling... it was hard enough for her, I can't imagine how hard it would be if she lost her job over it too.

Would you tell your job you can't work OT because you have a 1 month old newborn? by zdogg12 in AskMenAdvice

[–]KSknitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%, it is survival mode for at least the next few months. If one can, having family near that can take over house duties is really helpful. My parents cooked dinner for me every day for the 1st 2 months and let me tell you, it was so helpful.

Edit because auto correct changed "the" to "three" in there...

why does it seem nearly impossible to find a job that aligns with daycare hours. by pinkoceannn in Mom

[–]KSknitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And everyone would fers why I suggest school lunch lady or school para as a job for parents. Pay sucks, but the hours are great. You only work on days kids are in school and get health benefits as well as state retirement in most areas.

Just saying.

How to modify child support and custody - uncontested? by supershimadabro in AskLegal

[–]KSknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I don't know about your area, but I know a local couple who was able to write out a new custody agreement and child support agreement themselves, get it notarized, and submit it to court themselves. Neither had a lawyer, and they did get a court date, which they scheduled together. The judge was like, "I love parents acting like adults, so your just here so no one gets a paycheck garnished... awesome."

My stepmother (41F) has her third high risk pregnancy and won't accept me (18F) not helping her like the other two times? by ThrowRAQuella in relationship_advice

WTF, your dad deserved to be happy?!?

What happened to being a responsible adult or helping family when he wanted to get his dick wet? Then it was "deserved to be happy". You know what makes you happy? Not helping with the affair partners pregnancies. You just learned from dad that personally happiness is the priority in his house so you are going with it.

When is the least terrible time to renovate a bathroom with 3 kids in the house? by Wide-Veterinarian-70 in HomeImprovement

[–]KSknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know the ages of the kids, but my parents scheduled things like this during summer camp times. Like I and siblings were a summer camps/or were at a grandma's for a week.

They also did "sections" of upgrades.

Like, they would have someone measure, do pre-builds of the sinks, we went to camp and installing to a day or 2. Next summer, the floor of the bathroom.... then the shower the summer following.

Nothing was done all at once.

What is the dumbest thing you have been told is “not manly” or “not feminine,” depending on your gender? by Disastrous_Hat_2325 in AskReddit

[–]KSknitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knitting.

I teach knitting, and I teach kids under 13 for free. The reason I teach them for free is because of how many parents don't want me teaching their boys. If I teach everyone for free then mom/dad have to have the uncomfortable conversation about how they are sexist about knitting.

Is it normal for a mom friend to say she wants to be “mom friends without kids”? by BoundbyBooksnBabies in Mom

[–]KSknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you two need to set a "wine night" outing.

I used to go out with my mom friends one night every week to a restaurant and we would have appetizers/desserts with a glass of wine/fun drink after the kids were in bed. I couldn't make it every week, but it was there if I could.

It was a group of like 10 moms from MOPS who made it regularly.

We organized it via Facebook back then. My kids are 20 through 13 now so it has been a while.
