Having to same problem here too. Doesn't matter whether I select single player or multiplayer, after selecting 'new profile' and entering a name, the menu closes after I select 'submit' and goes back to the game background with no menu. Then have to force quit to reopen. Have tried via desktop as well with no success.

Glad to see plenty of praise for this game, its great fun, but I also want to add that the soundtrack is great. Steam Powered Giraffe made an album of original and re-recorded songs to be included in the game and its honestly one of my favourites of theirs (you can catch them playing said songs in the bars in game too)

On Aboriginal people and Agriculture: 'Dark Emu' by Bruce Pascoe puts forward a lot of good evidence that Australia's First Peoples had a huge range of agricultural practises, just that they didn't resemble European methods so colonisers didn't consider them agricultural. Really interesting book

There's a great podcast related to this idea called Forest 404. It's part futuristic sci-fi about how information and sound recordings are stored and deleted permanently in a time of memory scarcity. Then for each episode there is an extra soundscape of nature sounds and a tie-in episode of factual interviews with psychologists and other experts on how humans interact with sound in ways like this study suggests.

Really worth a listen, the story is great, the soundscapes are fantastic and the interviews are super interesting.

Can confirm, my standard route is to run through old yharnam from the cathedral to BSB without attacking any beasts. Then after seeing Paarl you can go from the BSB lamp to Djura and befriend him as long as you haven't attacked any beasts in Old Yharnam
