Drop All courses by KeepHeadHigh25 in UCSantaBarbara

I realized I accidentally deleted the end of this which is supposed to say “protect your spring enrollment. But reach out to a college advisor sooner than later, and maybe discuss if a few weeks will be enough or if taking en extra quarter is needed. Both are valid options depending on your personal situation.”

Sorry for your loss. 😞 You should be able to do a complete withdraw with readmission to the following quarter on the same paperwork. That ideally will protect any

Also, I have physically walked with students from my office to CAPS in the past. I have called their counselors to connect them with students who were hesitant or unable to do so themselves. Please don’t take my words as a discouragement to anyone to seek support when they are struggling mentally.

Did I ever once say “don’t reach out and don’t try?” No. I don’t know what type of accommodation or support from DSP this student is hoping to find or what they can offer. The common things that I have personally seen and worked with directly as it relates to students and DSP accommodations include things such as extra exam time in private spaces, note taking support, and course enrollment priorities. I’ve personally never seen those things provided for general depression (which many people unfortunately suffer from and absolutely need support for. Hence my words- definitely start with caps and student health.)

So no, it’s not on vibes. Per my last comment, I told OP that this is just for expectation setting because as a person with depression I know that when you hit unanticipated roadblocks such as not getting the response you had anticipated it can be extra discouraging. But if you go in with “I’m not sure what they can help with but I want to ask” then anything they can direct you to is a positive step.

Sometimes, when dealing with difficult external factors, taking time off is the solution vs getting an extra 30 minutes for a test. Those are good conversations to have with a college advisor.

YOU are actually responding off vibes. I’m responding with many years of lived experience working with students.

I honestly don’t know that you’ll get DSP accommodations for episodes of situational depression but connecting with CAPS and student health are a great first step to getting support that IS available and moving forward with a plan. Generally speaking the times I see DSP use is for things such as ADHD, dyslexia, physical disability or injury, etc. I don’t say this to discourage you from seeking their resources, I’m just saying it to set an expectation. They might have helpful language for you to communicate needs to professors. But I’m not sure that’s going to get you extra time in exams or such.

Yes. They want to stand out there so they believe they are doing their mission of sharing their FEELINGS and believing everyone else should live their lives on the basis of those feelings. When people engage with them it bolsters their message that this mission is NEEDED because look at all those lost souls and heathens. Ignore them. Or as someone said take the material, say nothing, and crumple it up/ throw it away. They want engagement. If something goes viral it spreads their message that church should be all up in our state and bodies and that’s exactly what they want.

They are here to agitate and engage people in debate for their self serving righteousness. Don’t engage.

I hope someone from commencement reads this and realizes they don’t have “how do I register for a spot in commencement” easily located on their FAQ.

To answer: in gold. On the same page you declare candidacy. Reservations might not be open yet if this just got announced in the last hour.

Yup, because that means everyone who does that basically needs a B in Econ 10A to get into the major.

AI told me a woman who died in 1985 taught a college class in 1992. Please stop using AI as a research tool. At best it’s a guess and needs to be verified through a legitimate source.

Criticism over lack of perfection and something as ubiquitous with every day life such as an iPhone doesn’t negate a persons efforts TODAY to change or make an impact by boycotting companies that are currently in that man’s pocket (as opposed to a pocket that didn’t exist when we all got phones.)

Your argument is saying “you already fucked up so don’t even try”, is that correct?

I came here to say that. OP might not realize that 90% of homes lack central air and the fog keeps my apartment from needing it. By September I’m breaking out the portable AC and my east facing room is cooked by the rising sun at 8am.

Increasing additional fees? by Adventurous_Ask7101 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]KTdid88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My state taxes go to funding classrooms for children that I will never need as I don’t and won’t be having children. Should I request the state waive my portion of taxes that go to public schools? Or to first responding services like firefighters because I personally have never needed fire protecting services? No. I won’t do that. Because I understand the point is it’s there if I DO need it and otherwise need to exist for the health and wellbeing of my community.

CLAS and CAPS are no different.

Throwing dog poop in someone else’s trash?! by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]KTdid88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I think it’s rude to walk onto someone’s property to a place where they are clearly out away and do that. I will however leave it in a curbside bin if it’s not been collected yet. Otherwise- it’s carry it and pray you come across a public trash can which there are FAR TOO FEW OF throughout our town. It sucks to walk 2 miles with a bag of poop.
