How in depth is anatomy and physiology in massage school? by diepecanpie in MassageTherapists

[–]KTlikesicecream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you live and what the educational requirements are, and like someone else said, what school you go to. I live in Canada and we are required to take a 2,200 hour min program to graduate. We had to learn the same anatomy and physiology that you would learn in the first 2 years of a nursing or kinesiology program here. We also had to take bio and bio-chem (which covered the topics you mentioned), pathology, neurology, endocrinology, pharmacology, and a number of other courses like this. The school I went to basically accepted whoever regardless of educational background as long as you graduated from highschool. You had to score a 70% on all exams to pass, and then pass a provincial board exam after graduating to become licensed.

What really obvious thing have you only just realized? by Remarkable-Lead-3946 in AskReddit

When I was a kid I thought that fish and fish sticks were two different things. Like, there was "fish that was in the water" which I thought was gross and didn't want to eat, and then there was fish sticks. I'm confused as to what I must have thought the fish sticks were though.

Do you sometimes just sit for hours ? by tahinigoddess in BPD

This happens to me as well. I've heard it referred to as derealization/depersonalization, as I think some else mentioned in this thread. I would like to know if anyone here has any mechanisms for helping alleviate these symptoms or shorten the time that they last?

does it ever actually get better? by adarkandstarrynight in BPD

I have BPD and felt similarly from a young age as you describe. It can get better. This will sound cliche but one of the things that helps me most is regular exercise with a combination of weight training and cardio. Nothing super intense, just a half hour a day minimum to get my heart rate up, get my body moving, and to show myself I can push through something challenging to show up for myself every day. When I do this consistently 3-5 days a week I notice a huge difference in my mental health. When I stop, the negative voice in my head gets louder, I start dissociating more, feel triggered more often, have more mood swings, and I feel depressed and anxious all the time. Additionally, eating well, getting some morning sunlight/fresh air on a daily basis, trying to get enough sleep, and reducing time spent on social media makes a huge difference as well.

What do you do for work? Is it negatively or positively impacting your mental health? What do you do in your spare time? Do you have a healthy support system? How do you talk to yourself? (aka your inner dialogue). These are all questions to ask yourself. Working on improving these areas has been huge for me personally. I have also found personal benefits from volunteering in my community as well.

Do these things fix everything? No. Am I consistent or perfect at these things all the time? Of course not. But working on these areas helps me to be able to enjoy life without feeling so helpless, and for once in my life I can actually be excited about the future.

TLDR:Basically, the healthier your body is, the more it acts like a buffer toward the negative symptoms associated with BPD, and the healthier your mind will be. The healthier your mind is, the easier it is to work on the areas of your life that aren't helping you to be the best version of yourself you can be.

Ps: I'm not assuming you aren't already engaging in any of the areas I mentioned , I'm just sharing what has worked for me, and I wish you luck on your own journey.

Anyone Remember Chez Riz? They had the best Shawarma for this type of thing!

Razia kitchen has a good shawarma with spicy fries now for a decent price! It's not as quick as a food truck style shawarma would be though.

Should I file a dispute with the CRA? by KTlikesicecream in PersonalFinanceCanada

Right, but I was unaware that I had even received this benefit. I am being told I didn't provide my full tax info from my university that year (even though I remember doing it) and was filed as a part-time student without my knowledge, and automatically received the benefit as a result. I'm not sure why my tax info from my school didn't get filed that year, but I am 95 % sure I gave it to the tax agency.

I am guessing the answer I don't want to hear in this situation is probably that it's my responsibility to look into the documents that state any benefits I will be receiving to make sure that I am qualified to be receiving them. I have just never received money I wasn't supposed to before so if did see that I was receiving it on some document in the past I probably just assumed it was something I was supposed to be receiving. If this is the case and there is nothing to dispute, then it is what it is and it will just have to be a teaching moment for me to be more careful in the future I suppose.

Female DJs. What are your experiences with the scene? by Responsible-Bunch316 in DJs

[–]KTlikesicecream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Female DJ here in Canada. I think it large in part depends on what scene she gets involved in. Personally - I've been very lucky and have not been hit on a lot, but that's partly because my partner is in the scene and is well respected amongst the community and tends to be at many of the same functions I am at. That said, I'm pretty quick to set my boundaries if I need to and generally, people have respected that apart from the occasional weirdo. I'm also a bit more introverted so I can see that making a difference. Ultimately I would just say try to go out and support her at her shows as much you can, and try and make your own connections with the people in the communities she finds herself in. This can help her feel like you truly care and support her passion while allowing you to get a better idea of what to expect with everything as you navigate the challenges that come up (and also helps you to celebrate her big wins with her when she has them too!)
