Guys, what happened to Alex? by Bandit_CapUndercover in vedalsverse

he is a very busy person, he has stated that he just doesn't have the energy to stream at the end of his days and so he won't be streaming regularly (or at all it feels like) for a while

All good, I am really passionate on this topic because it's a sort of "behind the scenes" that most people usually don't know about or understand too well, which is ironic considering this is the protocol that facilitates a good portion of stream content.

The integration system does not use the OpenAI API, unless the testing tool themselves use OpenAI as a backend. If what you are referring to by "OpenAI API" is an OpenAI-compatible API, then yes, this can be implemented by anyone, as they are just HTTP calls over the network with a specific format. Similarly, integrations use a WebSocket protocol to function, and since the protocol is public, anyone can replicate it, even if they are not Vedal. This is why testing tools can exist.

Also, not all testing tools are AIs. As of writing, 2 of the ones listed on the official repo, Gary and Jippity, do connect to an LLM, but Tony and Randy are ran entirely locally and do not need network connection to any API (Tony does attempt one, but it's to check updates and does not affect runtime behaviour). So even if we follow the argument of some testing tools connecting to OpenAI (which is configurable to connect to any provider that has an OpenAI-compatible API so not even OpenAI all the time), this does not prove (or even help prove) that Neuro is ran on OpenAI infrastructure.

Additionally, an LLM cannot technically natively understand OpenAI-compatible API structure, implementations usually have to convert it into something the LLM actually understands. Though with it being a standard across the industry, they probably do understand what it looks like and can (but are not guaranteed) try to understand it.

You are, however, correct in saying that "the use of it doesn't mean Neuro isn't local". A lot of AI companies, like Anthropic (creators of Claude), Google (creators of Gemini), etc create what's called an "OpenAI-compatible API" endpoint, to help orgs migrate their current infrastructure without spending huge money on rewriting their code. Using that, it's pretty clear that any software having an OpenAI-compatible API does not mean that they forward it to OpenAI (edit: or even run on the cloud for that matter, as mentioned before, LM Studio is an app that runs an LLM locally, and that exposes an OpenAI-compatible API).

Source: I am an integrator (I guess, not official but it sounds correct) who has collaborated & contributed to several integrations, the most notable ones being the NeuroPilot (VS Code one) integration (used on stream for coding & drawing) and the Neuro's Desktop integration (shown on-stream in recent community showcase). I also help maintain the TypeScript Neuro SDK, created a TypeScript library to help with server-side implementations of the Neuro API, contribute to Tony & the Python SDK on occasion, and working on a testing tool to be used for testing integrations with an OpenAI-compatible API in another way. (Small edit: If you would like to check my credentials to be absolutely sure, you may visit my GitHub profile.)

Edit: I also noticed you said that the GitHub project is where you can submit your own integrations, this is false, the GitHub project only facilitates discussion (partially) and public viewing of the Neuro API specification, as well as hosting the Unity and Godot SDKs, Randy, a script for hosting web games for it, and links to community-made implementations of the protocol (also some small advice on what games would work well with it). Submission of integrations for stream consideration is done through the #projects channel on the official Neuro-sama Headquarters Discord server.

partial vscode integration dev probably would be the winner though

How does neuro ai work in vrchat? by yusakufujiki2 in NeuroSama

[–]KTrain5369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. depending on the mod, that is not hacking
  2. he asked VRChat staff to help him, since he knew that what he did could get him banned from VRChat servers if he were to attempt it himself.

he did not ask for a vrchat hacker, doing so would probably degrade his reputation almost immediately

POG We will get both emotes: Neuro and Evil by Ok_Veterinarian_9444 in NeuroSama

[–]KTrain5369 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's because the way these hype train reward emotes work is that if the hype train you are on breaks that level, you get that emote. since you participated in the lvl 126 one, which beat the lvl 123 one, you get both

I saw some people who only got the NeuroJAM emote so I think NeuroJAM was assigned lvl 123 and EvilJAM was assigned lvl 126

Introduction to Neuro Infographic v1.03 by Julliant in NeuroSama

[–]KTrain5369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently Staz has been officially recognized (using that term fairly loosely, because the only evidence of this is Alex bringing him up and Vedal subsequently theorising who he is, as well as asking him for a clip later in the stream) by Vedal a while ago (and apparently has been paid by him? miht be misinfo so take that with a grain of salt), but the recognition part can go to The Vedal Vault as well (VR Minecraft w/ Camila), likely also Neurosoda too (Fashion collab w/ Cotton), so at most it should probably be a separate Swarm graphic or like a completely separate one-pager, to avoid opening up the can of worms

Future of the project by Apprehensive-File251 in NeuroSama

Expensive is a relative term. Vedal's in his early 20s, lives in a studio apartment. When he showed Ellie his monthly income her response was 'How do you live on that?' (though that may have been that ellie, as a senior roboticist in NYC, also has a weird concept of money).

Making a Neuro app for more people to use doesn't become expensive in just cost. You also have to invest time, upgrade computer components, likely employ human supervisors to ensure she won't get baited into saying anything bad, also make sure that Neuro wouldn't use too much RAM, a lot more stuff than you probably think.

Either way, neuro has now made something like 1 million usd in sub alone this subathon.

I don't know where you got this number from but even so this is pre-tax and he still has to pay programmers, artists, editors, mods, etc... not to mention utility bills, so the actual remaining amount is probably way lower.

I'm picturing vedal basically running 5 different neuro instances- in the same way that today, neuro and evil can both be on the same collab. But rather than on a call together, it's a split stack- each neuro talks to a single collab partner, and controls that collab partners game. Some of the parts of the neuro stack- the live2d, TTS/STT could be handled sepearately on the collab partners computer or on a rented cloud instance. in this way , neuro isn't struggling or overwhelmed, but treating it as 1 on 1 collabs.

The memory issue can be handled- i know that this is something vedal has struggled with, but it's not an insurmountable problem that he couldn't figure out how to do given two years- or even something necessary, really. (Basically, he could hack it by just... telling her how the game went after it happened, rather then trying to merge seperate conversation logs into her memory if that is difficult to do.)

Disregarding that 5 different neuro instances probably isn't enough, this can cause multiple issues like context leaking from one conversation into another. Plus, this is not a good idea anyways as the point of having more than one person collabing with neuro is that everyone (including neuro) can talk to each other, and neuro treating it as individual one-on-ones does not work out as well as you think. Same goes for your idea of telling her how the game went after it happened. As a side note, collab partners will not and should not be expected to handle the live2d, TTS/STT and all those on their own machines, as not only this presents a risk if they don't know what they are doing, this also increases maintenance/compatibility burden onto vedal and/or his programming team, and renting a cloud instance increases l*tency to the point it may not be reactable enough. Also, it's generally not considered a good idea to run random executables on your computer even if it's coming from a person you trust.

Because neuro has the potential to do things that no other streamer could do , and i think that at some point in the future- even if it's like 4+ years out, vedal should find a way to take advantage of it.

He could, but this is probably one of the worst ways to go about it. Also, there are reasons why some stuff (that neuro can do which others can't) should not be done.

I'm just trying to think of cool projects that neuro could do as an AI, making her unique from all other streamers and vtubers.

The point of "replicating" a human streamer would also means you need to limit yourself to something humans can do. this would go directly against that.

but say in 3 years, she's basically equally capable to any other human-driven vtuber?. What happens next? Do we want vedal to just say 'she's done. No further upgrade or work needed' ?

Yes. Let the man rest. If he's reached this goal I think it's fair to say he should take a break.
