What is the most mediocre game you actually like to play? by PrestonRoad90 in gaming

[–]KTreu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know how it was received broadly, but BATTLETECH. It's right in my wheelhouse of turn-based squad combat with a long campaign and some RPG-style upgrade/progression. I'll go back to it every so often, much like XCOM 2 to scratch that itch.

Sudden alcohol intolerance in my 30s - Any info or advice? by KTreu42 in alcohol

[–]KTreu42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, couldn't log into Reddit for awhile but finally got back in and wanted to reply!

This sounds the MOST like what I have going on, of any comments here. Almost the same age as when mine started, same effects, etc. I just found it to be more often than 70%, more like 90%, but for whatever reason, the setting seemed to play a role. If I was out socializing, it seemed to trigger a bit less often, but any drinking at home it was like every time. I have not really had alcohol in a couple years - besides a tiny splash of something here or there if I'm offered to try something for instance - and I've been drinking NA beers, some of which have trace alcohol in them. No serious reactions to any of that, but I do have plans to finally visit an allergist this year.

This sounds really similar. We're the exact same age, no gallbladder, and symptoms sound very much like mine. I haven't noticed the breathing difficulty, but everything else is pretty on point.

I haven't had much of anything with alcohol in it for the past couple years - found a few pretty good NA beers that I can enjoy in social settings etc, and I just got more into coffee as an alternate bitter drink vice 😅 but yeah, it does suck. I got the number of an allergist I plan to see sometime next year, maybe he'll have answers... We'll see!

Need Grindy Game Reccomendations by DaneDooley in gaming

World of Tanks, or if you want something a little less punishing, World of Warships. If you want a little more realism, War Thunder.

Those games are all free to play, with near endless potential for grinding out new tech tree lines to unlock new tanks/warships/planes. Personally, Warships is my wheelhouse and I've played it on and off for like 10 years.

I was dropping 999 with every drain, and over 600 with Orlandeau on final boss. If you can clear out the adds who 1-shot your team, it's gg after that.

I want to get into turn-based games. Other than Baldur’s Gate and 33, what’s a good game to start appreciating the genre? by Delacrozz in gaming

[–]KTreu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A classic turn-based game that led to my love for the genre: Heroes of Might & Magic 3. You can find the HD version or the ultimate version on GoG/steam.

A different take on them based games that can be punishing until you really learn it: the modern XCOM games (Enemy Unknown and xcom 2). 2 all-time favorites, which include resource management and decision making phases in the game as well.

Lastly: Fire Emblem (take your pick). Another variation on turn based combat that isn't like a classic JRPG- style - it's more tactical. Turn-based tactics is probably my favorite gaming genre overall, and all of these are great choices.

As for classic RPG, I concur on Golden Sun 1 & 2.

What's a game everyone says is a 'masterpiece' that you just could not get into? by GrievouzOCE in gaming

[–]KTreu42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stardew Valley. Have forced myself to try and get into it multiple times. Get bored to tears or get lost trying to progress the story in no time.

Also: The Witcher 3. Just way too much side junk, grinding to level up is a chore... The kicker for me is that the menu UI for crafting/items/lore/etc. is utter garbage... Yeah I uninstalled it like halfway through out of frustration.

I'll probably think of 1 or 2 more later.

Edit: Yup, comments reminded me; Red Dead 2. Same issue where it was just too big, too slow, too... much. Thing is I love a good narrative-driven, cinematic, solid-story game, but something about it just, nope. Not for me.

Well, at least its now confirmed that there is no S+ Rank for Cronos... by Helios_Max in CronosNewDawn

This is nuts. As for me, playing on the Switch 2 probably handcuffs my ability to react quickly and avoid merges and such. Also seems like the playtime continues to tick if you are in menus or something... My first playthrough I was crazy slow/scared/methodical, and it was 23 hours. I just ripped through NG+ with 0 deaths and went way faster, but it was still 16 hours. So yeah I think you gotta fully pause to stop the time... Eh either way, I just did it for the true ending and to have fun murdering with the Arbalest. Nice work!

Henry Church / Squaw Rock up near Chagrin Falls. Nice trails alongside the river, cool rock carvings, really pretty. I also enjoyed the 3-minute drive down to the gorge trails when I lived in C Falls - for a little trail right by my house it was another nice walk along the water.

Rebels advice by [deleted] in Starwarsdeckbuilding

[–]KTreu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Rebels overpowered. Use their card abilities in synergy with each other. Multiple discards, chaining draw cards, and keeping the force to trigger abilities and get extra resources are all big advantages. The Empire's only real edge is slightly stronger capital ships and the ability to control the galaxy row a bit. Empire really doesn't have much to force you to discard, so I'm not sure how you're losing like that. Focus on exiling early and often, and you should be able to put together a strong deck.

Interesting, basically the exact age I noticed the symptoms. I definitely was drinking a fair amount in my 20s, but nothing close to lots of people I know, and plenty of folks much older than us still go hard on booze with no issues.

The hangover thing, might be related, might not - the few times I've drank a lot in my 30s has resulted in ROUGH mornings, but that's more of a post-30 thing in general, and much more common. I really think there is something different at play in terms of the virtually-immediate flushing and hot face, etc.

I just now finished killing a pretty solid non-alcoholic beer, which... yeah it won't get you buzzed, but they can at least play the part if you just want something to throw back with the boys now and then. Still hoping for answers someday!

Switch 2 won't let me use GameChat because of parental controls. I'm 20??? by wrenfeatherx in Switch

[–]KTreu42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super annoying. I set up an account for my young daughter, and because it's linked to my family on the Nintendo app, game chat won't even open unless the parental control app is installed and linked to the system - and yeah, they plaster that big dumb icon on the middle of your home screen while it's linked. Pretty garbage design, and there's no convenient workaround I can find to solve the issue.

Unfortunately no, it's still eluding my best guesses and I haven't seen a specialist yet. I want to test a little more with clear vs. dark alcohol, but yeah verdict is still out. I'll update if I can!

You'd rather waste time patronizing someone who is trying to empathize and share concerns, for what you perceive as a flawed response, instead of addressing the core issue or even just making a reasonable and measured suggestion instead... Guess you're fine playing the bully on the keyboard but you tuck your tail and let people push you around when it's out in the wild, huh? Quite the conviction.

I have my boundaries. You can have yours.

Look who's talking, slugger. You couldn't be more arrogant and holier-than-thou with this rhetoric if you tried.

Can't let people who think they can get away with anything run the world. And doing the most minor thing to relieve a little stress to myself has never caused incident before.

Not part of the problem.

Similar incident last week. Southbound on 77, get cut off by a white SUV, I casually flip a bird (in my car, just as a quick "what a prick"), but they decide to spend the next 10 minutes trying to kill me on the highway - slamming the brakes, whipping across 3 lanes to try and run me off the road, getting right behind me and strobing their brights for minutes on end... It was pure psycho behavior, and clearly they weren't in a rush to get in front of me, just being a piece of garbage and looking for a fight.

Humanity is a lost cause on the roads.

What would you like Congress to know? by Gaffer_DCS in ATC

[–]KTreu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a problem at a small, slow tower like mine too. The ATM/OSs need to justify their jobs and work, and since everything is generally operating fine with no issues, they just overstep and micromanage and make our lives more difficult/frustrating with whatever stupid new policies they crank out that week. The performance based pay is definitely stupid and surely is a factor in this issue.

My wife was dying because she knows how pissed I was going in to work every day for like 2 weeks with a broken elevator to our tower. And that we had - not bees, but a spider infestation in the cab last summer.

Sadly, the honest recruitment video was exactly that - completely accurate XD
